25.01.2022 This radish has hit the hard pan at about 20cm and then found a way through. Similar finding with Pattersons curse, its roots bust through a concrete like sub surface layer. Makes one think, I hope!!
25.01.2022 Earthworms are like Uni students. Give them free food, drink and a safe place to stay and you will probably never get rid of them. Today I was chipping out thistle that has come up after an arm worm infestation and under each plant were heaps of big fat worms, 10cm each side yielded nought. Hence my metaphor above. Have a dig under your "weeds" and see just how important a safe 'bed', free food and water really are.
25.01.2022 An old milk vat and a fire fighting tank makes a great DIY fertigator, especially when you are dealing with steep terrain. Urea, calcium, humates and Rural boss biological stimulants into the mix.
25.01.2022 Kikuyu can be difficult to manage and get high production off. This is mostly due to not understanding its growth habits and subsequent poor management. Grown vertically as in the attached pics is the key to great high yielding kikuyu pastures. 30 days from mulching and at least 3800kg/Dm/ha.
24.01.2022 Below is a great short article taken from the microBIOMETER page. I use this tool on all the farms I work on to get an indication of soil microbial life. They are accurate and reveal an very interesting "look" below the surface. How Do Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) Promote Plant Growth? AMF penetrate the root and establish little areas in plant root cells where they can exchange nutrients with the plant. AMF improves the nutrients available to the plant by collecting so...il minerals such as phosphorous, nitrogen, magnesium and manganese through an extensive network of fine fibers (hyphae) that increase the absorptive area of the root up to a hundred-fold. In return the plant feeds the fungi carbohydrates and lipids. AMF secrete hormone like substances that stimulate plant growth and AMF encourages the establishment of nitrogen fixing bacteria. The AMF boost to plant growth comes not only from the nutrients it supplies. AMF also improves the immune response of plants making them resistant to harmful nematodes and insects as well as fungal and bacterial pathogens. AMF shows great promise in compensating for yield losses when chemical fertilizers are eliminated or greatly reduced. AMF can reduce the need for pesticides and phosphate and nitrogen fertilizers cutting back on input costs all while building healthier soil. In light of the known importance AMF plays in your plant's health, microBIOMETER now provides the fungal to bacterial ratio of your soil. This information will further assist you on your road to healthy soil while helping you lower your costs. Leifheit, E. F., Veresoglou, S. D., Lehmann, A., Morris, E. K., & Rillig, M. C. (2014). Multiple factors influence the role of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in soil aggregationa meta-analysis. Plant and Soil, 374(1-2), 523-537. See more

23.01.2022 SUCCESSION PLANNING and the SUCCESS of multi generational farms go hand in hand. Seldom if ever do I see a health ecosystem with unhealth relationships in families. Just as ecosystems need to be collaborative so do those working in them. Over the past 25 years I have worked as an employee in our family owned farming business, I have been a share owner in the business and ultimately owned my own family run farming business. Through these experiences I have gained valuable ins...ights into what is needed to make multi generational businesses successful, harmonious and fun to work in. This experience I have used over the past 10 years to help other farming Families deal with and get through their own succession planning issues. Its a journey and not a one off event, start the conversation early and be honest. I have worked with over 200 hundred families both here in Australia and South Africa. No two families are ever the same yet the principles are universal. If you do not know how or where to start the conversation get in touch, details on my website.
23.01.2022 Found this big guy in my pastures at Conondale 6kg. We might have to have a radish competition!
23.01.2022 "It's hard to believe or understand that which one can not see." For this reason I have invested in a top quality micro scope and digital scope camera so that together with the farmers I mentor we can do on farm learning of the soil biology that everyone talks about. Curiosity and discovery are powerful learning tools. Can't wait to look at your bugs.
22.01.2022 Great to be involved with Boyne river pecans

19.01.2022 7 News Interview about regenerative farming on the Sunshine Coast
19.01.2022 Recently I have been helping farmers and graziers try and understand what truly makes a diverse and balance ecosystem. The short answer is , Its complicated when viewed through the lens of modern industrial agriculture!!. We have, through the reductionist methods of solving problems, been taught that everything is in "competition" with everything else, so kill the competition!! The truth is that in the natural world everything is actually collaborating together to make the wh...ole system work. When we mechanically till or spray lands fallow, nature sends other plants, called weeds to to cover her nakedness.. and for the rest of our lives we then have to Kill these weeds as they interfere with our systems. This is the above ground expression of an underground catastrophe!! In recent times nature is pushing back and we have "weeds" resistant to our chemicals, have we ever stopped to wonder why? I believe the same is true for the people of this world, when we are in competition with each other, death and destruction normally follows. When we collaborate and work together in groups, sharing information and resources new and endless possibilities arise. The same in agriculture and the philosophy Growmoor follows. The photo attached is a reminder to me of what a more naturally diverse system can look like..
19.01.2022 One of the pastures Growmoor is helping create. Probably the best clover you will find. Well done. Multi species and foliar nutrition.
18.01.2022 Good fertility and water management can produce excellent (LGR) leaf growth rates as shown here with this oats well over 1cm wide all the way to the tip.
16.01.2022 We are working in the pastures with Maleny Dairy suppliers to make their milk even better quality and more nutrient dense. Making farms more profitable and regenerative each day. Keeping farmers on the land loving what they do each day.
15.01.2022 Multi species Dairy pasture Maleny. Milk is up, costs are down. At this rate the pasture will grow close to 15t/ha for the year and this is the first year planted to a multi species.. Monthly foliar applications cost less that what single monthly Urea costs would be.. Foliar applications contained an array of macro and micro nutrients designed to promote growth and feed and support soil biology. This included RURAL BOSS a bio Organic fertilizer/soil stumulant that amplifies nutrients and promotes soil life. #GrowMoorBiological #RegenerativeFarming #MultispeciesPasture #BiologicalFarming #GrowMoor
14.01.2022 Fertigator in action.
14.01.2022 54yr sevice to the lift arm gear. New bearings and bushes. Rotator cuff ground and polished and bicep tendon nipped off the back of the shoulder and stapled to the top of the humurus. Not too humurus this morning though.
13.01.2022 Anyone looking for a foliar rig or roller. These are on Facebook mot place.
13.01.2022 As spring fast approaches certain of the multi species plants will be fading from your pastures. Radish and turnip planted in Autumn will be flowering and going to seed. Chicory and plantain will start to elongate and show through. The money maker right now is your rye grass. Grazing management for the next 90 days will determine your years profit. Match carrying capacity to stocking rate, as the days get longer and warmer rye will grow faster and produce more feed. If you do not keep up quality will drop and node elongation increases. LER will help you determine grazing rounds.
12.01.2022 Yesterday Stan Parsons passed onto greener pastures. Stan was one of the founders of what is now fondly called regenerative farming. I'm sure he would have rather referred to it as"do what bloody right farming". I had the privilege of knowing Stan who lived down the road from my farm in South Africa in the latter part of his life. He had a profound influence on my thinking and in a small way Growmoor continues to pay his passion forward. Hamba kahle Mkhulu.
12.01.2022 Doing some simple infiltration testing can give you a good indication of what's below the surface. Here we are using a single ring with 1 and 2 inch tests. The first inch infiltrated in under a minute, the second in another minute and the 3rd took 3min. 3 inches in 5 min is a great result to know just before the wet season. The bare area 3 times slower than amongst the grass, tells you something!!
10.01.2022 Some tv news coverage of the multi species and biological pasture work we are doing on the Sunshine Coast
09.01.2022 Another well planned summer planting I had the privilege of helping with . This will ultimately become a permanent Rhodes and legume pasture, producing high quality feed for grazing or hay. Well done !!
07.01.2022 Multi species cover crop under pecan trees starting to get going, grass, legumes, cereal and brassicas. Will either be grazed or green manured to feed the trees. Who else has done this I would love to compare ideas.
07.01.2022 Some excellent progress being made on a Growmoor mentored farm on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, just the beginning. This place is going to fly, watch this space. #GrowMoorBiological #RegenerativeFarming #MultispeciesPasture #BiologicalFarming #GrowMoor #HinderlandFarmers #SunshineCoastFarmers #LivingSoil #HealthySoil
07.01.2022 Sustainable energy and regenerative farming on the same farm. Some great results with new and innovative farmers. Well done guys.
07.01.2022 Earthworms. Just yesterday I was on a pasture farm where for the past few months we could not find a worm no matter how much we dug. Then they were there!! Every spade revealed one if not more juvenile earthworms. Here are some basic fun facts about worms that you might not have known. 1. They are hermaphrodite, that is they have both male and female reproductive organs. 2. They breath through their skins and hence why they need a moist soil or environment in which to success...fully live. 3. They can live for several years. 4. After "mating" they produce a cocoon in which 4 to 20 eggs are deposited, these take 2 to 3 weeks to hatch. 5. They reach sexual maturity at about 6 weeks 6. Populations can double in a short a time as 60 days under favourable conditions 7. If cut in half behind the Clitellum (darker section where the vital organs are) the front half will normally survive and the other half die. 8. In cold winters they can " Estivate" in a slime ball deeper in the soil. Similar to Hibernate as bears do!! 9. The soil they ingest containing organic matter and other soil microbes when excreted can contain concentrations of nutrients 5 to 10 times what went in. 10. All round great little critters that are vital to soil health in so many ways, look after their habitat and give them a safe home, adequate food and water and they will tirelessly look after you. 07.01.2022 Growmoor expands into Mooloo Qld. Some exceptionally diverse pastures with over 20 varieties, rotational, grazing and signs of improving soil biology. Looking forward to the next step together.
07.01.2022 I often get asked what a good flow rate into a drinking trough looks like. This is probably as good as you get, definately more then 2l/second.
05.01.2022 Middle of winter 30 June 2020. This pasture is 95 days since planting. When we planted there was almost not a worm in sight, maybe one or two after 4 or 5 digs. Take a look what we now have. All they needs is a safe home, adequate food and water and no poison. They will appear as if a magic wand was waved. Rural Boss an organic BioFertliizer was foliar applied at a rate of 20l/ha with each fertigation. Why would you spend thousands of $$ on worm juice, casting extracts or anything else excep trying to create a safe "home" for them to live in. They are literally "growing" Soil in this pasture..
05.01.2022 Danny Hood from Global Boss International and I were interviewed by the ABC this morning about the work we are doing to bring Hope to the dairy industry firstly on the Sunshine coast and then who know where.
04.01.2022 Great day to be involved with. Thanks especially to Keith and Sonya Hopper. With enough rain to put a smile on most farmers faces.
04.01.2022 It's a pleasure working with like minded and innovative farming families. Growmoor Biological has a vision to bring HOPE to farmers through better production and increased profits. It's well underway.
04.01.2022 The power of positive intention, the challenge is converting this into Action and implementation. Are you brave enough!!?
01.01.2022 Just did a road trip to NSW, got back to QLD just before the gates closed. Where was I ?? The picture should help. Succession planning in farming families is so important and often left till something tragic or unexpected happen. Hats off to all those amazing forward thinking families who I work with for starting when you still have control. Never easy always worthwhile!!
01.01.2022 30 days and grazing today.
01.01.2022 An often forgotten essential "nutrient" H2O!! No matter how good your pasture or grazing management is, if cattle do not have adequate supply of good clean water production will suffer. They will drink 10% of their body mass and more depending on heat and physiological conditions. This can easily double in extreme heat conditions! Hundreds of cattle can be drunk off one trough as long as the flow rate is good enough, at least 2l/second. Cattle will generally drink in groups of 5,7 or 9 if water is not limited. Watch this behaviour next time you are in the paddock it fascinating. If they are mobbing the trough something is wrong.
01.01.2022 Summer mixed pastures doing well at Maleny.
