25.01.2022 Time has gone quickly in one sense...today is the anniversary of the Sir Ivan Fire devastation. I take a balanced view: There is much to be excited about on the farm, and the recovery whilst slow, is steady - the balance being to be unafraid of remembering. Perspective is such a powerful tool - look for the good times (we have a choice), and let's bring them on.

24.01.2022 Was this rainfall event the start of the end (of drought)? Over the weekend, George and I worked flat-out to prepare what became the most-anticipated rainfall event in our Gundooee memory. Alas, Monday morning I tipped out only about half an inch of rain - I was gutted. Being crook in the stomach since Saturday morning didnt help, and yesterday I hit rock bottom and couldnt dig my way out. I was lying wistfully and painfully in front of the 7.00pm news last night, then the reader summed up with "There is no rain forecast for the foreseeable future"...thanks mate! Then suddenly out of nowhere, this massive storm dumps some fantastic follow-up rain - we ended up with a good inch all up which will do a lot of good at this time of year...I hope it can now continue.

22.01.2022 It was fantastic to receive some better falls of rain over these past two months - the paddocks are at least the right colour now (green - ha). Many of the dams are now full too - brilliant! The first photo is an example of one of the hidden costs of the fire - with nothing much to hold the rainfall in the hills, the increased run-off has blown the back of this dam out...and the whole wall is about to collapse! The second photo is beautiful, but masks the potential disaster.

21.01.2022 Our Leadville RFS (Rural Fire Service) brigade took delivery of a new fire truck recently - it has everything but a pop-up toaster. The old truck needed replacing as it has many call-outs each year - this new truck will allow us to better manage roadside accidents (we are often first on scene) as well as bushfires. Pictured is Angus and myself at the handover session...but being out-done completely by the shiny new truck.

21.01.2022 Qld Tour: Part 3 (of 4)... Alstonville Quality Meats is on the NSW north coast, and has been a valued supporter of Gundooee Organic beef for several years. Pictured is Ashley with his skilled team out the front of their smart new shop. Their energy and passion for quality produce was evident in all facets of the business, and I am looking forward to hosting them all here on the farm hopefully later in the year. Keep up the great work.

20.01.2022 OK, here is the supplementary Sydney Tour photo: Angus held an unofficial Gundooee Beef tasting day (at his new abode), masceraging as his 22nd birthday (ha). I spent a fantastic afternoon catching up with you all, and thanks kids for getting behind our beef (note the flags on the tray) and making me feel so welcome.

20.01.2022 Taste Of Paradise is our charity partner which Gundooee Organics has been supporting for over a decade. Tim, Andy and the team do amazing work for our disadvantaged young people - read more on our website. Last Saturday was an open day on the farm, and it was fantastic to be back and see how the farm has progressed - Tims enthusiasm and positivity was in full flight on the day.

20.01.2022 I have just worked out why we have not been getting much rain! Sadly, I dont think the choice of nest venue was all that good for the eggs - there is always next year I guess.

19.01.2022 AGISTMENT REQUEST: Our thoughts go out to those suffering loss from the recent fires, and having lived through our own savage bush fire here at Gundooee almost three years ago, we have a healthy appreciation of their grief and struggles. Sadly, as we have remained in drought since the Sir Ivan fire back in February, 2017, there has been little recovery nor reprieve for our soils and pastures. Perhaps those who have been fortunate enough to be under some good falls of rain may be in a position to offer some agistment (preferably organic) for our cattle. If you or if you know of anyone please contact us, we would love to hear from you.

19.01.2022 Driving to Roma over the Easter break to catch up with a college mate and family, Steph and I travelled through Thallon. We did not expect to see such a scene, and depicted to this scale - an amazing feature in an otherwise sleepy outback Australian town! Roma area is having an exceptional season - we have sent agistment cattle here at times over the years.

19.01.2022 Thank you to those people who were able to respond to our agistment request. Since then we have received several slow inches of rain (and then 1 1/2 quick ones) which has turned our paddocks this strange green colour, and filled our dams (mostly with water). The rain has not been evenly distributed across the state however - let's hope these changes in weather patterns can continue.

16.01.2022 Sydney Tour: Part 3 (of 4)... Friday morning, I traveled to the eastern suburbs where Joel (left) at Kingsmore Meats (and ably assisted by brother Josh and assistant Pretty) were hard at work. How good does the meat in the cabinet look, and I came away with a range of tasty and ethically-produced goodies too. Good luck with the planned shop improvements Joel.

15.01.2022 Qld Tour: Part 4 (of 4)... The Hungerford Meat Co. (formerly Branxton Quality Meats) is where it all started, and is our final series post. I first met Michael (left) when he was working with our beef in his former life as a chef in a hatted Sydney restaurant, and now with his loyal shop workforce, Michael has taken it to the next level...check out the appetising beef in the dry-aging cabinet. With plans to expand sales in the Newcastle area (my old home town), it is going to be an exciting ride - great stuff team.

15.01.2022 I was moving cattle recently, and came across this scene...what are the chances? Fortunately, she hadn't been there for very long, and was very happy to be set free.

14.01.2022 Last week, we had 'Blazeaid Geoff' return to the farm for another work session - it is hard to decide whether it is his work or inspiration which is the greatest assistance? Geoff put together this meal and everything was from our veggie garden (which he helped us build last time he was here) - thanks so much Geoff.

12.01.2022 Welcome to 2019..lets hope it is an easier one than 2018 (and particularly 2017 - ha). Just in case you need some direction to get you off the blocks, I hope this photo provides the necessary inspiration. Happy New Year from all at Gundooee Organics.

12.01.2022 Another fantastic initiative. Receiving support not only helps financially but also gives hope that we are not doing it alone. With this, depositing plastic bottles at TOMRA recycling locations will help save the environment and the money will go towards giving a bit of financial relief to struggling farmers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwhWml_kdD0&feature=emb_logo

12.01.2022 Last week, we had a visit to Gundooee from 'Saltbush Ben'. I concede the evening meal was dominated by meat - succulent and flavoursome Saltbush lamb loin chops as a starter, then the juicy Gundooee bone-in shoulder steaks as the main...pictured however is the breakfast treat. The deep-rooted saltbush plants will be trialed here on Gundooee in the lighter country in 2019 - thanks Ben for a hearty and informative evening.

11.01.2022 Sydney Tour: Part 2 (of 4)... Laura and Grant of Feather and Bone have been 'brothers in arms' for over a decade, as we try to encourage consumers to be more food-aware, and consider the environment in all ways. At my visit on the Thursday, we had a 30-minute 'staff talk' where we covered the salient points of 'Feed & Breed' of our cattle production. Thanks team, and I look forward to the next decade!

11.01.2022 Gundooee FB is back - apologies for the break, but we have been busy... Last week, we had a team of Qantas volunteers on the farm to help with some recovery projects, like yard reconstruction and cottage make-over...more on these projects later. I really want to thank the team for their laughter, caring and dedicated work - it was literally life changing. You are all welcome at Gundooee any time.

11.01.2022 This is how we planted the Saltbush seedlings at one of our trial plots. The water injector creates the hole, and provides water as well. Next, a sprinkle of Guanu (bat poo - fertiliser), then some mulch and finally a tree guard. Good rains have followed..will keep you posted.

10.01.2022 Rudys expression says it all after a big monday on the farm.... Time for rest

10.01.2022 Sydney Tour: Part 1 (of 4)... At the end of March, the country came to the city...my ute looked a little conspicuous (ha). My first stop was Dolce Vita Fine Foods (Pino's) - this was my first viewing of the new shop since the fire. Pictured is Pino, with Pia (who is standing proudly with him...as always), and the hospitable Marco on the right. I don't understand how, but each visit, they all seem to look younger! Thanks for a memorable visit, and your support of Gundooee.

10.01.2022 This year we are launching an extension to the Gundooee Organics business - Gundooee Getaways. Come and stay in the Getaways Cottage! Walk amongst our cattle, learn about our farming systems and enjoy some Gundooee Beef. The getaways tab on our website can be found here: http://gundooeeorganics.com.au/getaways/

09.01.2022 Qld Tour: Part 2 (of 4)... Sherwood Road Organic Meats in Brisbane has been with us now for a couple of years, and has a strong affinity with the customers. Ami, Gavin and the team patiently listened to me run through my spiel which in essence covers the 'Breed and feed' behind Gundooee beef. Their hamburger patties were amazing too. I send a half-body of beef every 4 weeks, so let them know if you would like to place an order - great stuff team.

08.01.2022 Welcome to 2019..let's hope it is an easier one than 2018 (and particularly 2017 - ha). Just in case you need some direction to get you off the blocks, I hope this photo provides the necessary inspiration. Happy New Year from all at Gundooee Organics.

07.01.2022 A view from my office...

07.01.2022 This week, we have a treat for you - a series of 4 consecutive daily posts (in reverse order) of my recent 'Northern Tour'. I visited 3 stockists of Gundooee Organic beef on the way to Queensland, being my next 3 posts. This morning, you are looking at a photo of us processing our 83head of breeding cattle still on agistment near Roma. We pregnancy-tested the cows, and drafted off the calves which we then trucked down to Gundooee the next morning. The second photo is yard-weaning the calves at Gundooee...which as I write this, are now out happily grazing in the Front Paddock.

05.01.2022 On the northern boundary of Gundooee, we have a fantastic neighbour who allows us to lease some grazing country...and it is all fully certified organic! This is a photo of some Gundooee F2 cattle on the track which links two paddocks...and in the foreground is Belle having a little break.

05.01.2022 Sydney Tour: Part 4 (of 4)... Shoulder to Shank Organic Butcher at Neutral Bay was called Cleavers when they first started taking Gundooee Organic Wagyu beef....almost a decade ago. I wasn't able to include any people in this photo as my timing was not great, but Robert and his team are there somewhere...working hard no-doubt. Great to catch up as always boys.

03.01.2022 So, another week and month begins today. November provided us with 4 inches of rain - great stuff. Whether you are celebrating a birthday today or just going to work, I hope it is a good one for you. The photo is of Gundooee on sunset...a favourite time of the day.

02.01.2022 Staring down her next chook target. Business at usual at the farm, in the same boat as everyone else looking to the horizon for clouds. Its important to appreciate the little things in such trying times, such as our beautiful dog, Belle.

01.01.2022 Introducing Gundooee Organic Wag-ewe... After branching out with Gundooee Getaways we thought, how much further can we take this? We now own a small mob of sheep roaming around our pastures and keeping our cattle company. ... Stay tuned for more exciting plot twists in our business! Photo taken by Angus
