20.01.2022 This page was just a test to see if I knew what I was doing so now that it's here I should start it, modify it and reply to the good people who come here! Well, to start with, my blues playing is acoustic so the pic is not really appropriate, I'll get around to that soon. When did I start playing blues : Sometime in 1964.... Why : I had followed a beautiful Swedish Amazon back to her home in Stockholm where she took me to a blues concert featuring Howling Wolf, Sleepy John Estes, Sonny Boy(Rice Miller)Williamson and...and...Lightnin' Hopkins!! I was gobsmacked, astounded, astonished and speechless! I had never heard this music and in particular, Lightnin' Hopkins. I was amazed by his guitar playing (I could only play half a dozen chords and I'd been learning lots of simple traditional folk songs at the time) and that voice. I found two of his LP's and learnt all the songs and all his errors and naively copied his vocal inflections. That was the start of it, so here we go.....

14.01.2022 The two Hopkins albums I found in a little record shop in Torquay in the South of England, Lightnin' Hopkins sings the Blues' & Lightnin' Hopkins sings Dirty House Blues.' At the time the second title sounded alluring, even seductive to the mind of a testosterone bloated teenager. When I put it on the turntable and heard his electric guitar (Most likely an acoustic with a pickup) & deep throated ragged voice loaded with reverb, forcefully step into my room and take over. Bottl...e caps on his shoes to enhance the rhythm of his driving thumb, some unknown soul with a stand-up bass way on the other side of the room trying to figure out where the changes were, that was it for me. I was going to be a blues player, or should I say, I was going to learn how to play what I heard on those two records...and I did, mistakes and all. ( I didn't have much of an ear so I didn't know they were mistakes) It took me about a year of asking around, you know, 'what's that chord, where are those notes etc?' Looking for the sounds on my crappy old guitar (A cheap classical with steel strings, didn't take long to rip the bridge off) having no idea what I was doing. There were some good pickers that really got me started at the Art School in Newton Abbot I was attending and yes, I even had a cheap camera. I'd flunked out of school so it was a Right Brained life for me and I have to tell you 55 years later, it was the right thing to do. See more

11.01.2022 Honestly, I think facebook is a load of crap. I don't know how to tidy up this page so we can have a decent conversation about what's really important, 'THE BLUES.' How about we find something where the only thing visible is what we've put on or said! Anyone got any ideas? Facebook has lost control of itself, it has verbal & visual Diahorea...terminal
