25.01.2022 All dressed up for Christmas .

25.01.2022 Hi All Message from the road team at the Black Spur. Take care! To allow our workers to install line marking, signage, relocate and install traffic barriers, there will be traffic... management on the South Gippsland Highway. From Monday 8 June until Wednesday 30 September, the highway will be reduced to one lane of alternating traffic, controlled by traffic lights. Weather permitting, the traffic management will be in place on weekdays between 7am and 5.30pm. From Monday 24 August, motorists may expect short delays on the highway to allow trucks to transport dirt from one side to the other, as we start the earthworks to build retaining walls and create the foundations of the new road.

24.01.2022 Great Thanks are due to our wonderful volunteer Great Southern Rail Trail Committee of Management for clearing 30 trees this week after the big wind storms last weekend. Especial thanks to Danny who has been a key chain saw operator and spent hours cleaning up the major tree falls! All as a volunteer. Enjoy your local exercise close to home and remember to keep your social distance from other rail trail users.

20.01.2022 Lots of colourful fungi on the trail at the moment!

19.01.2022 Locally we love the story of Lennie Gwyther, often referred to as "Lennie the Legend", was an Australian figure of significance due to his 1932 solo horseback journey from Leongatha, Victoria to Sydney, New South Wales as a nine-year old boy. Read about his amazing journey! https://www.abc.net.au//lennie-gwyther-leongatha-s/9064790

18.01.2022 Just checked out where our new section of Rail Trail will be at Jeetho. Looking pretty good! Very exciting.

18.01.2022 Just out of Koonwarra you might just find a skier. Theres always surprises on the great Southern Rail Rail Trail.

17.01.2022 I just had to share this Virtual Opening of the first formal Rail Trail in New South Wales. Fabulous that Rail Trails are spreading everywhere . Not only can we visit them but they can come and visit us. Of course, only when the travel restrictions have been lifted. ps The Fernleigh Rail Trail is a good one too in Newcastle but it was built as a bikeway by a series of councils along the path. Tumbarumba is the first one built in NSW since their change in legislation last October allowing Rail Trails on disused railway lines.

17.01.2022 Water, water everywhere on the GSRT at the moment, especially between Meeniyan and Leongatha.

17.01.2022 Great Southern Ride

14.01.2022 A few members of the South Gippsland Walking and Adventure Group enjoying the trail this morning.

14.01.2022 TAKE CARE! Wet weather in the past couple of days has damaged a section of the Great Southern Rail Trail between Koonwarra and the Black Spur bridges. Damage occurred when the road construction vehicles travelled on it earlier last week week. This area is about 300 metres long stretching north from the Black Spur. It has been cleaned up so that water cant pool in these areas, but it is still soft in parts (in the wheel areas, not the whole width of the track). This area has ...orange bollards and flags to highlight to users. On Monday if conditions are OK CPB will repair and compact this section with a load of rock. Please all take care in this area until it can be fixed.

13.01.2022 Heres to the walkers, who contribute nothing to the economy! We know who we are.

12.01.2022 Our trail was beautiful this afternoon! Perfect place to explore when we can welcome you back!

12.01.2022 A sunny start to Stage 3 - Lets hope it lasts.

12.01.2022 Big shout out to all the lovely bike riders on the rail trail this weekend that gave notice and slowed down or stopped for us horse riders. Much appreciated. What a cracker of a weekend!

11.01.2022 A fantastic weekend on the trail coming up! Just a few things to remember: Please keep dogs on a lead. Call out before passing others to make sure they don't get a fright! ... 5Please slow to walking pace and call out to pass horses-they can get a fright if a bike comes up or passes too fast. Please take your rubbish with you. *Yield - oops

11.01.2022 Just a regular morning on the rail trail! And another great reason to keep dogs on leads as demonstrated by Chevy Rebecca Parker

11.01.2022 EXPLORING LOCAL TOWNS: Meeniyan As it is (yet another) gloomy day here, we decided to go wandering further afield and found ourselves in the quaint town of Meen...iyan, situated on the Great Southern Rail Trail. In better weather it would be great to cycle here, but alas it was raining so we took the easy option and drove. There is plenty to enjoy boutique stores, cafes and MAG Meeniyan Art Gallery are all set in a pretty main street. My tip: if you want to have lunch in Meeniyan during peak season be sure to book, especially with the current Covid restrictions. We really wanted to have lunch at the lovely Moo's at Meeniyan but couldn't get in and there were long queues at Pandesal Bakery. Oh well, there is always next time! #sarahknolltravelmanager #visitgippsland #visitvictoria

10.01.2022 There’s changed conditions on the Great Southern Rail Train near Koonwarra, starting this week. The trail has been diverted for approximately 100m so that we can start building the underpass for the South Gippsland Highway Upgrade. Please slow down and follow the directional signage as you travel through this area. More changes to the trail in this area will take place over the coming weeks as works continue. Well done to everyone on their friendly, courteous approach to the workers as they fix the Black Spur section of the road.

09.01.2022 Delays on the Great Southern Rail Trail Rail trail users may experience delays of up to 15 minutes while equipment is moved safely between sites along the rail trail between the Koonwarra Recreation Reserve and Minns Road. This will occur on weekdays only from Friday 20 March to Friday 1 May between 7am and 5.30pm. Traffic controllers will be on site to guide rail trail users through the area safely. This is part of works to realign the South Gippsland Highway between Koonwarra and Meeniyan. For more information go to https://roadprojects.vic.gov.au/pro/south-gippsland-highway
