25.01.2022 Why do we love sharing our facilities with like-minded riders? To see the smiles. To see happy horses. An unscheduled but productive day hosting @dressage_coach on Sunday. #dressagelessons #highlandshorses #enjoytheride @ Berrima, New South Wales

24.01.2022 I was thinking to myself as I was feeding my horses this morning, if I could talk to every horse owner in the world, for just one minute, what would I tell the...m? What is the one piece of information that would make the biggest positive difference to their horse’s life? And this is what it would be NEVER ride your horse on an empty stomach. Or said another way, always feed your horse hay or let him graze pasture right before you ride. Because for us, as humans, to exercise on a full stomach is really uncomfortable right?! We feel sluggish. We get a stitch. And it is just downright uncomfortable. So why on earth would I say to make sure your horse has a full stomach before you ride? Well, the thing is, horses and humans are completely different in the way we eat and in the way our stomach works. We (humans) are meal feeders. We eat food in distinct meals. While we eat, our stomach switches on acid production. Then when we stop eating, acid production is switched off. So we can go for a really long time (like overnight) without eating and it’s not an issue. And yes, it's more comfortable, for us, to exercise on an empty stomach. Horses on the other hand are grazers, or trickle feeders. They are designed to eat almost constantly over a 24-hour period. And will take only very short (less than 2 to 3 hour) breaks between feeding if left to feed naturally. Because of this, their stomach NEVER switches off acid production. And this is why you must not ride on an empty stomach. For a guide on how much to feed before you ride, here's a table of suggested amounts of hay, depending on your horse’s situation. 17.01.2022 Many horse owners use a variety of complete feeds that contain vitamins and minerals and as a result could be exceeding safe levels of zinc, copper, iodine, selenium and other minerals that may be creating toxic effects.

15.01.2022 A question we get a lot is: What is the difference between EQ and VM? (Note the toxin binder is for Aus only)

09.01.2022 Did you know The small intestine is about 21 m long and is where the breakdown and absorption of protein, fats and non-structural carbohydrates occurs. It is on...ly called small due to the small diameter (it’s not very wide). It is also designed to have small amounts of food constantly passing through it. Does your horse have constant access to food?

05.01.2022 FEEDING YOUR HORSE AFTER EXERCISE When horses exercise they burn up stored energy supplies, damaging muscle tissue and losing water and electrolytes via sweat. ...Feeding after exercise is important to replenish these energy, water and electrolyte stores and provide protein for muscle repair. Failure to do so can result in reduced performance, muscle wastage and slow recovery times. What you feed, how you feed it and when it is fed all play a role in determining how effectively you replace what your horse uses during moderate to high intensity exercise and how quickly they will recover.
