20.01.2022 We visited Phnom Sampeou, 15km from Battambang to visit a temple and some limestone caves (where we viewed human remains from the Khmer Rouge genocidal campaign). The killing caves was an important and haunting reminder of Cambodia's gruesome recent history. This part of Cambodia's history is not taught in schools and yet, the adverse affect on people from all walks of life in the Cambodia of today is profound.

19.01.2022 Happy Days Cambodian Village School Inc were proudly supported once again by "Team Stella Maris" at this year's Pub2Pub fun run. The students & teachers of Stella Maris, combined with members of the Mike Pawley staff and family, won the 'Top Teams Challenge' and 'Schools Charity Challenge'. This is also a massive win for the children in Cambodia, with the prize money being generously donated to our charity to support the work that we continue to do in the rural village areas. Thank you for your amazing effort and your continued support. 17.01.2022 The first Cambodian "Yiyay"(grandmother) that I ever laid eyes on. I remember the moment in the park so clearly - it was 6am in Phnom Penh. I was suffering jet lag and my camera was ready. She was selling corn and wearing bright yellow pajamas - her best clothes....they were bright and sunny, adorned with teddy bears. She worked with my camera, her face ever playful. It was in that moment that I first fell in love with the Cambodian people. I wonder if she knew in that we wo...uld go on to help thousands of children through Happy Days Cambodian Village School Inc. A4 Prints on Canson Edition smooth cotton rag of my drawing will be available next week. All proceeds will go to our charity. http://www.happydayscambodianvillageschoolinc.org.au/

12.01.2022 It is better to give seeds and teach people to grow trees. All it took was a crochet lesson and the great benefits of you tube tutorials. We gave wool and a moment of time and the scholarship girls are now growing scarves like there is no tomorrow. Well done girls!

11.01.2022 Drawing Number 7 - Meas Yut - my Cambodian Grandmother. She sat quietly, waiting, not quite knowing what was expected of her. In a room full of mothers, she too was a mother. A mother to her grand daughter, Prem Nang. In her 74 years she had spent 54 of them being just that, a mother. Her waif like build, modestly covered in traditional clothing, with a face deeply etched by her struggles through life. I warmed to her at that moment and our story began. Her grand daughter w...Continue reading

08.01.2022 Last night we took 129 villagers to dinner and traditional Cambodian dance show. I spoke with a grandmother, who in sixty years of life, had never ever set foot in a restaurant. It was a celebration dinner for the year 9 students, one of their family members, all the teachers and our scholarship students. A very happy and exciting occasion. Thank you to Michael for personally sponsoring this huge event.

08.01.2022 We offer our condolences to the family and friends of Ming Sok. A beautiful 30 year old cambodian women, who opened her arms and heart and shared her home with our Australian volunteers over the last few years. May you rest in peace.

07.01.2022 Ear piercing village style. Have a close look at the ears of this 25 day old little cherub. String is used to keep the pierced hole from closing until the parents can afford some real earings! No doubt no antiseptic and no anaesthetic used here! Life in the village....

07.01.2022 We took our 15 scholarship girls on a road trip over the weekend to Battambang, only three hours from Siem Reap. Many Cambodians, during their life time, would never get beyond their village environs. A wonderful learning experience for them all.

05.01.2022 Five years ago, we started a charity to help the children of Cambodia. I made this video at the time, featuring a beautiful young lady by the name of Nok Thari. Just over three years ago we set up a scholarship house in Siem Reap and this beautiful young lady received a scholarship to study senior high school and English, living with 15 other girls. During that time both of her parents have passed away. On completion of her high school, we gave her a scholarship to study at u...niversity in Phnom Penh as a history teacher Her story is about resilience. Her story is about making the best of what you have and what you are given. Her story is full of sadness and wonder. I could never be more proud of this beautiful young woman and, of all the things we have done for the children of Cambodia , this is what makes it more than worthwhile. We have given her the opportunity, not to crawl but to run and jump in leaps and bounds. This is a letter that I received today from this beautiful young lady and I thought I would share it - its nice to see a good news story once in a while! Dear Suzanne and Mike, How are you all? Here we are in Phnom Penh having a nice life to stay for study. We're staying in quite a nice room. The weather is very nice today. Hoky,Van and I finished the semester1 at University and we passed the exam, but a lot of my friend they fell the exam. And I haven't yet gone home. Because I have English and computer extra class until 11 of April. I have something new to tell you I was a teacher, a Beginner teacher. I taught adult from 21 to 23. In my class that I taught have two student, because it's a new class. I have got salary 10$ for a month, if the class have more student i get more money too. I taught an hour for a day from Monday to Friday in the evening. Goodnight Love from THARY NOK. https://youtu.be/Yynv1Cuursk

04.01.2022 Please show your support for two wonderful selfless young people, in their quest to raise much needed funds for our High School Scholarship Program https://www.facebook.com/javed.badyari/posts/1597985480254176

03.01.2022 "Now I know my ABC" by the 6th graders at Popel school. The beginning of a long journey into the world of the English language.

02.01.2022 Under a tree, in 35 degree heat, this little girl sat alone..her family were planting rice. She sat alone with no toys, no water and no food. She sat alone, she was three. I gave her water and some sweet bananas and then I took her photo, as she sat alone. She was shy and unsure, curious, and she sat alone. She touched my heart. When I processed the image of her, I cried. I just completed this drawing, the first portrait I've done in 30 years, and I cried. She touched my hea...rt and from the depths of my heart I brought her to life, through my camera and now my pencil. I always thought that I would make money from my photos of Cambodia to help us raise the funds to run the charity. I think that what I feel has spread through my pencil. I hope that you love her as much as I do.... Maybe I will make some prints and then we can raise some much needed funds! I don't know if I could part with the original.... See more

01.01.2022 A heartfelt "Thank You" to all attendees at our Inaugural Charity Golf Day on the 6th of March. 01.01.2022 We often come across Asian delicacies during our travels in Cambodia. The majority of rural villagers can't afford to buy a kilo of pork so they turn to forms of protein that are more affordable or easily caught and freely available. More often than not we do a taste test but today we declined...

01.01.2022 Thank you to the Wakehurst Redbacks Cricket Club for donating their unused polo shirts. These new "team officials" we're proud as punch of their new "best" piece of clothing!
