21.01.2022 LOWER BACK PAIN About 80 percent of adults experience low back pain at some point in their lifetimes. It is the most common cause of job-related disability and a leading contributor to missed work days. In a large survey, more than a quarter of adults reported experiencing low back pain during the past 3 months. Patients (and physicians) tend to get fixated on diagnoses. Diagnoses is important for those with a serious illness (tumour, tear, fracture). These patients need to b...e managed appropriately. However, 50 percent of all normal and asymptomatic adults have at least one herniated disc. At times, diagnoses can be misleading and puts the patient in a psychologically disadvantaged position. The body will have several impairments that need to be treated for long term results. There needs to be a shift in educating and explaining the ROOT CAUSE of the pain! 20.01.2022 PHYSIO MACHINES There are so many forms of treatment and machines it is hard to keep up! Some include: - TENS... - Ultrasound - Shockwave - Dry needling - Cupping - And the list continues! Unfortunately, these machines ONLY provide symptom relief. It does NOT address the ROOT cause of the problem! If this is your only form of treatment, you should reconsider your therapist. If these modalities are used in conjunction with education, exercises, stretches, addressing biomechanical impairments and correcting movement patterns then it is ok. In my opinion, these machines serve temporary/short term benefits so I stay away from them. I stand by correcting the ROOT cause for long term results! 18.01.2022 SHOULDER INJURIES The shoulder joint, just like the hip joint, is a ball and socket joint. Its great because of its ability to move in every direction but also making more vulnerable to injury. The most common type of injury to the shoulder is called "Impingement Syndrome". Again, lets not get so focused on diagnoses but rather look at the body as a WHOLE.... We live in such a flexion based society where we are always slumping and rounding forward. This reduces the space within the shoulder joint causing a "pinch". This is due to inflammation of structures (bursa and tendon). To mention just a few... - The heart beats over 100 thousand times a day - You breath about 23-thousand times a day - You blink about 15-thousand times a day... - Of the 118 known elements, the human body has 24 of them How is this related to pain?
