If you need anything eg crickets, mealworms, frozen mice or rats, then please let me know by 2pm MONDAY 14th September via Messenger or email [email protected] (along with your email address and phone number so invoices can be issued). PLEASE NOTE: PAYMENT IS REQUIRED TO CONFIRM YOUR ORDER. Orders will not be placed without pay...ment. Pickup from the shop in Keith or can deliver to Bordertown Vet Clinic Thursday arvo. Also available from my supplier is a range of live fish (feeder fish, goldfish, coldwater and tropical fish), hermit crabs, and aquarium plants. Please enquire if youre after something in particular or want prices prior to ordering.

24.01.2022 Some interesting points to consider if your dog is ball crazy! Both from a behavioural and physical perspective, particularly those dogs with arthritis or a history of trauma. Cruciate ligament rupture is also a big risk with vigorous ball play. Some good alternatives include playing hide and seek with the ball instead of fetch, scatter feeding and treasure hunts, and taking tour dog on sniff walks in new locations.

24.01.2022 ORDERING FRESH AND FROZEN PET FOOD (eg snake, reptile, frog and turtle food) as well as live fish, hermit crabs etc. I am about to place my first order with PetWave, who will be my supplier of fresh and frozen pet food. I aim to have a small amount in stock, however due to the nature of these foods I will mostly be supplying these items via order. Their full range of what is available can be viewed at https://www.petwave.com.au/ - I am unsure of what the pricing of each item ...will be as of yet as I am in the process of working out a wholesale arrangement with them. If you would like to place an order, please comment below, send me a message, or email me with the following info BEFORE 2pm tomorrow Friday 14th August: * Your full name, email address, and contact phone number * What you would like to order and qty * If youd like to place a one-off order or a regular order - if regular, then please state the frequency (eg every 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 2 months, etc). PLEASE NOTE: Items will be invoiced and payment is required in full prior to/at collection. There are no refunds for these items nor any scope for change of mind once ordering. Collection will need to occur as soon as possible after the order has arrived (within 24 hours for any live items eg crickets).

17.01.2022 Adolescence is a difficult time for dogs and humans alike! This article sums it up nicely and is the exact reason why I run adolescent classes. https://www.sciencemag.org//dogs-get-difficult-when-they-r#

17.01.2022 Someones a bit desperate for attention... Im sitting on the floor in my office binding puppy school booklets and I feel this head poke under my arm... which turned into a weasel onto my lap. I agree Karma, I think its just about knock off time!

16.01.2022 And this is why its so important to communicate clearly with our pets

15.01.2022 Im always looking for DIY toys and enrichment items for pets. Not only is it an additional way to recycle, but it also means saving a few dollars here and there whilst giving your pet something new to explore and play with. Heres some great ways to turn old shirts into dog toys http://www.sewhistorically.com/5-different-diy-no-sew-t-sh/ Just remember to always supervise your dog with a new toy to ensure they are using it appropriately and dont ingest anything they shouldnt!

14.01.2022 Cuteness overload

13.01.2022 OPENING HOURS THIS WEEK: Thursday 10am-4pm Friday 12pm-4pm We snuck off to the Flinders for a quick family holiday. But were back tonight, ready to work again tomorrow!... As of next week, Ill have the shop open 4 days a week around consulting. Watch this space for a post about opening hours!

13.01.2022 I had the privilege of working with gorgeous 8mo Furphy whilst I was on KI this week. We introduced a clicker as the cue for recall (if you listen carefully, you can hear it just before her name is called). During the training session, it greatly enhanced her response and improved her recall. Ive used a whistle with similar success in other dogs too. I find some of these other noises that are reserved especially for recall and are distinctly different from environmental noi...ses can make a big difference to the quality of a dogs recall. Often, our voice can get lost/desensitized in all the other chit chat that we do. It is also easier for a noise such as this to travel further distances. If you wish to use a new noise or cue to assist with recall, then do the new cue followed by the old cue, then reward. Over time, your dog will start to respond to the new cue and eventually you wont need the old cue anymore.

06.01.2022 Meet Scarlett, an 8yo German Wire-haired Pointer (dont you just love those whiskers ?!). Scarlett came to me last year as her generalised anxiety wasnt well-controlled, despite being on anxiolytic medication. She was anxious when her owners were leaving for work, refused to go on walks, and was having regular nightmares. She would also become aggressive towards Jarvis, the other dog in the house. We have made several adjustments to Scarletts treatment plan, which included... tweaking her medication regime, changing some management strategies, and working on some relaxation behaviour modification exercises. Overall, Scarlett is responding well, but the biggest challenge at the moment is getting one of the medications into her (which we know makes a big difference to her behaviour and significantly reduces her nightmares)! Thankfully she has very dedicated owners who are determined not to give up! Scarlett is glad that the footy is on TV again as funnily enough, this is her favourite white noise. Background noise works wonders at helping Scarlett relax when she is having her "bad days" as it helps block out those scary environmental noises. Oh and did I mention that Scarlett hates the camera?! We were all surprised she allowed us to get this snap of her during consult recently!

06.01.2022 Im off to Millicent again next week and still have one appointment free for a behaviour consult on Friday 21st August (either in Millicent or en route back to Keith). If you are having issues with your dogs behaviour, and need some assistance, then please contact me on 8755 1732 to discuss how I can be of service. I also have some places left in the Adolescent Training Workshop that Im running - see below: ADOLESCENT TRAINING WORKSHOP Do you have a dog between 6 months ...and 2 years of age that youd like some help training? Then dont miss the upcoming Adolescent Training Workshop to be run at the Millicent Veterinary Clinic on Thursday the 20th August 1-3pm. Adolescence is a difficult time for many dogs as they are exploring the world without fully realising the consequences of their actions. It marks the time between puppyhood and social maturation into adulthood, which is often associated with exuberant behaviour and an apparent deterioration in learnt behaviours. Adolescence often involves a "fear period" lasting days to weeks where your dog is particularly sensitive (and possibly reactive) to experiences and changes. Millicent Veterinary Clinic is teaming up with Animal Behaviour Coachings Dr Emma Vermeeren to run the 2 hour Adolescent Behaviour Workshop. Throughout the workshop, you will learn: Dog behaviour, learning theory, and training methods Basic behaviours (including sit, look, on your mat, drop, loose lead walking) How to deal with undesirable behaviours (eg jumping up, mouthing/biting, digging) How to get your dog to focus and do what it is asked in the presence of other dogs and people Places are limited and we know this workshop will sell out fast so jump online and enrol ASAP so you dont miss out! Visit https://www.animalbehaviourcoaching.com.au/adolescent-behav for more info and bookings. See more

06.01.2022 With SA in a circuit-breaker lockdown for the next 5 days, we are not allowed to walk our pets. Check out this blog post a colleague and I wrote earlier in the year that contains many great things you can do to exercise your pet, both physically and mentally, whilst remaining at home. https://www.animalbehaviourcoaching.com.au//stay-at-home-e

02.01.2022 "You broke the dogs; we want our money back! Ok just kidding but when we turned the music on, they passed out. Actually, they just fell asleep during the first song. Thanks for the tip. I think we may sleep after all."... This is the email and video I received recently from clients attending the Puppy Foundation Course with their 2 gorgeous puppies who have been waking frequently throughout the night for the past 5 months. I recommended they play "Through A Dog's Ear" music, which can be downloaded from iTunes, streamed off Spotify, or played via YouTube, to help settle their dogs of an evening. Don't underestimate the power of music in helping your dogs switch off and relax. I often recommend the "Through A Dog's Ear" music compilation to help dogs settle and relax. This can be particularly useful for dogs that are sensitive to environmental noises, storms, or suffer separation anxiety. It is also useful to help dogs, such as these pictured, switch off for bed time. Just like people, many dogs find classical music soothing and it can become a cue to relax, or even evoke feelings of calm and relaxation in the subconscious when used regularly. So give it a try; I'd love to hear how your pets respond!

02.01.2022 A great summary on puppy play. It is for these many reasons that I encourage most puppy owners to find a suitable (or several) adult dog play mate. The right adult dog is much more likely to be respectful to those quiet or nervous puppies, and tell those boisterous and obnoxious puppies when enough is enough. It is also why I only allow limited (or no) off lead play during the Puppy Foundation Course. Play mates have to be chosen very carefully and whilst it can be a great e...xperience for all involved if it goes well, it also has the risk of creating lifelong issues, as addressed in this post. If you have any questions or concerns about puppy play or socialisation, please get in touch.

02.01.2022 PETTING CONSENT TEST This is such an important concept that a lot of people do not understand. Once youve learnt how to ask dogs if they actually want to be patted, based on their body language and response, everyones lives will be so much happier. One of my dogs, Karma, often wants to be close to me but frequently says no to being patted. Over the years, weve learnt how to communicate. I now offer my hand at chin height and if she wants a pat, shell approach and rest he...r chin into my hand. Its really helped the way we communicate and interact and now I can teach Thea the same thing. This video is a fantastic summary and something Id encourage you all to watch, in particular with kids too https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-hsOlJwMwps

02.01.2022 For all those still on the fence about online Behaviour consults, training sessions, and puppy training, this article outlines the many benefits. Ive offered online consults and training for many years, and have found it a great alternative to in-person consults for select cases. Sometimes, I actually prefer to conduct a session online as I can make a better assessment of what your pet is like in its home environment, where the Behaviour often matters the most. Your pet is ...also often most comfortable in its home environment, making it easier to focus on learning and making training more successful. https://apnews.com/559fc79a7c4b2dcd2115f3c812facf91 If youre still not sure if Online is right for you, please get in touch and I can answer any questions you may have.

01.01.2022 I think some of these activities are more important and relevant now with SA's strict lockdown than what it was when I first posted back in April. So I thought I'd share again to brighten your day and give you some ideas on how to keep your doggos (and kids) amused at home. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=569075617351912

01.01.2022 Weve got some exciting news to share... Animal Behaviour Coaching will soon be moving into a new shop at 7 Makin St in Keith (in between the butcher and bargain centre) We dont have a moving date yet as it depends how long it takes us to get the space painted and fitted out, but will likely be mid-August. We need your help decorating the walls. Wed really love to display photos of clients pets around the shop and consulting room. Now this can be any pet, even the weird a...nd the wonderful. So if youve got some great photos that youd love to see on our walls (and may even appear in other marketing), then please post below, send a PM, or email [email protected] Thanks

01.01.2022 KONGs arent just for dogs! Did you know theres a cat version too?! And check out this super cute echidna using the Extreme rubber version. I dont think Ive ever seen such amazing footage of an echidna. Look at how they curl their face in and oh boy, that balance! This echidna puts my yoga poses to shame

01.01.2022 Some interesting thoughts around walking your dog and some strengthening exercises we can do with our dogs at home, particularly if theyve had an injury (under vet guidance of course) or are getting older.

01.01.2022 Happy Friday! Weve got a bagel and a rug in our family! Except when sunbaking; then theyre the luge all the way!
