25.01.2022 This is a great idea. Earn free cake by riding your bike!

24.01.2022 Some good news! Nice one Fonzie

24.01.2022 Tomorrow, Wednesday 26 August, is Park it for the Planet, a Bicycle Network initiative that encourages people to swap the car for the bike for their daily commu...te, a trip to the shops or to visit a mate According to the Bicycle Network, every kilometre you pedal saves 243.8 grams of CO2 emissions. So, why not leave the car at home tomorrow and jump on the bike for a fresh winter morning ride to work! Or, if you’re just not a fan of bike riding, then maybe try walking or taking the bus? Even small things such as taking the bus one day a week can go a long way to reducing our CO2 emissions. For more information about Park it for the Planet, visit https://www.bicyclenetwork.com.au/r/park-it-for-the-planet/

24.01.2022 A new track! Sounds fabulous

19.01.2022 Enjoy a walk on the foreshore this weekend then take the plunge! Water quality in the Derwent is excellent this week

18.01.2022 Please be aware that work is continuing along the Montagu Bay foreshore. Workers have now moved on to the longer section between the slipway and Hesket court. Pedestrians and cyclists will be required to use the footpath on the Eastern side of Rosny Esplanade.

16.01.2022 Water quality at Hobart's beaches is excellent this week. Combine a walk on the foreshore with an end of summer swim. www.derwentestuary.org.au/beach-watch

14.01.2022 With hot weather on the way can we remind parents that the metal slide at Simmons Park will get very hot with the sun beating down on it. Unfortunately, we are ...unable to have the new shade sail fitted over the slide in time for Christmas but we hope to have the sail up early in the new year. See more

13.01.2022 The world is opening up! Here's a great opportunity to learn mountain biking skills at the popular Meehan Range on Hobart's eastern shore

12.01.2022 We are halfway through the first stage of consultation for the City Heart project. There are lots of great ideas already, including a community garden, performi...ng arts centre, a focus on indigenous culture, outdoor activities such as disc golf, and a dedicated dog park. Share your ideas or vote or comment on ideas already submitted. This is your chance to help build our Clarence of the future! www.yoursay.ccc.tas.gov.au See more

11.01.2022 Two big bike events are hitting the mountain this weekend! The kunanyi Challenge will hit the road on Sunday morning, while the Tas Gravity Enduro Series ...takes on some of Tassie's best mountain bike tracks in the lower foothills of kunanyi/MtWellington. For safety reasons, Pinnacle Road will be closed to vehicles at the Wellington Park entrance near Bracken Lane from 10pm Saturday night, reopening at about 10.30am on Sunday. There will also be rolling closures of some of the mountain bike tracks, including the Drops, Stumpside and Pitfall tracks, on both Saturday and Sunday. Good luck to everyone involved! 07.01.2022 A new shared path down Rosny Hill Road provides a quicker connection than the Foreshore Trail for riders from Rose Bay, Lindisfarne and Geilston Bay wanting to ...cross the Tasman Highway to get to shopping centres and Rosny College. Starting near the corner of East Derwent and Tasman highways, an existing shared path takes you up past Rose Bay High School and the City View hotel, then over the Tasman Hwy to meet the new paths along Rosny Hill Rd. At the end of the new path you can choose to cut through the car park to get to Eastlands or go up over Rosny Hill Rd to Rosny College and the Foreshore Trail where a left-turn takes you to the Bellerive shops. Note that the poles currently on the path are going to be moved off the path. Congratulations Clarence City Council for making it easier to ride to get to school, shops and services.

06.01.2022 Over the past couple of weeks, we have continued to see increased activity on our tracks, trails and path networks. In response, we have now installed temporar...y signs across Clarence to remind all path users to keep to the left. Specifically, we ask that: - Pedestrians walk single file on narrow paths and leave ample room for other path users to overtake; - Bike riders slow down and provide plenty of warning when passing pedestrians by calling out or ringing their bell; - Dogs walkers need to keep their dogs on lead and at the edge of the path or on the grass alongside the path and out of harm’s way. For those wanting to avoid crowds, you may wish to consider alternate locations to walk such as beaches or along residential footpaths. Please be considerate and treat each other with respect so we can continue to enjoy these outdoor spaces when we need them most.

06.01.2022 It's going to be a hot one today so a little reminder that if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your dog too. Avoid walking your four-legged friend on hot ...surfaces to protect against blistering and pain. To test surfaces, place your bare hand on the pavement or sand if it’s too hot for you to be comfortable, then it’s too hot for your dog as well. And remember to keep your dog well hydrated on warmer days. For more info on dog management look here www.ccc.tas.gov.au/dogs See more

05.01.2022 The Tas Gravity Enduro Series hits the mountain this weekend and riders will be using many of the trails our Trackcare volunteers have built or worked on including Drops, Stumpside and Pitfall! Well done team!

05.01.2022 Time to recharge! One of the ideas mentioned in the feedback on the draft Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park Masterplan is for the use of e-bikes and access to rechar...ge stations in the park. There is still time to jump on the interactive map have a look and leave your comments! https://gcc.mysocialpinpoint.com.au/gmbp #haveyoursay #glenorchy

04.01.2022 A new track to explore - when the sun comes out! Thanks Clarence City Council https://www.greaterhobarttrails.com.au//clarence-coastal-/

02.01.2022 Hi all. Chris (our XC coordinator) has been involved with the advisory group for the Lower Foothills Network plan. There was a meeting Thursday night to look at... the final draft of the Mt Welli MTB plan. Chris says: While there are still a few hurdles to jump through, things appear to be looking very positive with a number of new tracks planned (and funding in place for some already). I can't share maps yet as it is still a draft, but some of the first planned trails include: - A green up and back from the top of Drops up to Shoobridge bend / NS track (hopefully separate climbing and descending). - Formalisation of the upper luge, along with a parallel climbing trail from bottom to top of upper luge. - A climb from Old Farm Rd up to Junction Cabin, and a descent from Junction Cabin down to near the top of Tip Top. - A long descent from NS trail (near New Town Falls) down to the bottom of Breakneck. There are several more trails, but the ones listed above are considered higher priority and should make for some awesome possible loops when you include Slides, Tip Top, Missing Link, Drops, North-South and others. HCC and GCC sound like they are communicating well, and runners and walkers have provided mostly positive feedback. Add to this the GCC plan for the MTB park, along with new trails appearing over in the Meehan and it really is an awesome time to be on the mountain bike in Hobart!

02.01.2022 Ready to explore, stretch your legs or horizons? Here are some suggestions for great local walks.

02.01.2022 We will be starting essential works from next week on the easiest route into the Old Hobartians Track from Lenah Valley Road. The work is to stabilise a serious...ly eroding and increasingly dangerous embankment and will take up to three months to complete. You will still be able to get to the track via a 1 km detour on the Main Fire Trail. It's a pretty steep climb, so it's a good opportunity to explore our other great walking tracks in the area. Visit the Greater Hobart Trails website to plan your next adventure! https://www.greaterhobarttrails.com.au/

02.01.2022 Not so much an advertisement for Hunter and the crew at Peaks but a repost of something positive.

01.01.2022 While the water quality results for beaches in Hobart are looking good this week it has been raining steadily. Current health advice is to avoid swimming in the... Derwent after heavy rain for a couple of days. But! Walking by the Derwent is still an option! Find a track near you www.greaterhobartrails.com.au See more

01.01.2022 Park upgrade! Looks fab City of Hobart

01.01.2022 Now that was a wet few days! Due to the recent heavy rain, please be advised that some of our tracks and trails have unfortunately been eroded as a result o...f the excess water. We ask that any walkers or bike riders that come across hazardous tracks please email our Track Planning Officer Mary McParland at [email protected] or Natural Resource Planning Officer Phil Watson at [email protected] so they can be listed for priority repairs. Stay safe and dry everyone!
