20.01.2022 Bones, like muscles, become stronger with exercise. As bone mass peaks during the third decade of our lives, it's important that adul...ts incorporate regular exercise to prevent bone loss. Additionally, regular exercise aids with improving coordination and balance which will reduce the chance of falls and fractures as we age. With physical inactivity being one of the risk factors associated with developing osteoporosis, which affects an estimated 924,000 Australians, ensuring strong bones is a high health priority. Exercise not only helps with preventing osteoporosis but helps the management and reducing the risk of fractures for individuals living with osteoporosis. While all exercise is better than no exercise, there are certain types of exercise which are beneficial for promoting bone health. Weight-bearing and resistance exercises including walking, jogging, climbing stairs and strength exercises (weights or body weight) are some of the most beneficial types. While activities such as swimming and riding a bike are beneficial for overall health, they do not require your bones and muscles to work against gravity and not the optimal way to ensure you develop strong bones. 01.01.2022 ? EDIT: NOMINATIONS NOW CLOSED The North Queensland Sports Foundation is calling for nominations for your region's greatest ...Sport and Active Recreation Volunteer. The 2020 Struddys NQ Sportstar Awards celebrate the efforts of our regional volunteers particularly under these trying circumstances to support a return to sport and active recreation. The pandemic has impacted the majority of sports cancelling state, national and international competition. As a result the NQ Sportstar Awards is unable to be delivered in its full format in 2020. The traditional Service to Sport Award category however is evaluated over a longer period allowing the appropriate assessment to take place to select our best nominees. The 2020 NQ Sportstar Service to Sport Award will be slightly different this year. Ordinarily, the NQ Sportstar Awards includes only one Service to Sport category. This year we are offering three Senior Service to Sport Awards and one Junior Volunteer of the year Award. The Senior Service to Sport Awards will be segmented into sub categories being large, medium & small council member regions. The Junior Volunteer of the year will be selected across all council members. Winners will be announced on Friday 6th November 2020 at midday.
