22.01.2022 I'll b back doing one of my favourite things this Saturday: talking about Passive House! Macedon Ranges Sustainable Living Festival. https://www.mrslf.org.au//2/3/2/spotlight-on-passive-house

22.01.2022 An excellent article from The New York Times about choices for walkable places to retire. It's time for a new way of designing our communities for intergenerat...ional living, and in my opinion the best place to begin this shift is within vibrant existing communities and neighborhoods, where the walkability and access to community gathering places such as the local coffee shop, and a good grocery store, are already in place. If you are in an age bracket where you are beginning to contemplate the place you want to live as you age, what are the characteristics of community and home that are most important to you? #notsobig www.notsobig.com

20.01.2022 I am excited to be preparing a presentation about Passive House in Australia. If you are interested, but cannot attend, the event will be live streamed. It will also be recorded for later viewing.

19.01.2022 Looking forward to participating in the Ballarat Careers Expo next week and meeting some inspiring young people.

19.01.2022 I've been a big fan of the Not-So-Big house idea. Here is a video about it from back in 2005.

19.01.2022 On 1 March, 1998, I started work on my first project under the practice name Green Point Design. In the twenty years (and 150 projects!) since, I have been honoured to work with a wonderful group of clients, contractors, sub-contractors, suppliers, consultants, and colleagues. "Thank you" to everyone who has helped make my career so enjoyable and fulfilling!

18.01.2022 Feel free to drop in to Green DrinksI on Thursday evening. I will be doing a short talk about Passive House in Australia.

17.01.2022 Passive House is often noted as being attainable by those willing to pay a steep cost premiums for the design and construction of a project. If proof is require...d that building a comfortable, highly efficient Passive House is possible, that goes beyond the minimum energy efficiency compliance and uses construction techniques not too dissimilar to those we are accustomed too, then look no further than the leafy suburbs of Melbourne. 16.01.2022 Some images of a new renovation project currently on the drawing board.

16.01.2022 Here's a look at some of the most common myths surrounding Passive House

15.01.2022 Here is a good overview about Passive House building.

14.01.2022 Seeing a project take shape after imagining it is one of the best parts of being an architect.

13.01.2022 Ive often described my approach to design as quiet architecture. The Slow Space blog has lots of inspiration and information. http://www.slowspace.org

12.01.2022 For anyone who thinks Passive House is only about houses....!

12.01.2022 Here is an interesting map showing locations of Passive House certified buildings throughout the world. Australia certainly has some catching up to do. https://database.passivehouse.com/buildings/map/

12.01.2022 Hand over! Huge thank you to @vr_builders and especially our site supervisor, Luke and his team for delivering our dream country home. The build quality and a...ttention to detail has exceeded all expectations. It’s been three years from initial design concept to today. We are grateful for every tradesperson who has come and brought their skills and craftsmanship to this project. We couldn’t be happier and can’t wait to fill our new home with a lifetime of memories. . . . 11.01.2022 Here is an interesting tool comparing a standard, code compliant 7-star home with a Passive House certified home. Sliders to the left represent 7-star. Sliders to the right represent Passive House standard. I expect (and hope) it will generate discussion and debate. http://passivehouseaustralia.org/the-performance-gap/

10.01.2022 Beware of greenwash! It's unfortunate that some are trying to profit from misleading home-buyers.

09.01.2022 As well as being super energy efficient, Passive House buildings are really comfortable to live in! TreeHugger

07.01.2022 Sometimes, a small tweak to a home can make a big difference. I just had a nice return visit to a project from 2017. Modest internal rooms rearrangements, a small add-on, and improved outdoor spaces helps this home take advantage of its beautiful location.

06.01.2022 Ballarat Regional Architects Network event at Mitchell Harris Wine Bar. Terrific group of local colleagues.

05.01.2022 Renovation project in central Victoria. The owners have spent years creating a beautiful garden and want to be able to enjoy it fully from in and around their home.

05.01.2022 This is a great video of an airtightness test on a new CLT residence in Victoria, as well as explaining what it takes to achieve the Passive House standard. Jo...hn Konstantakopoulos of @efficiencymatrix demonstrates the differences during an air door blower test. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIX02vehRfE

03.01.2022 Sue and I attended the Smart Building and Living Expo in Buninyong on Sunday. There were some very interesting displays, and we really enjoyed meeting lots of people who attended. The weather was beautiful. A happy and uplifting event all around!

02.01.2022 A project on the virtual drawing board. A family home on a blueberry farm in central Victoria.

01.01.2022 Walking back to my office from a site meeting this morning. Passed a project from a few years ago: alterations to a beautiful Victorian era home. Major ground level renovations, landscaping and outbuilding plus spacious and well lit rooms upstairs. The intent was to add the space but sensitively maintain the presence of the building from the street. Quiet architecture.
