Horticultural therapy is a process of using plants and gardening activities to promote health and wellbeing of people's mind, body and spirit and is used in social, vocational and therapy programmes, providing outdoor activity and physical exercise in a supportive atmosphere. Q. Why do I believe HT helps? A. HT provides a natural environment in which to receive treatment for issues including mental health disorders; for developing new... skills(e.g., self esteem); and releasing stress. Other benefits include awakening the senses, exercise, exposure to vitamin D, building independence, social interaction and FUN! Q. What activities does HT involve? A. While receiving therapy we will also be doing horticulture activities such as sowing seeds, planting cuttings, dividing plants and re-potted plants or any other jobs needed in a garden. See more

AAT is a goal-directed intervention directed and/or delivered by a health professional with specialised training, and within the scope of practice of his/her profession. Q. How can it help? A. AAT is designed to promote improvement in human psychological, emotional, social, cognitive and/or physical functioning. Q. What activities are involved with AAT? ... A. While receiving therapy, the programs offer activities such as spending time with, patting, brushing, washing, feeding, leading and lunging. At Growing Well Farm we do not hand feed the therapy animals and there are no programs to ride the equines. Q. Is it safe? A. The programs are offered by trained staff to ensure that participants’ visits to Growing Well Farm are safe for the animals, and the participants. We carry proof of the therapy animals’ regular health exams and vaccinations, and are diligent in practicing infection control and risk management. See more
