12.01.2022 Our Australian Seasonal Bushfire Outlook: December 2020 February 2021 is out today, and shows that large parts of NSW west of the Great Dividing Range face ab...ove normal fire conditions, as well as grassland areas of the ACT and into north eastern Victoria. Grass and crop fires are the main concern in these locations for the summer months as the growth dries out in the warmer weather. WA has largely missed out on the rainfall in 2020 and conditions are very dry, with parts of the south and south west coasts expecting above normal fire conditions through summer. 08.01.2022 You know the alert levels of Advice, Watch and Act, and Emergency Warning. The way these are displayed on our website and Fires Near Me NSW smartphone app is c...hanging. Soon you’ll see these new icons. It’s part of the new Australian Warning System, to help you receive consistent information in emergencies no matter where you live, work or travel. While the icons may look different, what they mean doesn't change - you should check for information about what to do to protect you and your family. Keep an eye out for the new icons later this week. Check https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//gen/australian-warnings-system for info.

07.01.2022 Severe Weather Warning for DAMAGING WINDS - For people in parts of Hunter, Mid North Coast and Metropolitan Forecast Districts. Issued at 4:28 pm Wednes...day, 4 November 2020. STRONG AND GUSTY SOUTHERLY WINDS ALONG THE COAST. Weather Situation: A surge of strong southerly winds are forecast to build on Thursday as a low pressure system deepens off the NSW coastline. This low is forecast to quickly move into the Tasman Sea with conditions easing by Friday. DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are possible about parts of the coastline from late Thursday afternoon. Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds early Friday morning as the low pressure system moves further offshore. Locations which may be affected include Newcastle, Sydney, Forster, Seal Rocks, Bulahdelah, Nelson Bay, Wallsend, Toronto, Wyong, The Entrance and Woy Woy. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.

03.01.2022 Yesterday, MidCoast Council Mayor, David West handed over the new facilities at Bulahdelah to our Mitigation Crew. We now have three Mitigation Crews operationa...l across the Mid Coast District. Our Mitigation Crews perform a number of roles, such as helping to prepare areas for hazard reduction by volunteer brigades, meaning our community is safer from bush fires. They also help some of the most at-risk members of our community through the Assist Infirm, Disabled and Elderly Residents (AIDER) program. MidCoast Council, NSW Rural Fire Service
