25.01.2022 MEETING and NETWORKING INVITATION - Carpentaria/Gulf WHEN - Friday 21st June at 2pm WHERE - Barramundi Discovery Centre - Karumba... WHO - Gulf Chamber of Commerce, Carpentaria Shire Council - Mayor Jack Bawden and Tourism Manager Verena Olesch and all interested in the future economy and doing business locally, regionally and beyond - particularly focused on tourism - not just tourism focused businesses as this includes service industry, retail, food outlets, supermarkets, fuel etc WHAT - Numerous challenges face business owners and operators locally and regionally - recent years with failed wet seasons, impacting on land and sea, the recent seasons dry Flinders River flood in the Gulf and lack of cohesive and engaging regional profile, marketing and promotion with the ongoing struggle with telecommunication/internet - are adding to an apparent gradual decline in visitation more generally through the Gulf region - with shoulder period months contracting locally and regionally - and peak activity periods shrinking. Councils, regional economic development organisation, local tourism organisation and regional tourism organisation - all have various tourism strategies, focus and activity - all different to each other for different purpose and focus - can this be consolidated and focused across the board? Should businesses be consulted and engaged in local and regional tourism strategies and planning and do they want to be involved? Should it be consolidated? How to get the 'best bang for the buck' for local and regional benefit longer term? What role or input should business owners/operators and managers play in this - financial/informative-consultative/joint marketing and promotion etc? Where to from here? What actions can be identified, supported and put into motion? Who should or could be driving these actions and strategies? Everyone interested - please come along for the meeting - if you are unable to attend please provide any input you would like tabled and we will endeavour to capture key discussion, issues and outcomes to share with everyone - this is not just about Karumba and the Chamber will be happy to work towards other meeting in Normanton and other Gulf communities if there is interest and support to do so.

24.01.2022 Just a reminder - the annual Karumba Anglers Classic which was postponed in April due to regional flooding and road closures is now happening - SEPTEMBER 28/29/30 - share the information - more to come soon!

22.01.2022 The Gulf Chamber of Commerce invites business owners, operators, managers and all interested to a networking get together at the Sunset Tavern - Karumba 6-6.30...pm this coming Wednesday 17th April Graham Locke from Mt Isa Department of State Development will be attending. The Chamber would love to have input into options for small business workshops and forums to be held in the region in mid to later May this year. Following on from drought impacts, flooding, road closures and overall economic climate and outlook for the area difficulties/challenges and opportunities for businesses of all sectors, sizes and formats to maintain resilience and more we seek all input into ensuring the most useful and practical workshops and sessions we can have. Further to continue lobbying etc for improved telecommunications infrastructure, transport corridors etc. This is also a networking/catch up opportunity as the tourism season commences, prawn and commercial fishing season is underway, pastoral holdings recoup and move towards mustering rounds and business activity in general ramps up after a long off season. Finger food will be provided and we look forward to seeing you there or hearing from you on your ideas and input to the May workshops and sessions. Regards Gulf Chamber of Commerce
