24.01.2022 This month's Common Cause covers our great win against BHP at Goonyella Riverside. It means that the roles of Field Officer and Controller created to manage new... autonomous trucks will be for EA workers, not staff. This means more opportunities for skills and jobs for the current workforce as automated technology is rolled out. The Fair Work Commission found the new roles are still coal mining jobs in line with the Award and EA, despite the use of new technologies. Well done! https://commoncause.cfmeu.org.au//union-win-new-bhp-autom/ See more

23.01.2022 Hey hey hey... check it out Your very own WMWA Pilbara Alliance is featured in our latest CFMEU Mining & Energy Podcast... as well as more on BHP's in house labour hire "Operational Services" - no different to how #BHP functions in the West. You can catch a glimpse of a day in the life of yours truly Yola Bakker as your Alliance Organiser and Growth Campaigner (@ 7.08) where she was recorded for the day moving through the Pilbara. ... Thanks to Paraburdoo members for participating.

23.01.2022 WMWA life: When you don't read the fine print Who knew dust would become such a huge part of representing members!!! Did I sign up for this sh#t... not really. But when you take on new roles and new challenges you will always be met with surprises... some pleasantly, some not so Point is... YES it is important to know both your rights and obligations and that of the company to you.... Do you know what's in your contract? Do you know what the company can and can't change? Are you clear about your obligations under varying circumstances? Some testimony from individual members: "Thank you so much for being by my side during this investigation Yola... I was so nervous that I was going to make a mistake but having you gave me the confidence I needed" "Wow Andy thanks for escalating this matter even though I raised it before and no body listened" "I did not even know that was a process and I work for them! Thanks" Join us even if just for some much need individual support. Countless members will tell you how it made a world of difference to them! 21.01.2022 The inspiring tale of how a group of women and their union took on BHP - and won - is finally on Australian screens! The 'Women of Steel' documentary recounts how Robynne Murphy and the mostly migrant women of Wollongong fought for the right to work at the Port Kembla Steelworks. Their 14-year campaign changed the landscape for working women across the country. The AWU is proud to support the Women in Steel film, and we urge all our members who can to go out and see this pow...erful documentary. You can view the trailer, and book your ticket for special screenings in Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane and Hobart here: https://fan-force.com/films/women-of-steel/ If you would like to host your own screening of 'Women in Steel' in your local area, make an enquiry here: https://fan-force.com/create-screening/

A mid-action shot showing our support to coal miners over on the East Coast! (Thank you!) In saying that over in the west, #riotinto sites are rife with issues unlike the issues on #BHP sites we have been visiting. #PeopleMatter... If you haven't heard of us we are an Alliance between the CFMEU Mining & Energy and the AWU - Australian Workers' Union.
