13.01.2022 In view of the recent backlash against The Night Cat and its owner Justin Stanford, we feel compelled to protect and defend the venue that has supported the Lat...in music scene for over 24 years. An inappropriate comment was posted by Justin on a public site and his words have been taken out of context. Although he has expressed his regret and apologised for his actions, some have taken it upon themselves to defame Justin and are now attempting to boycott the club. This has led to some artists cancelling shows, the club’s staff being called off work and the Night Cat closing for the night. We as the Latin community in Melbourne and Sydney can attest to the cultural diversity and acceptance that has always prevailed at The Night Cat. The club is the only venue in Melbourne where 10-15 piece Latin bands have the opportunity to showcase their music with world class production and staging. It would have a devastating effect on our community to lose a place where we can experience a little piece of home. Justin has always been a strong supporter of culture and those of us who know him, know he is NOT a racist. Let’s all take a breath and let cool heads prevail. one love
