17.01.2022 Draft SEQ Koala Conservation Strategy 2019 - 2024 On Sunday 8 December 2019, the QLD Government released the Draft SEQ Koala Conservation Strategy 2019 to 2024, stating: Central to the Queensland Governments draft Strategy is its plan to introduce major amendments to the planning framework, based on new mapping of koala habitat and the identification of Koala Priority Areas (KPA) with strict clearing controls. The new KPA will represent habitat suitable for sustaining popula...tions of koalas and are made up of large, connected areas of high quality bushland. These areas will be the target for governments habitat protection, habitat restoration and threat mitigation actions as they have the highest likelihood of achieving conservation outcomes for koalas. The draft strategy will introduce new mapping and lead to legislation prohibiting clearing of Koala Habitat Areas in Koala Priority Areas. The draft strategy does indicate that a new code will be introduced for extractive industry in a Key Resource Area within the Koala Priority Area. However, the details of legislative changes, regulation, and codes have not been released yet. Consultation on the mapping closes on 22 December 2019 and consultation on the strategy closes on 31 January 2020. Please contact Tegan Smith or Jim Lawler on (07) 3871 0411 for more information about how the draft strategy could impact your development. 04.01.2022 Change can be good! We all know that dealing with change can be hard, whether it be an organisational, personal or broader cultural change. However, even though it is often hard or uncomfortable, change can result in long-term lasting benefits. By their very nature, quarries operate for many years, and during that time, many technological, societal and environmental changes occur.... It is prudent to periodically review conditions of approval and consider whether they continue to be reasonable and relevant given changes in technology, environmental values or operational procedures. If years have passed since last reviewing your conditions of approval, take the first step towards identifying opportunities for your site to change for the better with Groundwork Plus. Contact us by calling (07) 3871 0411 or emailing [email protected] for more information. #change #environmental #quarry #quarrying #groundworkplus #gwplus

04.01.2022 Groundwork Plus is proud to continue to work with CSR in the planned redevelopment of the Warner Quarry. We congratulate CSR on progressing into the public notification stage of the assessment process. CSR will create a new residential development standard in Warner, replacing the operating clay quarry with homes, parks, habitat, pathways, bikeways and roads. The quarry has been part of the community since the 1970s, and CSR has been a significant employer locally and has mai...ntained their social licence to operate with their neighbours. The quarry is to the south of Warner Lakes, at the corner of Kremzow and Old North Roads. The quarry is operating and will do so for the foreseeable future. It supplies clay to the CSR brickworks in Oxley and Darra. CSR is progressively rehabilitating the site, and a residential development is proposed to replace the quarry, which will be redeveloped with up to 460 dwellings, new trees, 7 hectares of preserved habitat, roads, paths and bikeways. A development application was lodged in 2018 with Moreton Bay Regional Council and has recently moved into the public notification period. MR ANDREW MACKENZIE, GENERAL MANAGER CSR PROPERTY, has stated that We intend to deliver a world-class, balanced and sustainable residential development outcome in Warner. CSR has been generating jobs and opportunities in this community for a long time - as a quarry operator and as a developer. We are experienced in local remediation, having rehabilitated and developed the Warner Lakes, Aldi and Bunnings sites, all of which were previously CSR quarries. More information can be found at: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/warnerquarry/ Warner Quarry website: https://www.warnerquarry.com.au/ View a copy of the development application visit Councils PD Online: http://pdonline.moretonbay.qld.gov.au//Appli/default.aspx
