10.01.2022 Guy Sara & Associates recently acted for a young University student currently studying Nursing. The young student attended a party at a private home, and did not know the majority of other people at the party. During the party, the Police attended due to a complaint from a neighbour. When Police arrived, they searched the premises and found several concealed small bags of cannabis and a drug utensil. ... Our client proclaimed her innocence, claiming she had no knowledge of the illicit drugs or utensil. No-one at the party admitted owning the drugs or utensil, therefore all people were arrested under sections 9(1) and 10(2)(b) of the Drugs Misuse Act 1986 (Qld) Possessing Dangerous Drugs and Possess Utensils or Pipes that had been used. Naturally, in a state of anxiety about her future in nursing, the young student approached our firm for much needed assistance. Armed with the potential consequences of a negative outcome, we went to work to identify a defence strategy. We have recently handled various criminal law matters from minor theft to serious and heinous crimes including convicted murderers and rapists. Like Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird, Mr Guy Sara will represent anyone. When recently asked why? Mr Sara responded, it’s my job, and everyone is entitled to the best legal representation under our legal system.... Mr Sara has represented wide ranging criminal offenders from first time drink driving offenders to convicted murderers and rapists. Often these cases are in the face of hectoring lynch mobs, however Mr Sara continues to represent such offenders, because he believes everyone is entitled to fair representation. Mr Sara recently represented a convicted rapist, who during parole failed to meet his reporting obligations. Facing a maximum of 5 years imprisonment for failing to report, Mr Sara persuaded the court to impose a 6 month sentence with a 2 month parole eligibility date. It was key that in his submission our client can’t be sentenced for the original crime or have that taken into account. The only matter before the court was failure to report for parole. Mr Sara and his legal team were successful in having the 5 year sentence reduced to 6 months.
