24.01.2022 With Covid shutting so many events down, our sponsorship of our local Bowls Clubs has been a little restricted this year but is was our great pleasure last week to attend the Narangba Bowls Club President’s at Home Day and the Club’s birthday celebrations on behalf of Great Northern Garden of Remembrance and Alex Gow Funerals. This is something we have been doing for a very long time and it was great to catch up with Men’s president Rob Luck, Ladies President Joan Pringle and Foundation Member Mick Nearmy. Great day was had by all and a huge thanks to Narangba Bowls Club for allowing us to be part of the fun.

23.01.2022 It’s Twilight time at Great Northern Garden of Remembrance our Roses are blooming nicely and the smell on the evening air is just divine

15.01.2022 Great Northern Garden of Remembrance is home to a lot of native wildlife and you only have to sit for a few minutes to spot some beautiful birdlife that frequents our lovely gardens and waterways. Deception Bay is home to thousands of birds and dozens of different species. Nearby Pumicestone Passage alone hosts some 1500 shorebirds of 11 species, with nearly 20,000 migratory shorebirds of 24 different species visiting the area each year. This makes our Moreton Bay area unique...ly important to birdlife and the people who love to observe them. Just a few of the species that call Moreton Bay home include: * Red-Necked Skint * Eastern Curlew * Double-Branded Plover * Brush-stone Curlew * Australian Pied Oyster-catcher * Masked Lapwing * Grey-tailed tattler * Sooty oyster-catcher * Terek sandpiper * Red-necked Avocet What a treat it is for folks visiting the memorials of their loved ones to find just some of these at Great Northern. Feel free to pop in any time for a casual walk through the gardens and see what birdlife you might spot. Obviously, if you are interested in exploring memorial options for yourself or a loved one, just ask our staff, they are very helpful.

12.01.2022 A WONDERFUL ARTICLE BY DR ALAN WOLFELT ON ‘UNDERSTANDING THE VALUE OF PERMANENT MEMORIALISATION’ As cremation becomes more and more prevalent in today’s world, many families believe that by choosing cremation, they are opting for quick and efficient. But readers of my work also know that when it comes to funerals, faster, cheaper and easier are generally much less effective at helping grieving families embark on a healthy path to healing. In fact, slower and more complex is ...Continue reading

09.01.2022 There is a common misconception that you must inter or in-urn ashes in the grounds or walls of the crematorium where the cremation took place. This is not so. In reality, once the family has collected their loved one’s ashes, there are many options. You can create your own memorials, such as a special garden or a pond at home;... You can scatter them in a park, in the sea or at some other location of special significance; You can bury them at the grave of another loved one [requires cemetery approval]; or You can can transfer the ashes to a decorative urn and keep them somewhere special at home. For many people, this is a close reminder of how special that person was in our lives and a simpler opportunity to pay your respects regularly without leaving the house. There are many different ashes urns including: * Timber * Brass * Pewter * Ceramic Choosing the perfect urn for your loved one is always easier with the help of our experienced and caring staff. If you would like assistance, just give us a call on 3888 6622 and we can run through the options.

08.01.2022 After much soul-searching, we have decided we really need to cancel our Father's Day Memorial in September and our Open Day in October. The restrictions to public gatherings during COVID-19 simply make it too difficult. We have always had great community support for these events and whilst it is a real shame, we know we must put your safety first. Those with fathers memorialised at Great Northern are more than welcome to visit our gardens at any time to pay your respects and reflect.

06.01.2022 With the fire season almost upon us again, Great Northern Garden of Remembrance is very appreciative of the great work of all our local rural fire brigades, especially as we are situated next to the Freshwater Reserve national park. It was with great pleasure today that Manager Rita-Marie Lenton and Nikola Gow from Great Northern Garden of Remembrance were able to present a donation cheque of $2500.00 to the Rural Fire Service Caboolture Support Group. The group provides supp...ort to the Rural Fire stations at Pumicestone, Toorbul, Narangba; Rocksberg, Wamuran, Mt Mee and Delaneys Creek and they are aiming to raise $80,000.00 for a new Incident Support Vehicle. Currently, when a rural fire officer goes out with a team, they take a vehicle and at the end of their shift, they need to pack it up and bring it back to base. With an extra Incident Support Vehicle, they will be able to leave it at the incident area to continue supporting their firefighters. This is such a good cause to donate to and we are sure the group would appreciate any donation, no matter how small. As they say, From little things, big things grow so get behind us and support this wonderful cause. 05.01.2022 On the 11th day of the 11th month on the 11th hour We Will Remember Them

04.01.2022 Just a reminder to the many funeral directors and families who use the facility here at Great Northern. Under the guidelines of the 'Restrictions on Businesses,... Activities and Undertakings Directions' issued by the Chief Health Officer, we can only have a maximum of 100 mourners in attendance at any funeral service. We can accommodate these attendees and still maintain social distancing protocols, with some [50]in the chapel & the balance [50] in outside portico area. To assist those who cannot attend, Great Northern can live stream funeral services so everyone can watch safely from home or work. All funeral directors can request the live streaming link in advance, so they can pass onto the family.

04.01.2022 Given that Great Northern adjoins a national park we tend to get a lot of wildlife sharing our gardens, which is very calming for both staff & visitors. This week the little ducklings from our family of local Wood Ducks somehow got themselves stuck in a drain. Hearing all the commotion, the girls in our office quickly called the RSPCA and the Koala Rescue people for help.... While waiting for them to arrive, a lovely lady named Susan and her daughter Nikita, who were visiting a memorial in our gardens at the time, realised the ducklings were in distress. They instinctively jumped into rescue mode and managed to get the little ones out of the drain. We found out in the course of the operation that Susan herself is a Koala rescue person and we'd love to give her a big shout out for going above and beyond to get the little ones out of the drain. While the photo isn't the best, it was pretty obvious that the duck parents were very happy to get their littlies back. Koala Rescue Queensland Inc #KoalaRescueQueensland.

02.01.2022 Today is the official 'RU OK Day', a day on which people are encouraged to reach out and ask a struggling friend or relative if they are OK but in the funeral industry, every day is RU OK Day. When you deal in loss and grief, almost everyone we meet is suffering some kind of hurt relating to the loss of their loved one. Many put on a brave face and keep their grief inside whilst other pour their emotions out but in reality, they are all suffering. Many put on a brave face and keep their grief inside whilst others pour their emotions out but in reality, they are all suffering.t is far more thoughtful to ask how someone is coping regularly, than randomly. They will thank you immensely for asking.
