24.01.2022 SLEEP So I woke up this morning on day 1 of our holiday and training break at 7.49!! To have a sleep in and not wake up to an alarm is heaven.... So I thought I would do a quick post as a reminder about the benefits of sleep to your overall health but also your fitness goals. Your body is hard at work while you are sleeping. Filing all the memories of the day, rejuvenating the body and repairing. So if you have done a hard training session it needs extra time to rest and repair. More sleep and also better quality sleep helps you to function at a higher level. It helps you be more alert and give more to your training sessions. So if you can't sleep in, go to bed earlier! I always start with what time I need to be awake and count 8 hours back from there and that's my must be in bed time. Try it this week and see how you feel each morning. It might surprise you how much better you feel. Looking forward to seeing all my awesome members when school goes back, therefore we go back to training and a full class timetable.

21.01.2022 Our schools athletics carnival was today! I love watching our kids compete, try their hardest and above all show such great sportsmanship. It doesn't matter whether you come first or last it's the effort you put in, the willingness to give it a go that makes you a winner!

21.01.2022 Who has a bad relationship with the scales? Both these photos while being 10 years apart I weigh the same weight. Yes, the same. The pic with the gorgeous Michelle Bridges is from 2010 when I went to Sydney to after my first 12 week body transformation after having my first child. During that challenge I lost 10.8kgs and was feeling fantastic.... I've had lots of ups and downs since then but overall I have been working hard on increasing my muscle mass as muscle is smaller than fat, it allows you to burn more energy at rest and gives your body a more toned look. If you have muscle, its highly likely that you will not fit into the little box called your BMI or body mass index as it is simply height and weight that is taken into account. According to my BMI I am currently still overweight. With this in mind I urge you to not let the scales rule how you feel about your body. Use the mirror, your clothing or anything that gives you a visual representation that you can compare.

18.01.2022 Benefits of weight training 1. It stops muscle wastage in its tracks. (and builds muscle) Did you know that after age 30, the average woman loses 1% of their muscle mass per year? For sedentary women it's more like 3 to 8% every year!! Reduced muscle mass leads to slower metabolism, therefore weight gain. It also increases the risk of osteoporosis and also leads to decreased strength and flexibility. Weight training can not only prevent this wastage but also re-build muscle ...mass after it has been lost. 2. Build and preserve bone density. Besides vitamin D and calcium, weight bearing activity is also extremely important for preserving bone density. Osteoporosis Australia recommends engaging in strength training activities that become more challenging over time. 3. Prevent Falls 'Having a fall’ might not be an issue you think you have to worry about too much for a few decades yet, but the groundwork for stability when you’re older needs to be laid early. Regular exercise, including muscle strengthening activities, is a proven way to prevent debilitating falls as you age. 4. Speeds up your metabolism. Increasing muscle mass also boosts your resting metabolism. This means you burn more calories through the day, even when you’re not physically active, which can help with achieving and maintaining a healthy weight and also means you can eat more! 5. Manage Diabetes or reduce the risk (Type2) When your metabolism is higher, due to increased muscle mass it helps your body keep blood glucose levels in check, while a lower fat-to-muscle ratio reduces the amount of insulin you need in your body. If all these benefits appeal to you but you are worried you are going to bulk up let me just tell you that no woman has ever inadvertently become "too muscley". It is something that requires targeted and dedicated training along with a super focused eating regimen. With all these benefits in mind I have ensured there is plenty of strength training classes on our timetable. Group PT and MetaPWR are great places to start with us and start gaining the benefits. Contact me and I'd love to give you a week of classes on me to give them a try.

17.01.2022 Happy Monday!! As most of you know by now, I love Mondays What's not to love when you love what you do, right? ... I love the freshness and new opportunities that a Monday brings. I'm also well rested and ready to take on a new week. I've prepped, I've planned and I've chilled out with my little family. How do you prepare yourself for the week ahead?

16.01.2022 GOALS I've been thinking about goals recently and why sometimes we don't achieve them and sometimes we do. I had an aha moment yesterday when I realised why.... You will never achieve a negative goal, something you are running away from rather than wording your goal as an achievement, something you are working towards. Because for example if your goal is to lose 10kg. It's the pain of feeling overweight and the negative thoughts you have about yourself that brings you to your decision. As you start to move away from that pain and lose a few kilos it starts to feel better, less painful and the motivation wanes. You reward yourself for your hard work or relax and we slide back on towards that pain again. That is yo-yo dietintnin a nutshell. But if your goal was something achievement related, something to work towards there is more chance of success. For example, you may want to make it through a Metafit class doing all the highest options. Or a weights session with the heaviest weights. There is strive for achievement in these goals. There's no pain, no negative feelings about self just drive to achieve, the weight loss or improvements in strength or fitness would be a natural by product of this goal. So try this next time you have a goal in mind and ask yourself whether your goal has you running away from something or working towards something.

This will be the first time in a very long time we have all had time off together as a family so we're making the most of it and heading away. Hopefully the weather is as nice as this photo It is also a great opportunity for all our members to take some time off to rest and refresh. ... Every 6 weeks or so in my own training program I take time off heavy lifting and spend time moving my body in different ways like walks and fun things with the kids. This is called active recovery. Exercise is a stressor on our body so too much is almost as bad as too little. Its all about balance and finding thay sweet spot that works for you. Our members will get a little preview of our online training program that is in the works during this time. Official closure date is from end of classes on Friday 25th September and we start back on Monday 12th October 2020.

01.01.2022 Who loves Yoga? Who hates it? Or feels indifferent to it? I know, I know... I know exactly what some of you are thinking ..."what a waste of a workout" or "it doesn't make me feel like I've worked hard like lifting weights or Metafit does." ... The reason I've included Yoga in our timetable is because your body NEEDS it. It compliments all our other classes perfectly. Our style of Yoga has a perfect balance of flow and stillness to feel challenging and also calming at the same time. Here is a list of some of the physical benefits of yoga: Increased flexibility. Increased muscle strength and tone. Improved respiration, energy and vitality Maintaining a balanced metabolism Weight reduction. Cardio and circulatory health Improved athletic performance. Protection from injury. We offer our dynamic flow style of Yoga on Tuesday mornings 9am and Wednesday evenings at 5.30pm and have mats available to use. Send me a PM or comment if you would like to try a class for free.
