19.01.2022 It is with much regret and sadness that we announce the cancellation of the 2020 GVRHA 'Genetically Gifted' Buckle Up & Slide Reining Spectacular. We had hoped that by postponing this show from May to November this year we would be able to proceed with our annual event but unfortunately due to the ongoing uncertainty and restrictions surrounding COVID-19 here in Victoria and the Tatura Park venue unsure of a date they will be able to re-open, the decision has been made by the GVRHA Committee to cancel this event for 2020. We look forward to seeing you all back in the saddle and showing again hopefully before too long! - GVRHA Committee

Dodge (Sire: Cromed By Custom), bred by Craig Hall. Q. Do you train with a Reining Trainer? A. I started my reining journey with Todd McCormick and then I was fortunate to train with Mick Taylor from Spin Valley Ranch prior to my husband getting sick at the start of 2019. Mick was extremely helpful during this time with looking after my horses. I then just trained from DVD's for the most part of last year due to caring for my husband during his recovery. I did a couple of clinics at the end of last year with Brett McDonald and loved what Brett brings to his clinics. He is very passionate about his reining and it's highly infectious. I really enjoy training with Brett, he is very encouraging and is happy to bring his lovely family over to the Echuca area for clinics and lessons, which is a big bonus for us who live in this area. About time he came over again, hint, hint.... Q. What is your most memorable moment in Reining? A. Every time I get on Ace is special, love this horse, and I suppose I should say that getting my first score over 70 last year at the SCRHA Championship Show at K Ranch. Q. My husband and I have an interest in a few harness racers so you may see me up the back of the stands at a reining show watching our horses run and cheering for them. Q. What is the best advice you have been given in life? A. The best advice was given to me by my husband Shane last year when he was recovering from serious illness; Get to know your horse, work hard through the good and bad days, focus, set your own goals. Ken Anderson Equine Photography

10.01.2022 'MEMBER MONDAY' !! This week we introduce GVRHA member.... KERRYN PRIOR... Q. At what age did you begin riding? A. Growing up on the farm in South Australia we always had horses as kids and attended the rodeo circuit for many years watching dad compete. I got back into horses about 12 years ago, team penning as well as mustering in the high country for a business that did 7 day droving trips bringing approximately 400 head of cattle out of the high country. Q. What was your first horse? A. Kacktus Jack (aka KJ) Q. How long have you been Reining? A. I've been competing for 5 years. Q. How and why did you become involved in Reining? A. My dad had changed disciplines from rodeo to reining and did very well in both. I remember watching one of the shows thinking that some day it would be great to have a go at reining and to be sitting on a big stopping horse. A few years back I went to a clinic that David Norbury, Andrew Soper and Brett McDonald were doing together and things went from there and now I'm hooked! Q. Current horse/s? A. Yarraleigh Lethal Maximus (Lethal Wizard x Freckles Sandstorm). Stable name: Max. Q. Do you train with a Reining Trainer? A. Yes, I have the privilege of training with Brett and Michelle McDonald of McDonald Quarter Horses. Q. What is your most memorable moment in Reining? A. There have been a few but I think the most memorable for me would be the success I have had at the NSW State Shows winning the Beginner class the first year I was there and then the following year being in a run-off with Tracey Strelitz in the Two Handed Rookie class, I came second but with a PB. Also, up there with my own personal achievements was watching youth rider Ellie McDonald win her first buckle riding Max in Sydney and her little brother Lachie riding Max in the Lead Line class. Q. What is your favourite thing about Reining? A. Riding and showing is only part of it, it's the friends you make and the support you get from others when doing well and not so well. Q. Do you have any other hobbies outside of Reining? A. I enjoy working with my horses on the obstacles, camping, 4x4 driving, and getting away with good friends we have made both with the horses and 4wd trips we have done. Q. What is the best advice you have been given in life? A. Enjoy life to the fullest because you don't know how long it will last. Ken Anderson Equine Photography

08.01.2022 'MEMBER MONDAY' !! This week we introduce GVRHA member.... JACQUELINE RAGG... Q. At what age did you begin riding? A. Around 10 years old. My mum gave in to my nagging and took me to weekly riding lessons in Bayswater Vic. Q. What was your first horse? A. I got my first horse at 13, his name was 'Nonsense', a bay Quarter Horse who had been used for Polo. He was great at Games at Pony Club. Q. How long have you been Reining? A. 8 years. Q. How and why did you become involved in Reining? A. My daughter Chelsea took up Reining, so my dressage riding took a back seat - it was a matter of if you can't beat them, join them! Q. Current horse/s? A. Mondure Lil Calgirldunit (Lethal Lil Calboy x Eden Vale My Daddys Dunit). Stable name: Milly. Q. Do you train with a Reining Trainer? A. Yes, Chelsea helps me whenever I can pin her down and she doesn't quit with me until we manage to get a positive result, no matter how small. I've gained so much over the years attending clinics with local, interstate and overseas trainers but I find the more regular lessons you have with someone the more you and your horse improve. Q. What is your most memorable moment in Reining? A. I had a great State Show a few years ago winning and coming equal first in a few big classes. I had worked so hard to do well and I was on such a high for a day or two at the show, then the thought hit me - how on earth am I going to keep this up! Q. What is your favourite thing about Reining? A. The well trained horses - horses that can go from flat out to whoa then stand calmly straight away to listen for the next instruction. Q. Do you have any other hobbies outside of Reining? A. Lots of my hobbies are also my work, but I also have an E-Mountain bike which I love riding on the bush mountain tracks around home. Q. What is the best advice you have been given in life? A. My mother's favourite saying was, "Count your blessings" - every time I hop on a horse I consider myself very blessed (even when it all goes pear shaped!) Ken Anderson Equine Photography

Placing in any class is memorable for me haha...I'd have to say competing in the final of the GVRHA Green Rider Buckle series last year, even though I didn't win it lol...and receiving the 2019 GVRHA Runner-up Hi Point award for Rookie L1 riding Radical Gun. Q. What is your favourite thing about Reining? A. The atmosphere, the people you meet, having a drink or two with everyone but most of all I love the foundation that reining puts on the horses. Q. Do you have any other hobbies outside of Reining? A. I enjoy camping, 4x4 driving, hanging out with friends having a good laugh over drinks. Q. What is the best advice you have been given in life? A. Don't ever stop learning and growing as a person and in order to change your life, change your thinking.

04.01.2022 MEMBER MONDAY' !! This week we introduce GVRHA member.... VICKI EASTAWAY... Q. At what age did you begin riding? A. I started riding my cousin's pony, then at age 9 I got my first horse. I was beyond excited!! Q. What was your first horse? A. My first horse was your typical naughty mongrel pony named Riff Raff. He bolted, he wiped me off on trees, put his head down to eat grass and try as I might I could not get his head up! LOL I think he taught me grit and to never give up if you want something. Q. How long have you been Reining? A. About 8 years. Q. How and why did you become involved in Reining? A. It just sort of happened in an organic sort of way. A few things seemed to fall into place and I had myself a Reining horse. I knew almost zero about Reining, including what those 3 cones down each side of the show pen were for. Pretty funny . Q. Current horse/s? A. OP Hustlers Black Jack (Hustlers First Step x Winderadeen Smart Jet). Stable name: Rope. Q. Do you train with a Reining Trainer? A. Yes, I train with Gary Browne. Q. What is your most memorable moment in Reining? A. I have a lot of great memories but my best one would have to be winning my first (and only so far, fingers crossed for another one), the Rookie Level 1 buckle at the 2019 GVRHA Buckle Up & Slide Reining Spectacular show. Q. What is your favourite thing about Reining? A. The fact that it looks so easy, but it's the most complicated discipline. Quite a head f*** really . I love the people I've met through Reining, a great bunch. Q. Do you have any other hobbies outside of Reining? A. Ummm....don't have any really. Gardening out of necessity maybe. Q. What is the best advice you have been given in life? A. Sit on your pockets. Ken Anderson Equine Photography

01.01.2022 MEMBER MONDAY' !! This week we introduce GVRHA member.... REBECCA WYETT... Q. At what age did you begin riding? A. I started riding at a very young age as a child and then stopped for over a 15 year period while having my children. Q. What was your first horse? A. My first horse was a little grey welsh pony called Casper. Q. How long have you been Reining? A. I have only been reining for 3 years. Q. How and why did you become involved in Reining? A. I had never had a riding lesson before and my girlfriends were doing a reining clinic and asked if I wanted to join them (very low level reining, well at our level not even reining really lol), it sounded good and I didn't even know what Reining was really! It was the next clinic that I attended that I was asked if I'd ever thought about showing and I said "NO!" He then asked "why not?" and I said "I thought I'd be too old", and he said "you're not too old, if you want to show I can get you in the show pen." Bearing in mind I did not have a reining horse, I had a green broke QH with no education that I used for trail riding, he was named the 'Brumby' that weekend, it was a pretty wild operation lol !! Q. Current horse/s? A. Argles Dualman Jack (Mr Dualman x Nioka Argyles Jilleroo). Stable name: Jack. Q. Do you train with a Reining Trainer? A. Yes, I train with Katherine Kelderman. Q. What is your most memorable moment in Reining? A. My most memorable moment would be attending the 2019 RA National Show at Tamworth and winning my first national title, the Limited Non Pro. Q. What is your favourite thing about Reining? A. My favourite thing would be the 'training' and riding my horse each day. The refinement of each manoeuvre, riding physically, mentally and emotionally, the growth as a person it takes for those changes to take place with you and your horse to connect and become one and then at that very moment when you put it all together in the show pen after all the hard work and training, it comes together and your horse is with you, that is what I love! Q. Do you have any other hobbies outside of Reining? A. No, just being with my horse and riding. Q. What is the best advice you have been given in life? A. You can do anything, you just need to believe it....practice, patience, persistence! Ken Anderson Equine Photography
