Al will be giving a keynote interview, don't miss it! 'Training the force-velocity curve: Resistance training applications' by @DrTSuchomel PhD Carroll University . The presentation will provide a brief overview of previous and current work that has examined the force-velocity curve as it relates to athletic performance. It will discuss several periodisation and programming strategies including phase potentiation, heavy and light days, and drop sets. It will also discuss how to effectively prescribe different resistance training methods such as traditional resistance exercises, weightlifting derivatives, and potentiation complexes to improve both the force and velocity characteristics that underpin power development. 20.01.2022 Throw back Thursday @gordan.divljak @hfdorrell This study explored the effects of velocity-based training (VBT) on maximal strength (1RM) and jump height (CMJ) on 16 trained men. The VBT group's load was dictated through real-time velocity monitoring, as opposed Percentage Based Training (PBT).... . The study found two main observations: 1 Following the six week intervention, the VBT group increased strength and power in all tests with significant difference in benchpress and CMJ compared to the PBT group. . 2 Interestingly, the VBT group achieved these positive outcomes despite a significant reduction in total training volume compared with the PBT group. 20.01.2022 GymAware is the world’s most accurate and reliable VBT device! But why is that important? So you can rely on the numbers and formulate training programs based off them. How do you know something is moving at 0.8m/s if the device has a measurement error of 10% or worse... You don’t want your athletes second guessing your coaching methods. As an athlete there’s nothing more frustrating than knowing you’ve increased your intensity in between reps, only to be told ...you’ve just moved slower.. No unwanted ghost reps!! All the data is saved and stored on the cloud, so you can track and monitor progress over time. For coaches on a budget, checkout our latest product @flex.stronger Highly precise and super affordable! flexstronger.com gymaware.com

18.01.2022 NeuroForce1 Repost GymAware allows you to account for the variable nature of the human nervous system in all aspects of training. - - Velocity Based Training is an alternative to percentage-based training and is a great way to auto-regulate training load each day. The nervous system is never constant so relying solely on 1RM percentages determined weeks or months prior doesn’t account for the daily variation of the nervous system.... - - For example, perhaps you were scheduled to perform a 5x5 set of squats at 80% of your 1RM but you’re completely exhausted and you’re incapable of squatting that load today and doing so would put you at greater risk of injury or maybe you’ve gotten much stronger since establishing your 1RM and you could handle a heavier load for your 5x5 set today. - - Velocity Based Training allows us to remove this guesswork and train with precision...allowing the nervous system to be the guide. - - Instead of just using percentages, #VBT uses bar or movement speed to determine what load should be used each day, when you should conclude a set and what your true 1RM is on each individual day. The velocity of the movement then dictates what physical trait is being developed. - - You must be moving the appropriate load at the appropriate velocity to develop the desired trait. - - See more

16.01.2022 GymAware increases motivation We’ve seen this time and time again, when athletes have a benchmark e.g 0.9 m/s they will try as hard as possible to get over the target and won’t be satisfied until they do gymaware.com

16.01.2022 Sub-maximal 1RM testing and Force Velocity Profiling with GymAware! Ensuring that maximum effort is applied to each and every lift, we can plot each rep on a curve and predict athletes 1RM (with only lifting up to 80% of their 1RM). Sub-maximal testing is popular among coaches because it gives them an indication of athletes strength levels, without risking injury or fatigue. ... The protocol starts at 50% of 1RM and works all the way up to 80%. Here’s an example protocol if an athletes 1RM was 100kgs. Set 1 50kgs 3 reps Set 2 60kgs 3 reps Set 3 70kgs 2 reps Set 4 75kgs 2 reps Set 5 80kgs 1 rep We recommend about 2-3 mins of rest in between sets. The sets and reps will stay constant for any athlete, what will change is the weight, so adjust that accordingly and run your athletes through it. The good thing about GymAware is that you can have multiple people doing the same 1RM test at the same time. The report is generated later in the GymAware cloud. If you aren't a cloud user, there are plenty of resources out there that allow you to do this process manually. @kabukistrength have this free version on their website. https://kabukistrength.com/the-autoregulation-book-of-meth/ @guscooke_liftersleague is also an excellent resource in the application of Force Velocity Profiling and just recently hosted a webinar on it. 15.01.2022 Repost** @litt_strength Velocity tracking is one of my favourite external cues. The instant feedback it can give athletes is huge, and can be especially helpful for analytical minds that like to see quantifiable outputs. 11.01.2022 Repost by Dr Eddie Jo* Quantitative/objective feedback, or "augmented feedback" during training is one of the most underutilized tools in strength and conditioning. The latest research has shown rep-by-rep objective performance feedback to be an effective method for athletes to maximize their potential during a training bout compared to verbal qualitative feedback or no feedback. . The question of whether this enhancement in workout performance with augmented feedback transla...tes to superior training adaptations as assessed by various performance tests. . A recent study by Weakley et al. examined the effects of objective rep-by-rep feedback across 4 weeks of training on a variety of performance measures versus no feedback in trained rugby players. Feedback on barbell velocity, jumping distance and sprint times were provided to athletes in the augmented feedback group during each workout for the 4 weeks. The data evealed that the incorporation of augmented feedback results in superior performance outcomes especially related to strength, power, and velocity. . The results of this study can be interpreted several ways: 1) rep-by-rep augmented feedback enhances training adaptations in athletes for performance measures related to strength, power, and velocity, 2) the absence of rep-by-rep feedback may compromise the efficacy of a training program, and 3) athletes may not always exert their max effort during each rep and thus providing quantitative assessment and feedback can be viewed as accountability. . This is not all to say qualitative assessment and feedback is inferior or ineffective. Rather, quantitative assessment and feedback can be a very useful training tool. The art is to incorporate both qualitative and quantitative feedback to best maximize the athletes' potential and their training sessions. For more information head to our website: gymaware.com

01.01.2022 Feature Friday TIMEOUTS We're back with Feature Fridays! This week we look at 2 important timeouts... Auto Record Timeout Just as the GymAware system detects the start of the movement, it also detects the end and will stop recording automatically. This feature is called auto record timeout which basically means that once no movement is detected, you don’t have to touch anything to end the set. Coaches love this feature because it improves the efficiency of the session and reduces the amount of interaction with the iPad or the PowerTool. This timeout is adjustable and can be modified to suit your training. If there is any delay between reps, for example you might be doing heavy doubles, you’ll want to go ahead and adjust this out to 10 seconds or so. This will stop the set ending in between reps. If you’re in a fast paced environment and need to pump through quickly, try the Timeout between 3-5 seconds. A good baseline is to set the timeout at 6 seconds, because you can always manually press stop if you want the set to end sooner. It is more frustrating to experience timeout before a set is finished, so it’s better to have the timeout setting higher if you’re unsure of what value it should be. PowerTool Timeout The 2nd type of timeout is the PowerTool Timeout. You can let the unit timeout, which means it will shut off after a period of time when no movement is detected. Please note that each system will have a PowerTool timeout that is specific to that unit. Updates are written in the firmware of the device, so if you set a timeout for one unit, you will have to update all of them individually. This timeout is shown in the Global Settings. So to set the timeout value, tap the PowerTool icon in the bottom left hand corner of the screen, and adjust the slider. It’s recommended that you have this set to at least 30 mins. These timeouts are crucial to know about and will make your GymAware experience a lot more enjoyable! Cya next week! gymaware.com
