03.01.2022 STRONG RESULTS FOR DUBBO IN SUPER LEAGUE Dubbo's Western Stars indoor cricket representative teams stormed Newcastle with their cricketing ability on the weeken...d, with the boys from the bush showing the local players that they weren’t the only ones made of steel. Newcastle played host to teams from Dubbo, Coffs Harbour and the mid North Coast in Round three of the Super League Indoor Cricket Tournament on Saturday, July 13 and Sunday 14th July, with the monthly games ensuring an intense ‘meet and compete’ atmosphere between the regions. The Stars came away with wins in all four divisions, putting them in good stead for hosting round four of the competition at Dubbo Sports World next month. In Men’s Ones, Dubbo defeated Inverell, 110 to 97, with Steve Skinner scoring well with the bat and Danial French taking the most wickets. Skinner also earned himself the Player of the Match award. An unusual 104-all draw was the result of the game against Coffs Harbour, with Daniel Horrocks topping the wicket tally and Daniel Holland scoring the most runs. In Men’s Twos, Dubbo had a convincing win over Mid North Coast, scoring 169 to 64, with local teenager Wade Burrowes named as Player of the Match. Burrowes also topped the players’ results for Dubbo in the game against Coffs Harbour, in which Dubbo went down 175 to 141 in what was high scoring encounter, 320 runs in just32 overs of cricket. In their final match Dubbo thrashed Inverell recording a 193 to 41 win with Cameron Herd and Dan Holland playing well. Herd being named as Player of the Match. In Men’s Threes, Dubbo once again showed their dominance, defeating Mid North Coast by 215 to 67, a satisfying revenge after a shock loss to this mob in round 3. Dubbo’s Jackson Peacock was the Player of the Match thanks largely to a 35 run score from the bat. It was a close call against the banana capital of Coffs Harbour, with a 108 to 107 victory for the Dubbo boys. Steve McDowell was the Player of the Match, while Jackson Peacock also performed well. The Stars then had another narrow win over Inverell, eventually winning by a narrow 70 to 67 scoreline. Matt Knudsen was Player of the Match, with Adam Cuskelly also putting quite a few runs on the board. The Masters finally found some form, winning firstly against the Hunter lineup, 138 to 121, then following that up with a surprise win over their more fancied Coffs Harbour rivals 145 to 113. A loss in the final game against hotshots Inverell, 106 to 89, put a slight dampener on the tournament for the Masters, however the strong performances throughout by Kel Blackett and Craig Pettit where amongst highlights of a good weekend. The positive results from the weekend series of games now see's all of the Stars grades in amongst the top 3 spots with those positions expected to be either improved or consolidated when Dubbo Sports World plays host to their regional counterparts for the final round of the Super League series on August 3.
