24.01.2022 TO- Newcastle Foreshore NSW The final date for feedback about transformation of our western end on Honeysuckle is 18th Oct 2020. GLOW is writing to HCCDC now the consultation ideas are clear about certain buildings and the park. Our GLOW membership is aware of the many letters written to the Newcastle Herald’s editor, the voice of Newcastle University and input by our Newcastle MP. ... The idea is a call to save the School of Arts. To reinforce this city wide view, we can be reminded there is an historic & well established precinct, it includes -Wickham Superior Public School, the Wickham Infants School, the Figtree Park /Tree Of Knowledge or Yum Yum Tree , the WW1 Memorial in the Interchange and the School of Arts. GLOW asks that the integrity of this history be respected by all levels of government. Please take into account the commentary of the city. This area has pre -existing historic value and that it stands beside the working harbour of Newcastle NSW. Now The School of Arts must be preserved, it is integral to the area and Newcastle’s history Thank you again for the opportunity to reinforce this history of the city. Yours faithfully Great lifestyle of Wickham Inc.
22.01.2022 Desperately lonely, the young Henry Lawson haunted his local Wickham School of Arts building, off Hannell Street, where he devoured book after book ‘‘with the idea of learning before it was too late’’. Working up to six days a week, Lawson only 17, sought refuge in the School building’s library to try to find a better life away from the daily drudgery of monotonous work. Ross Edmonds, memorabilia collector ... ‘‘This would mean Lawson’s first literary effort might be a forgotten one in Newcastle in 1884 after reading a few Charles Dickens novels at the Wickham School of Arts, where a whole new world opened up to him. I’d dearly like to know what happened to this missing Lawson family letter and appeal for its return.’’ Now, 2020 Lawson’s beloved Wickham School of Arts building, opened in 1882, stands empty and forlorn at the far end of the Honeysuckle precinct, along with two other buildings beside Cottage Creek. The Honeysuckle Development Corporation own the site and property and The Hunter region committee of the National Trust, recognise the historical significance of this 19th-century community building.

10.01.2022 Don’t forget about the winemaker on Church Street. They make the red wine right here in Wickham and the white wine in the Hunter Vally. We are all so lucky to have this fantastic business on our doorstep! With all that’s been going on lately we encourage locals to get out and support locals.
08.01.2022 NSW Government ‘s Plan to improve Infrastructure Contribution Funds. Submissions are due the 12th June 020. Introduction: 1.0 The documents cover how to collect, funds, report with suggested guidelines relating to a Ministerial Practice Note. ... Glow considers there is probably not, enough procedure, for feed-back for including Regional councils with their community in this process. NSW Planning could consider Regional input within The Productivity review and the Ministers Practice Note. To reform appropriately with Productivity findings, and the Ministerial Practice Note, both should come together and be exhibited together. This would further ensure and improve terms of reference for productivity, growth and transparency and effective development, "value capture" for future growth and liveabilty. Newcastle had review by Percy Allen about 2007. Percy Allan Reported that Newcastle LGA infrastructure was degraded or beyond repair amounting to $114 million. Newcastle has catalyst areas e.g Wickham, Broad Meadow. Is there enough value capture in Development? These areas include the Transport corridor, Regional Stadium, John Hunter Hospital, schools. & Light Rail, is it considered? Newcastle could be future proofed with Special Infrastructure Contribution. SIC.
