17.01.2022 Our nursery children have been exploring diggers outside. We offered a variety of diggers in a container with added natural mulch. The children have been pushing the diggers around in the mulch and using their imagination to guide their play. We offered the mulch to allow the babies to increase their sensory capabilities and encourage care and respect for the environment. The diggers introduced them to cause and effect, watching the wheels turn as they push.

08.01.2022 This week in our Junior kindy room we have been exploring different coloured playdough. Using the colours red, blue and yellow we began mixing the colours together to create new colours. We discussed how we were able to create that colour using red and blue playdough gave us this purple colour. We also made orange, green and brown. While children are busy rolling, poking and squishing dough, they are building hand-eye coordination as they use their hands to shape the play dough. Children are able to shape play dough by pushing, pulling, squashing, squeezing, rolling, chopping and cutting. This builds fine motor development and strengthens their fingers and wrists whilst gaining colour recognition skills and knowledge.

07.01.2022 Starting school is one of the major transitions individuals make throughout their lives. While the transition to school can be a time of excitement, it can also be filled with restlessness and concern. Our school readiness program ensures that each child is prepared emotionally, socially, physically, and with self-care skills to make an easy and successful transition into school.

06.01.2022 Today in the nursery the children have explored outside their immediate environment and ventured over to the Toddler yard. We made our way to the sandpit where the children explored the sand and kitchen equipment. Using their physical development to manipulate the tools and increase their motor skill movements. Exploring the Toddler yard allowed our children to build relationships with other children of the service and build on their self-confidence and resilience in a new environment. Sand play is a vital developmental benefits such as strengthening their sensory capabilities, builds on social and language skills, promotes creativity and imagination and encourages physical development.

04.01.2022 As the children have settled in again after our Easter break and school holidays, some have been exploring the indoor and outdoor environments, where others are starting to investigate other areas. Some of the children have been eager to water the plants and look after the garden. This is an area we have started to explore and talk to the children about, with the children responding extremely well. We have been discussing how we can grow many things, which will lead to learning about where our food comes from, in the following weeks to come. Even loves to give his teachers a hand and water our plants.

02.01.2022 Our Tiny Tots room has started to explore Autumn, what it is, what it means and what colours represented this lovely season. We discussed how the leaves begin to change colour, from green to red, orange and yellow. While discussing this, the children were provided with autumn coloured paints and some natural resources to explore. Some children chose to investigate the resources provided, gaining an understanding of their shape and texture by feeling and looking at each of them before dipping them in the paint and using the items to tap, roll and drag the colours onto the paper. Other children opted to use their hands to further investigate the texture of the paint and finish their masterpieces.

01.01.2022 Our Junior kindy room has started to explore some fine motor tasks within our room. We have been particularly focused on our threading with beads and string. This is great for developing essential fine motor skills but can also be used to introduce a variety of other learnings such as colours, shapes, patterns and counting. Future experiences will be provided to increase and develop our skills such as weaving boards and frames, lacing and weaving needles, buttons, and beads, lacing cards, threading laces and stringing beads.
