25.01.2022 BREAKING: New report shows how #AirPollution from burning coal is killing 800 people in Australia each year It's also responsible for 850 cases of low birth weight in infants as well as 14,000 asthma attacks for young people ages 4-19. The pollution from coal-burning power stations is killing us. The tiny particles of chemicals including mercury, arsenic and lead, travel hundreds of kilometers through the air, getting stuck in our lungs and entering out bloodstreams. ... We need tough laws to protect us from these deadly pollutants. SHARE this video and join the fight for #CleanAirNow >> act.gp/theairwebreathe

24.01.2022 The Morrison Government is trying to allow the Clean Energy Finance Corporation and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency, which are currently only allowed to invest in clean energy sources, to fund polluting gas projects, as well as so-called carbon capture and storage. Under Scott Morrisons leadership, fossil fuel industry wish lists become Coalition policy and Australian families and communities pay the price in higher energy costs and devastating climate impacts.

24.01.2022 GREAT NEWS! Following in the wake of ALDI Australia and Telstra's 100% renewable electricity commitments, yesterday Coles announced that 90% of their power in Queensland will come from new wind and solar projects. Will you join the #REenergise week of action to send a message to supermarket giants Woolworths and Coles, and the other big telcos like Vodafone Australia and Optus to go all the way to 100%?

23.01.2022 The air pollution from coal-burning power stations kills 800 people in Australia every year. If you've ever wondered how far it can travel. it's probably further than you think.

23.01.2022 After the bushfires, the clean up and recovery has been bigger than just sweeping up the ash. People lost their homes. Their livelihoods. Their lives. We can’t continue to sweep away the impacts of climate change. We need polluters to pay for the mess they’re causing. 23.01.2022 Liddell, one of Australia’s oldest and dirtiest coal-burning power stations, is closing in 2023. And Federal Government want to replace it with another highly polluting fossil fuel, methane gas. Our new report found that replacing Liddell with renewables is the cheapest and lowest emissions option, not gas. Check out the report and demand no new gas projects replace Liddell >> http://act.gp/Liddell-Closure-Report

23.01.2022 The situation in the Pacific is perilous. As inhabitants of predominantly low-lying islands, the people of the Pacific have already seen rising sea levels and higher king tides flood coastal communities, eroding coastlines, raising water table salinity, and reducing crop yields and supplies of freshwater. Itinterunga (Rae) Bainteiti’s family has experienced the devastation of extreme king tides in Kiribati. Rae’s message for those responsible for fuelling climate change is t...hat they have a moral obligation to the impacted communities to work towards a safe environment and planet for everyone. One of the things that some of our elders always say is as long as you're breathing, just keep doing your part, and keep making that noise and also mobilise communities to build that resilience, using the local knowledge, traditional knowledge, and whatever resource that's there for building resilience of these communities, because the conversation on climate change is already mature enough to understand the cost of climate change and we haven’t seen anything tangible. #PacificVoices #PacificHope Learn more about Rae’s story by registering to attend our launch of Te Mana o te Moana: the State of the Climate in the Pacific 2020: https://sei.sydney.edu.au//te-mana-o-te-moana-pacific-rep/

20.01.2022 Teruabine (Anna) Nuariki is working on food and water projects in the outer islands of Kiribati. She has seen the impacts on communities of king tides that have led to flooding, devastation of home gardens, displacement, and salination of water sources. Recently, a flooding event happened at midnight, with waves crashing into homes in the dark. Communities in the outer islands are building resilience through traditional farming practices to provide for themselves. Anna is als...o working to strengthen the capacity of women and young people through training to encourage self-awareness, sharing skills and first-hand experiences. Her message for those responsible for this crisis is: Come and see our experiences. You need to put your feet in our shoes so you can experience how devastating and difficult it is for us facing the impacts. Stop polluting the air, stop carbon emissions. This will help future generations. Look at our children as if they’re your own children. I believe you want better for them. #PacificVoices #PacificHope Register to attend our launch of Te Mana o te Moana: the State of the Climate in the Pacific 2020: https://sei.sydney.edu.au//te-mana-o-te-moana-pacific-rep/

18.01.2022 Nothing Out of an almost 600-page report, not one single recommendation of the Bushfire Royal Commission heard the pleas from bushfire survivors to make the big polluters pay for their role in fuelling last summer’s bushfires. https://act.greenpeace.org.au/polluterspay Scott Morrison must decide who should foot the bill to clean up the mess after coal-fired disasters. Impacted communities and individuals, or the big polluters fuelling climate change.

As one of Australia’s biggest users of energy, this is a welcome shift away from polluting sources of the past and towards clean, modern renewable energy. This announcement will cut emissions by 257,000 tonnes of C02 and lead to about 110MW of new investment in wind and solar. 14.01.2022 As a young Pacific leader, Lagi Seru has seen how climate change disproportionately impacts young people. When disasters such as tropical cyclones have hit Fiji, it has reduced access to education and employment. Livelihoods are impacted, particularly for those who have farms or rely on agriculture, and there are concerns about food and water security. We work with young people to build resilience through training and workshops on various issues, human rights, oceans, disas...ter risk reduction, among others. We are educating and empowering young people to create the change and call for greater accountability from those responsible to increase climate ambition." #PacificVoices #PacificHope Learn more about Lagi’s story by registering to attend our launch of Te Mana o te Moana: the State of the Climate in the Pacific 2020: https://sei.sydney.edu.au//te-mana-o-te-moana-pacific-rep/

14.01.2022 In the last 8 years, Palau has had 2 super typhoons hit back to back in less than 12 months despite the fact that Palau sits outside the typhoon belt. This was something Tarita Holm had never experienced. Salt water inundation and high tides means that Palauans sometimes need to relocate people from low-lying communities. Palau has also experienced increasingly intense drought events and rising sea temperatures. Humanity’s future is in the hands of those responsible for t...he climate crisis and they must make wise choices, reconnect with the land they are living on, reconnect with people and focus on relationships." #PacificVoices #PacificHope Learn more about Tarita’s story by registering to attend our launch of Te Mana o te Moana: the State of the Climate in the Pacific 2020: https://sei.sydney.edu.au//te-mana-o-te-moana-pacific-rep/

12.01.2022 Some Pacific communities have already been forced to relocate due to rising sea levels. Frances Namoumou has worked with Vunidogoloa, the first community in Fiji to be relocated. Frances explains that relocation can seem like a good response for the safety of the community, but this overlooks important cultural and spiritual considerations. It's our Christian responsibility, as custodians of the land, as a person. I think being a neighbour, we need to look after each other....
