24.01.2022 In our hundredth year, we acknowledge and thank all our past, present, and future Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander personnel. Over the course of our histo...ry, we have forged enduring links in times of war and peace with towns and districts across regional Australia. As part of our Centenary, we recognise these links with the community. The Centenary Welcome Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial saw samples of shells, soil and sand collected from around the country placed in the For our Country Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander memorial, as an acknowledgment of our presence on the Country of traditional custodians around Australia. 06.01.2022 To our peacekeepers and peacemakers - thank you for your service to our nation. And thank you to your families for their sacrifices.
04.01.2022 Today, on National Peacekeepers and Peacemakers Day, we say thank you for your service to all Australians who have served during peacekeeping operations. From t...he first mission as part of the UN operation in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) between 1947 and 1951 to current peacekeeping deployments throughout the world, Australia has been involved in more than 50 peacekeeping operations. The Australian Defence Force and Australia’s police services have formed a crucial part of the nation’s peacekeeping efforts around the world. In their duties as peacekeepers and peacemakers, they have played a restorative role in helping countries after they have been devastated by war. This Australian War Memorial photograph was taken in 1992 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Leading Aircraftwoman (LACW) Kylie Kiddle of Townsville, Queensland, and Corporal Mick Hicklin of Watsonia from Victoria are working at the Communications Centre at HQ United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC). LACW Kiddle is one of twenty Royal Australian Air Force personnel who served with the 500-strong Australian military communications contingent to the UN peacekeeping operation in Cambodia. #TYFYS Learn more about Australia’s peacekeeping history: anzacportal.dva.gov.au/wars-and-missions/peacekeeping
