05.01.2022 Thank you to WA Lawn Addict Jason Cheong, for sharing this great experience. Hats off to you and your wife Jason! What an amazing transformation. Love it. Ou...r house was an ex-rental and the previous tenants did not do much/any upkeep on the inside or outside of the house. We started a full internal renovation in late 2014 and moved in March 2015, at the time the outdoor area was still a mess while we saved up enough money to give it a makeover. As you can see from the photos, it was a complete jungle out the back, and the front was not much better. The whole thing just had to be redone as the ground was completely uneven and weeds (not grass) had completely taken over - the weed cover was so tall and dense that we actually were afraid to walk through it (especially the back). On more than one occasion I would see the weeds rustle as something was moving through it! We engaged a few contractors to (a) remove some of the old trees that were dying and shedding branches/leaves everywhere, a norfolk pine that was dangerous due to its size, also a Japanese Pepper tree which is classified as an invasive/weed species (b) dig out several cubic metres of sand (nothing resembling actual healthy soil) (c) clear out the old paving everywhere and relay new pavers, plus clear out the old brick fence out the front. At this time I was actually keen on laying down artificial turf for the ease of maintenance and because we had spent so much money on the whole house I wasnt keen on the water bills for real turf. My wife ultimately convinced me otherwise and we got a contractor to lay down retic & turf - the whole outdoor renovation went from ~ August 2015 to January 2016 when the lawn was finally laid down. Im glad we chose lawn because not only does it look fantastic, it helps cool the air and it brings birds into our yard. (How good is this everyone?) I planted all the trees, shrubs & roses myself as well. The actual mowing & maintenance of the lawn, as well as maintaining the rest of the garden also helps with a sense of calm & mindfulness which really helps after hard day/week at my 9-5 office job. (There it is the everyone! Being in, working in, relaxing in our gardens contributes to well being. Lawns do/can assist with mental health!) Thank you Jason! A job exceptionally well done, you have a beautiful home and garden. You should be very proud! Well done you! @jasoncheong @walawnaddicts
