13.01.2022 Some tunnel work. Controlling the head controls the dog. Hand on collar and put their head in tunnel while owner gets down or in at other end and encourages the power through the tunnel with lots of enthusiasm. Some pups baulk at the tunnel which is normal if they haven't done it before so we shorten up a tunnel and keep it in a straight line rather than bend it.... It's not uncommon for the owner to have to crawl in as well to encourage the pup. Once they get it, the tunnel is often a favourite of all dogs and they can't wIt to do it again.

13.01.2022 Please remember to pre-book BEFORE 5 pm today. And please read the Safe Return to Training Guidflines - this document contains important information regarding training on Sunday, and everyone in attendance should be aware of these guidelines!

07.01.2022 An interesting article........

06.01.2022 Just because your dog does things for you at home doesn't mean it's trained. At home they're aren't many distractions like you would find in the outside world. Gradually increase distractions by training in the front yard, then move to the footpath and further away from home then to other places. Only increase the distractions when the dogs training is solid in previous settings.

06.01.2022 GSDCV SKYE BRANCH UPDATE ON RESUMPTION OF TRAINING. We wish to advise that we are ready to resume training as soon as we have permission from Dogs Victoria to do so at KCC Park. Our Covid Safe plan has been submitted and we await an early response.... We hope to have more positive news in the next week so watch this space!

04.01.2022 Learning to walk up the steps and down the ramp. When teaching any piece of equipment you must have control of the head so your hand needs to be right at the collar. If you control the head you control the body of the dog. You must also stay very close to and inline with the dog. This helps guide the dog where you want them to go and if they do slip, jump off you can stop them.... You must also take your time and not rush otherwise the dog could slip off and may become fearful of equipment. All these exercise are confidence building and you don't gain that if you rush. This may look easy but if a dog hasn't done it before they may be unsure. The steps have no backing on them so it's different to normal steps a dog may walk up. As you will see, a number of dogs don't realise they have back legs to walk with up the steps. They will often jump to the top platform (which we don't want) or they will put front legs up and refuse to move the back. We have to teach them how to use their back legs to walk up. Once they get it they are fine. Going down the ramp we do not want them to run or jump off. They must walk steadily all the way down.
