23.01.2022 Support for people directly affected by the bushfires

23.01.2022 We are in for an interesting week ahead in relation to todays announcement of a shutdown by Tuesday. There remain many unanswered questions about what will b...e deemed an essential service and what will not. What we know is below and I know there will be a lot of what about questions for employment sectors, but the answers are not known, with more details to be released throughout the day tomorrow. This was compiled this arvo but will change with developments. There will also be a lot of what about questions in relation to segregation and safety. Note that the actions that are being taken are on the advice of health experts here in Victoria. Here is what we do know: Victoria will go into shutdown over the next 48 hours with only essential services remaining open. All schools will be shut from Tuesday. Businesses that we know can remain open are supermarkets, banks, pharmacies, petrol stations, freight and delivery services, butchers, bakeries and green grocers. What we know will shut down are all schools from Tuesday, hospitality businesses including bars and cafes. Retail stores expected to close, but can continue selling products online. I realise there are many businesses not covered in the above and I know no more than what has been released at present with further detail to be announced tomorrow by the Government. The Federal Government has announced a $189 billion economic support package. 20.01.2022 Just became aware that a person from Melbourne that has visited a number of venues in the region over the weekend has tested positive to Covid-19. Venues includ...e: Aldi in Lakes on Friday evening, Leon Palace Friday night, Marlo pub Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, snowy river bait and tackle on Sunday or Orbost foodworks from 1pm onwards Sunday (Foodworks advise that it was on Monday afternoon and just for a few minutes. ) Please self isolate and if you start displaying any symptoms get yourself tested. As a consequence, some of my patrons have been potentially exposed thus so have I and potentially other staff. So - out of an abundance of precaution, the pub will be shut for the next 5 days or so whilst our staff get tested and await results. The affected person didnt visit the Orbost pub, however, other patrons from the Marlo pub and the Chinese restaurant have subsequently visted the Orbost pub... so, its a tenuous link but, better safe than sorry. Anyone potentially exposed should SELF ISOLATE....until you get cleared results. You silly selfish so and so...

18.01.2022 As many will know, we had a very foolish person in the region on the weekend. A metropolitan person who was tested for COVID, then travelled to the Orbost regio...n after that test and was subsequently found to be positive. By law, people who have been tested must self-isolate until the test outcome is received and this did not occur. I have spoken to the Inspector of police this morning who has confirmed the case and that persons actions are currently under both police and DHHS investigation. While I know people are angry, it cannot be undone and it is important we deal with this rationally and sensibly. The person in question is known to have visited Aldi in Lakes on Friday evening, Leon Palace Chinese Restaurant in Orbost on Friday evening, Marlo Pub on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, Snowy River Bait and Tackle and Orbost Foodworks on Monday. These businesses are in no way responsible, have undertaken appropriate cleaning and there is no reason to avoid them in fact get in and support them when the time is right. However, if you frequented these businesses in this period or have been in close contact with someone that did and are showing symptoms, please get tested. If tested, stay isolated for the few days until to get your results. Hopefully, we will get out of this with without ramification but only a week or so will tell. If anyone has any further CONFIRMED information that will assist local residents, please add it in the comments section below. The police and DHHS investigations will take their course, so lets try and keep this to dutiful commentary.

06.01.2022 These three pictures provide a list of financial supports that may be helpful for those who have been fire impacted and I believe there will be some more announ...cements tomorrow. The one area (gap) where we need attention is to businesses that have not been directly impacted by fire, but have copped the economic hit from the regional evacuation. I am continuing to liaise with the Premiers office on this matter, stressing the importance of a cash injection to those hardest hit to keep them afloat. This list has been compiled my office to provide some assistance, but if there is anything an agency or person thinks should be added, please inbox me, noting this is basically only covering financial supports.
