20.01.2022 Werribee Park, November 2018 State Rose Festival, Thousands of people attended the festival, strolled through the Park, enjoyed picnics, enjoyed the roses, enjoyed the space.

17.01.2022 Great Latrobe Park recently posted about its concern around the contamination of ground and surface water in Gippsland from the coal ash dumps in Hazelwood mine. Our belief is there should be an inquiry into this contamination, and, a halt to filling the Hazelwood mine with water until this issue of contamination is addressed, preferably by removal. Further, that the Victorian Government institute an inquiry into Coal Ash Dumps in Victoria, as the NSW Government is doing.... Great Latrobe Park is pleased to see the positive outcome of action taken by the Community Group - FLoW (Friends of Latrobe Water).

12.01.2022 Great Latrobe Park presented at this Conference last week. Our Vision for re-purposing of Latrobe Valley Open Cut Mines was enthusiastically received and embraced. Good networking opportunities! Good to know we are not on our own when it comes to having a creative vision for post industrial sites. Read on.... 11.01.2022 Good to see an appreciation of Latrobe Valley landmark icons. As we are looking to transform LV from mining into Tourism, it is our landmarks, our special places that shape the look of our region, and bridges the past and the future. these valuable components determine future regional developments and should not be demolished. http://www.latrobevalleyexpress.com.au//moat-or-shrubbery/

07.01.2022 Thanks to Rob who sent us through this stunning example of a mine rehabilitation in Spain evidence that the theory of industrial tourism works and a nice reminder of the past if done well. http://turismoferrolterra.es//el-patrimonio-industrial-de/ http://www.experienciaindustrial.es/

06.01.2022 The Great Latrobe Park Project Team gives the "big tick" to the multi national mining company, Alcoa, for being a "guiding light" in how to engage with the community, the Anglesea community, where it has been operating in, for nearly 50 years. We are sharing this with you to demonstrate that it is possible to achieve a positive outcome for all by working together -Latrobe Valley mining companies, community and government. * (Quote... from Alcoa display at Community Consultation) The Eden Project Anglesea concept is consistent with Alcoa’s desire to leave a positive environmental, cultural and economic legacy for Anglesea and the greater Surf Coast community CONCEPT MASTER PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLES Support a diverse range of future uses and outcomes. Complement the future of the Anglesea Region. Value and complement the natural environment. Provide a safe and stable landform for future uses. Honour the various cultural and heritage values of the area.

05.01.2022 The Great Latrobe Park project team are looking at ideas and pictures of how we could design and plan what we hope becomes the Great Latrobe Park. We think Canberra’s Lake Burley Griffin is an excellent case study of a lake done right! Find out why we think Lake Burley Griffin is a good example to learn from, here http://glp.org.au/lake-burley-griffin-canberra-a-case-study

04.01.2022 We see the Great Latrobe Park as a great park with large forested areas; a unique opportunity to heal the shattered mining landscapes and to put in place something that will benefit all of Victoria. This is real Action on Climate change/remediation. We love this article (especially the last paragraph). http://www.abc.net.au//trees-make-rain-ease-droug/10236572

03.01.2022 The news is - Great Latrobe Park (GLP), thanks to the Team from ACNC (Australian Charities & Not-For-Profits Commission) has found a category for us, enabling GLP to achieve Not For Profit & Deductible Gift Recipient status. What does this mean? If you believe in supporting (financially) our efforts to transform the mines of the Latrobe Valley into the Great Latrobe Park, with lakes, forests, wetlands, recreation areas and, create jobs, GLP is now able to offer a Tax Deductible Receipt, on request, for donations over $2.00. Thank you all for your support to date. Truly appreciated.

02.01.2022 End of an Era Hazelwood Chimney Demolition The Hazelwood Power Station’s eight chimneys, a symbol of the Latrobe Valley’s important role in powering Victoria, and its economy, for fifty years, are gone. The Latrobe Valley is transforming.... The interests and welfare of our local communities, as well as the shape of our environment, should be of overriding importance. Narrow bureaucratic considerations and corporate economic priorities have taken precedence over the welfare of the Valley despite the ongoing but vacuous rhetoric of community involvement and consultation. This needs to stop. No longer can we automatically trust government and government agencies to act in our best interests. We need to hold the massive international consortia that now control our power generating industry accountable for what they have inflicted on us and our environment. If not, we as a community will continue to be sidelined as the various powers that are basically operated from overseas forge ahead with what they decide is appropriate. We need to ensure that our quality of life and our immediate environment are not further negatively impacted by what others deem to be expedient. There is too much at stake. An inquiry into Coal Ash Dump management in Victoria, is required before any filling of the Hazelwood/Morwell Coal Hole commences. NSW is currently undertaking such an inquiry. We need a clean-up not just a cover-up with precious water.
