11.01.2022 Our neighbors bull, Connor, isn’t one to be trifled with - especially with a few star droppers and wire fence separating the two of you he can be quite intimida...ting at times But each morning my son insists on visiting him, and each morning the bond between this unlikely pair seems to grow. #adelaidehills #countryliving #farmlife See more

04.01.2022 It was a year where we couldn’t do everything we had planned, however, upon reflection it was still a pretty good year. Thanks to all the members of the Main ...Street Project who offer their expertise and energy, and to all of our project partners and supporters. Here’s our top five for this year 1. The work to underground powerlines started this year. During community consultation, this was the big ticket item, at the top of the community wish-list. Through extensive campaigning, successfully applying for funding, and working closely with and with incredible support from Adelaide Hills Council we achieved two stages of undergrounding in one go from Victoria Street to Randell Terrace. This work is funded by Adelaide Hills Council, SA Power Networks and the Power Line Environment Committee and is a $3m+ investment in our town. This year, we were also excited to sit in the gallery at a Council meeting to hear elected members endorse the detailed design for streetscaping which is another almost $1m investment achieved in partnership with Council due to start in the new year. 2. The launch of Gumeracha Unwind. This is a modest tourism campaign and features a printed brochure, merchandise, Facebook and Instagram pages, and a website to encourage people to explore and enjoy our town and support local businesses. Thanks to Adelaide Hills Council for a community grant, Rebecca Prince and Uncle Ivan Tiwu Copley for their stunning artwork, Erin Abell for brochure design, and Kerrie Drogemuller for website design. 3. Artwork on the town entrance wall. The Main Street Project secured the funding that enabled this to happen and Adelaide Hills Council managed the selection process and is the project manager of this major public art installation. Award winning artist Paul Herzich’s design honours the Peramangk and Kaurna culture of this place and incorporates sand blasted and painted imagery that reflects important aspects of the land. 4. The Gumeracha Fifth Sunday Market grew from strength to strength. Thanks to the vision of team member Libby, the Fifth Sunday Market is continuing to attract more and more stallholders and more and more visitors. Part of our mission is to raise the profile of Gumeracha and to encourage people to discover our town. The Market is certainly doing that. 5. All the wine was sold! Thanks to the team at Unico Zelo, who approached us with this partnership idea, our very own fundraising wine was shipped to all corners of the country and enabled a donation to our group of $8,200. Cheers! At our AGM this year, we welcomed five new members who bring a fresh set of skills and enthusiasm to allow our Working Party to continue to work hard and have fun in equal measure. We invested in a PA system and five sets of tables and chairs this year to use at our events. Other local community groups are welcome to borrow them. Just sing out. We came second at the Gumeracha Primary School Quiz Night our best result yet and the Gumeracha Garden Fairies maintained their quiet care of our main street plants. Then we rounded out the year being named Best Regional Main Street in the Mainstreet SA annual awards. This is testament to lots of volunteer hard work, the courage of business investment, and our respectful relationship and partnership with Adelaide Hills Council. If you celebrate Christmas, we hope it is safe, full of peace and that you are surrounded by love. And we look forward to another great year for our town in 2021.
