25.01.2022 Check out the focus on Flynns face as he gazes lovingly at the liver treat! Flynns owners brought him to Bayswater because he had suddenly become very hungry (polyphagic), his coat had become thin and dull, and he was lethargic. A series of blood tests and ultrasound revealed Flynn has hyperadrenocorticism, or as its more commonly known; Cushings disease. This disease is due to excess cortisone secretion by the adrenal glands, which causes symptoms including weight gain..., ravenous appetite, drinking excessively, pot belly, liver enlargement and thinning/dull hair. It is treatable with medication that blocks the release of cortisone in the body. Flynns owners are very happy to have an answer for his problems, and have started his medication to reverse the signs. If your dog has any of the above symptoms, call the team at Bayswater to discuss investigation and how we can help your pet feel better. :) 8202 8573 See more

24.01.2022 A recent outbreak of Leptospirosis has occurred in Sydneys Inner West. This is a highly contagious infection acquired from contact with rats or contaminated water, and we strongly recommend vaccinating your dogs for Leptospirosis, especially if you live or visit areas where Leptospirosis has been detected, or your dog likes chasing rats. Heres everything you need to know to keep your pet safe: https://bit.ly/3aiXQVY

23.01.2022 They seem to always know when food is around, but what's the strangest thing your dog has managed to sniff out. We all know dogs have an incredible sense of smell; but it gets even more amazing. Our WebVets have shared with us that dogs can smell disease. The diseased or cancerous cells secrete different waste products to healthy cells, and the dogs’ nose can detect these tiny differences in smell. Amazing!

23.01.2022 Introducing the beautiful Lilah, a 6 year old bullmastiff with the best smile going around! Lilah had a small malignant cancer called a mast cell tumour removed from her rump. These tumours can grow and spread if not removed with wide surgical margins. You can see in the second picture the small red bump in the centre of her surgery clip; this is the tumour. Luckily for Lilah, her diligent owners felt the lump early and her surgery was successful. If you notice any lump or bump on your pet no matter how small, we strongly recommend a check up as soon as possible, as the sooner they are detected, the easier and more successful the treatments can be. Well done Lilah!

22.01.2022 Little Barrie the 13 week old Pomeranian puppy stole the hearts of Dr Kate and Annabelle when he visited for his puppy booster vaccination!! Weighing in at 700g, he was mostly fluff and fit in the palm of our hands! Barrie loves treats, so happily ate them while he had his injections. We look forward to seeing Barrie for his next visit with us. :)

21.01.2022 Ever wonder why your guinea pig is always gnawing on things? Guinea pigs teeth are continuously growing so they need to chew regularly to keep their teeth down to a healthy size. For more information, head to: https://bit.ly/2YWE1OY

21.01.2022 Pictured below is Dr Kate with two of her regular clients - Keira and Alfie! Keira and Alfie are Cavoodles and they make fantastic pets (well, family members if you ask us and their owners!). Keira has previously had an ACL repair and has mild arthritis in her hips and back also. There are many great arthritis treatments available for pets with arthritis including injections, nutritional omega oil supplements, tablets and more. As we continue in winter, arthritis often flares up during the colder months. Signs your pet may have arthritis include lameness, being stiff or slow when first getting up, over-grooming in cats, reluctance on walks or panting and crying. Please call our clinic on 8202 8573 if you want to chat about your pets needs. :)

If there are any changes to the regulations we will notify you as soon as we can. It has been a very busy few months for our clinic as we try to manage the circumstances and keep our staff, pets and clients safe. 18.01.2022 Brothers Cooper and Buster visited Greencross Bayswater for their dental treatments last month! The two gorgeous boys had scale and polishes under anaesthetic with extractions of a few rotted teeth. Cooper (tan) is 7 and Buster (black) is 14 years old. Both of them have recovered very well and ran out the door happily after their procedures! Here they are pictured about to go home. :) Dental care is even more important in senior pets, as left untreated, the bacteria associated with tartar in the mouth can enter the blood stream and affect other organs such as the heart and kidneys. Well done Buster and Cooper on being brave patients at Bayswater! We are currently offering FREE dental checks and $40 off procedures as part of dental month. Call 8202 8573 if you would like to discuss with our team.

17.01.2022 Remember our beloved clinic pets, MK and Ashley the stick insects? Hannah and the team are very proud to show off their beloved babies which have been hatching over the past few months! MK and Ash laid hundreds of eggs over their lives, and now we have dozens of hatchlings arriving at an alarming rate! Did you know? MK and Ashley were both female, so they created eggs via a process called parthenogenesis, with no male required. (Cool huh?!). This means, all the babies are exact clones of our original two stick insects. Stick insects make great pets for schools, children and adults! They eat gum leaves and are very easy to care for. If you are interested, contact Hannah at Greencross Bayswater. ;)

04.01.2022 Each year, thousands of unwanted cats and dogs end up in shelters and pounds, simply because people are not getting their pets desexed, amongst other reasons. Desexing has numerous health benefits for your pet and drastically reduces the number of unplanned puppies and kittens ending up in animal shelters. A number of our Queensland Greencross clinics are participating in Operation Wanted - an annual desexing initiative run in conjunction with RSPCA QLD where pet parents rece...ive a 20% discount off their usual desexing fee. To be eligible, please head operationwanted.com.au to find your nearest participating Greencross Vet and register online.

Rosie loved to be cuddled and was constantly trying to jump in our arms during her stay with us at Greencross Bayswater. :) When dogs and cats are young, its very important they have positive experiences at the vet clinic. We have lots of measures in place to make sure this happens, even when they are having a potentially painful operation! Some of these include: - pain re...lief and anti-anxiety medication prior to surgery - post-op pain relief injections as well as local anaesthetic numbing to ensure they wake up pain free - warm blankets and comfortable bedding - breakfast and a walk after surgery - calming Adaptil and Feliway pheromones in our separate cat and dog wards to reduce stress - and of course, lots of TLC and cuddles all day! <3 We are please to say Rosie left very happily after her spey, and is always excited for her vet visits.
