25.01.2022 #BREAKING: Western Australia is introducing mandatory registers at venues to help contact trace in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak in the state. The contact re...gisters will be compulsory from December 5, with a new app, called Safe WA, launched to allow patrons to check-in electronically. Information will be kept for 28 days and can only be accessed by contact tracers if required. Businesses must keep a written register for people who don't use the app. WA Premier Mark McGowan says the measures will create a system that is ready to jump into action. "We don't have any covid. Which is a great thing. But we just want to be prepared in case we get an outbreak. This is all about being prepared for the future, having systems in place," he said.
22.01.2022 This morning I can now announce our next cautious and safe step as part of WA's controlled interstate border. Subject to no further outbreaks occurring and base...d on updated Chief Health Officer advice, Victoria and New South Wales will be classified as 'very low risk' states from 12.01am, Tuesday, December 8. The transition to the new category can occur, following a review by our Chief Health Officer after Victoria surpassed 28 days of no community cases and New South Wales is due to reach that milestone this Friday. As a result, WA's controlled interstate border will be safely adjusted, with travel from Victoria and New South Wales to be permitted into WA with the following conditions: - all Perth Airport arrivals to undergo a health screening and temperature test on arrival - travellers to be prepared to take a COVID-19 test at the airport COVID clinic, if deemed necessary by a health clinician (voluntary asymptomatic testing available for all airport arrivals) - completion of a G2G Pass declaration, stipulating they do not have any COVID-19 symptoms and which jurisdictions the traveller has been in over the previous 14 days - all travellers to receive a SMS health check reminder one week into their stay in WA - all land arrivals to be met at the border checkpoint, for a health screening and to have their G2G Pass declaration checked. Other jurisdictions currently in the ‘very low risk’ category include the Australian Capital Territory, Queensland, Northern Territory and Tasmania. The significantly improved situation in Victoria and New South Wales has been fantastic news for all Australians, and now it means that we can take this cautious next step. However, at this stage, South Australia will remain classified as a ‘medium risk’ jurisdiction. This classification will be reviewed again by December 11. Travel from South Australia remains prohibited unless travellers meet strict exemption criteria. Exempt travellers must also self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in Western Australia. Please note that those conditions apply to anyone who has been in South Australia in the previous 14 days. This also includes transit through South Australia, via road or air. Like always, we’re continuing to follow our State’s expert health advice. Our border controls have worked and allowed us to stay safe and return to a new normal throughout this pandemic, to get our economy going and people back in work. Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding during this extremely difficult time. I know it's been a long wait, and I'm so glad we can now safely allow more of our friends and family over east to travel into WA. Our careful and cautious approach has kept our State safe and strong and we will continue to take that approach going forward.

14.01.2022 A recent excavation has uncovered the oldest wooden artefact in the Pilbara along with evidence of one of Australia’s most ancient places. Archae-Aus and Yinhawangka Aboriginal Corporation excavated six rock shelter sites in the Western Range, a location about 25 minutes from Paraburdoo untouched by mining. During the excavation, chert artefacts, a hearth, wooden ladder, stone artefacts, burnt ochre, digging stick and grinding material were among the discoveries found.... The wooden ladder was found to be 687 years old while the digging stick dates back 1723 years ago, making it the oldest wooden artefact in the Pilbara. https://thewest.com.au//dig-reveals-ancient-treasures-ng-b

01.01.2022 The WA border is now closed to South Australia Travellers from South Australia and anyone who has been there in the past 14 days will only be allowed to e...nter Western Australia if they meet strict exemption criteria, including essential workers. MORE | https://ab.co/2IGbxVo Consideration will also be given to people seeking to enter the state on compassionate grounds, including West Australians who have travelled to South Australia in recent days. Those granted an exemption will be required to be tested for COVID-19 on arrival at Perth Airport, and on day 11 of their mandatory 14 days' quarantine. For those heading to WA by road through the Eucla checkpoint, the new restrictions will be enforced from 6pm this Wednesday. Western Australia's Premier Mark McGowan has warned he is seriously considering bringing back the state's hard border. "Bringing back the hard border altogether is under serious consideration, especially given the number of people from South Australia that have been travelling around the country in the last week," he said. "Please do not come to WA at this point if you don't absolutely have to. The situation is just too risky right now." The WA border remains closed for travellers from NSW and Victoria.
