20.01.2022 SENIOR DOGS AND GROOMING As we age our bodies and minds slowly degenerate and it's the same for our beautiful senior canine companions. Dogs in their final years struggle with aches from arthritis, poor eyesight, restricted hearing, lumps and bumps, sensativities towards the dryer and being handled in a controling manner. Unfortunately All of these factors make grooming a senior dog very difficult and time consuming for myself.... Some clients have called me up and requested " that final groom", thinking their pet will enjoy a relaxing day at the spa before they cross over the rainbow bridge. Unfortunately most dogs in their final years do not enjoy a professional groom!!. Whenever I see one of my older doggy clients I always let the dog decide when they have had enough. The last thing I want to do is cause pain, discomfort or distress upon an older dog. My advice for thoes with senior doggies who require regular grooming is to make it as easy as possible and concentrate on keeping your pet happy and relaxed. This means home grooming will need to be more regular for shorter periods of time, so a quick 5-10 minute brush every day (this is a lovely bonding time) if they need a wash do it in your tub or shower at home and towel dry near a heater where possible ( Older dogs are prone to seizures triggerd by the dryer!!!) If your senior dog is desperate for a comfort clip I would highly recommend washing and drying him/her the day before coming here So the clip is done quickly without unnessaraly causing extra distress. I Hope everyone understands and appreciates I have your pets best interest at heart After all They have shown us unconditional love for many years and deserve the very best in their final moments on this earth Thank you, Claire/Groom Girl
