25.01.2022 Following a consultation held earlier in the year (which included the GCC), the ACT Government has prepared a draft landscape plan for the Franklin Grasslands. The plan, which is mostly maps and pictures, is really easy to understand and looks terrific. You can find the plan and an online survey on the Have Your Say website. This is a great initiative to improve part of one of Gungahlin's "signature" features - our surrounding grasslands. Take a couple of minutes to answer the survey!! https://www.yoursay.act.gov.au/franklin-grasslands

14.01.2022 The GCC received an update on the Gungahlin Cinema project from the developer through the week and, like so many things, it's been impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic ... "The cinema industry has been significantly impacted by COVID-19 due to social distancing restrictions. The cinema industry has lost approximately 90% of its revenue since COVID-19 started. We have been working closely with the cinema operator during this period and due to the ongoing COVID-19 implications it... has been jointly decided to put the construction on hold until some certainty and total relaxation of social distancing measures are in place." I know this is frustrating but there's not a great deal that can be done. For those keeping track, the timeline has roughly been: 2012 - Site announced by ACT government 2013 - Expression of interest issued 2015 - Lease for block signed 2016 - Original DA Approved 2019 - United announced as operator (after legal action) 2020 - New DA Approved On a slightly positive note, construction has commenced on the DHA Office building

05.01.2022 Many of us in Gungahlin had never had to wear face masks until 2020 ... But if you suffered through the smoke of the January bush fires you might want to get involved with the University of NSW's "Breathe" study: "Unprecedented bushfires in the black summer of 2019-2020 probably caused at least 400 excess deaths and thousands of hospital admissions for cardiac and respiratory health effects of bushfire smoke. During the fires, many people attempted to protect themselves from the smoke by wearing face masks, but there is no published evidence on their efficacy for this purpose." Click through if you are interested!

04.01.2022 Heads Up! Parts of Belconnen, Gungahlin and the Inner North which usually have a Wednesday or Thursday collection will not have their waste and recycling bins collected this week, Wednesday, 18 November and Thursday, 19 November, 2020. Missed collections will not be caught up. You can take your waste to the temporary drop-off sites and your recycling to a Recycling Drop Off Centre.

03.01.2022 Rosie King is a reporter for the ABC working on a TV story for Sunday night about the need for Canberrans to start preparing their homes against the threat of fire, storm and flood. The ESA says grass fires pose the biggest risk to the Territory this summer and those living in Canberra’s north need to be hyper vigilant because of really vigorous grass growth. If your family is willing to be interviewed about how informed they feel about the season ahead and also what precautions they will be taking to prepare, please contact me via Messenger or email ([email protected]) and I'll pass along her details. Rosie is hoping to do a meeting of no more than 30 minutes this morning if possible.

02.01.2022 Gungahlin is severely lacking in sporting facilities across the board. Near the top of that list is a multi-purpose Indoor Sports Centre.

01.01.2022 We had several questions about who is running in the ACT Election leading up to the GCC Election Forum last month ... and now the final list is out!
