11.01.2022 'One of the gems that we should all get out and support once all of this craziness is over is Tasmania's West Coast Wilderness Railway. The @westcoastwildernes...srailway runs from Strahan to Queenstown on Tasmania's spectacularly rugged west coast using a rack and pinion system whereby a separately driven cog-wheel on the locomotive has teeth that grips into a toothed rail to help pull the train up or slow it down steep grades. Super cool to see how the guys keep these going! Whilst normal trains max out at about 1:40 gradients, the steepest on this line is 1:12! A real gem that deserves a shoutout and a ride once things get back to normal!' We want to send out a big thank you to @train_guru for his mention of our railway and post COVID-19 recommendations, he captured this great rainy day image during a previous journey on board. 06.01.2022 Due to the current COVID-19 situation unfolding around the world, and based on the latest advice, the West Coast Wilderness Railway will suspend operations from... Friday 20 March 2020 for an initial period of 30 days. Guests with existing bookings will be offered full refunds or the option to defer their journey with us until we reopen. We continue our focus on the wellbeing of the WCWR team and during this time they will be deployed undertaking essential maintenance work where suitable, and other staff will take annual leave. Casual staffing levels will be reduced in-line with standard low-season operations. Tracks Café in Queenstown will continue to operate during this period as long as it is considered safe to do so and operations will be reviewed in-line with the latest advice. While we recognise this suspension of WCWR services is a disappointment for our guests, the safety of our passengers and staff and is our number one priority. We continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will make further decisions on resumption of services as this suspension period progresses. We look forward to welcoming back guests to our high-quality visitor experience in due course. #wcwrtas Photography credit @phileasfiona

T...he event will raise funds for RAW to further support these communities by allowing more outreach support in regions that may not have easy access to services. Staying on Track is all about encouraging pairs to work together on the rail journey with sections ranging from 2.5km to 6km in length on varied terrain. Each team member will have a go on each section of track and will cover over 13km in distance with only pedal power. Jump on board to support mental health and wellbeing in rural communities as we encourage participants to get out of their comfort zone to support the cause. Like to register a team?
