24.01.2022 Dr Rob Kelly is professional in everything he does. On any topic, Rob gives considered and insightful input, which is one of the qualities that makes him a great family GP. It also means we all love working with him. Robs local connection, commitment to family and community and his preparedness to see things through to a conclusion means it is no wonder that he is so popular as a family doctor. Dr Kelly consults regularly on a weekend, and is consulting this Saturday.

10.01.2022 Welcome Dr Margaret Davison to Growlife Medical Highgate Hill. With a wealth of knowledge from decades of experience as a GP, Dr Davison is capable of dealing with the most complex of problems. She has had a few years hiatus in general practice, focussing on developing deep skills in mental health, where she has worked alongside the psychiatry team at New Farm Clinic. There, she was responsible for looking at the holistic health needs of people with significant mental health ...conditions, including depression, bipolar and eating disorders. These insights, her long term experience as a GP, and her own experiences bringing up a family mean she is well placed to care for families in the Highgate Hill and West End area. She current interest area is adolescent mental health, and she is rapidly becoming a leader in this area. Dr Davison previously worked as a GP in the Jindalee area, and no doubt many of her previous patients will be pleased to hear of her return and will seek her out. Welcome Margaret! See more

03.01.2022 COVID Alert As you will be aware, COVID-19 has now reached South Brisbane. Three individuals with COVID have been moving about our community for the last 8 days in Springfield, Acacia Ridge and Southbank. This may well be the early stages of an event similar to what we are seeing in Melbourne. What we do now as a community, and your actions as an individual, will determine the course we follow. We can prevent this virus from taking hold in our community by: Social Dista...ncing Staying at home if unwell Getting tested if you have any symptoms, no matter how mild: Symptoms requiring self isolation and testing: fever or history of fever sore throat runny nose, cough, shortness of breath sudden fatigue, muscle or joint pain loss of smell, loss of taste Anyone visiting the following locations at the applicable times should self-quarantine and contact 13-Health: https://www.health.qld.gov.au//public-health-alert-three-n If you are concerned about symptoms or think you need testing, please book a Telehealth appointment. Testing can be arranged via Telehealth, and often this can be done without the need to attend clinic. Telehealth is very effective for determining how serious your condition is, and whether you need to be seen in person. If you do have symptoms that need to be seen in person, your doctor will make arrangements to do this safely. Medicare Changes The government has recently made changes to the availability of Medicare rebates for Telehealth. Medicare rebates for Telehealth are available to: Anyone who has seen us face to face in the last 12 months Any child under 12 months Anyone subject to public health restrictions to their movement (eg. Hotel Quarantine or required to self isolate due to symptoms) Anyone who is homeless Anyone outside these groups can still access Telehealth at our normal private billing rates. At present we understand that anyone with symptoms requiring COVID testing is covered under the above Medicare eligibility criteria, but this is subject to change as we are seeking further clarification. If you have any friends or relatives who may intend to visit us during the coming period, but have not been seen face to face in the last 12 months, please suggest to them to book a face to face appointment in the near future so that they are eligible for a Telehealth rebate should restrictions increase. Our team remain prepared to stop the spread. We are totally committed to keeping our community safe, and doing whatever it takes to provide you healthcare should our hospitals become overwhelmed. Please do whatever you can to help slow this virus - keep your distance from others, wash your hands, get tested if any symptoms and stay home when unwell. Lets all work hard together now to stamp out COVID in Queensland again. Best wishes, Growlife Medical

02.01.2022 Tongue Tie Myths: an industry has sprung up offering to solve a range of problems by treating tongue tie. The take home message? Dont let marketing of tongue tie treatment get in the way of proper medical assessment and care for your baby. We are seeing increasing numbers of parents who have been told their baby has a problem requiring painful laser or surgery, when this is often not necessary. Fortunately, several medical bodies have now collaborated, and confirmed what mos...t doctors already knew: many children have undergone unnecessary laser procedures. Occasionally, true tongue tie is present, and can be quickly and painlessly treated. As a GP and qualified lactation consultant, Dr Sonja Morgan answers your questions in a new blog. She is skilled in assessment of feeding difficulties and can treat a tongue tie if needed. Mostly, what is needed is careful assessment and assistance with other issues. At Growlife Medical, we are leading a change of how General Practice healthcare is delivered, and have a created a tiered approach to breastfeeding help starting with free drop in clinics and parents groups for all, to individualised treatment by in clinic midwives, GPs, and home visiting lactation consultants.
