23.01.2022 To celebrate the final day of Australian Organic Awareness Month we would like to share one more of our great Organic offerings with you. From the Cooperativa Agroecologica Instrial Juan Santos Atahualpa In Peru, this coffee was grown by 413 farmers who are members of the CAIJSA Coop in Chanchamayo, an area that is famous for high-quality coffees. The group was established on October 16, 2011, with 20 pioneering partners in Santo Domingo, Kokari, 35 km from the Pichanaki dis...trict. It was founded due to the lack of sufficient supporting services in the local coffee supply chain. As a cooperative, it was established for the benefit of the partners and the collective development of the organisation. The cooperative has a number of development and sustainability goals and initiatives that it maintains. They include improvement of their production methods and processing techniques, to better market their coffee, and to maintain the standards required of them by the many certifications they possess, including Fairtrade, Organic, Rainforest Alliance, and UTZ. Coffee was introduced to Peru during the 18th century, however didn't become a prominent exporter of the crop until much later. It is now one of the top producers of Arabica in the world. Bennetts have an extensive range of Organic Coffees. Please get in contact with us for more information. #bennettscoffee #bringingyoutheworldofcoffee #certifiedorganic #australiancertifiedorganic #AOAM #organic #greencoffee #coffee #peru

23.01.2022 Central America has been hit by both Hurricane Eta and Hurricane Iota this week. In Guatemala, Nicaragua and Honduras the storms have resulted in mass flooding with towns under up to three metres of water. We will do our best to keep you informed on the situation over the coming weeks as the full extent of the damage is yet to be assessed. Our thoughts go out to all of our friends and producer partners who have been affected. #guatemala #nicaragua #honduras #hurricaneeta #hurricaneiota #flooding #coffee #bennettscoffee

23.01.2022 In recognition of Australian Organic Awareness Month, we wanted to highlight one of our favourite organic coffees PNG Fairtrade Organic Purosa. Nestled in the Eastern Highland Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea, is the Highlands Organic Agriculture Cooperative (HOAC) one of the oldest Organic Fairtrade Certified organisations in Oceania. Currently consisting of 2,600 members, the cooperative is estimated to directly benefit over 50,000 people. One of the major concern...s for the Organic Fairtrade growers and the local communities in the area around HOAC is poor road access. To address this problem a proportion of HOAC's Fairtrade Premium was allocated to the improvement of the local roads and to cover the cost of the petrol to run the grading machines. The improvement in the road network has bettered access to market and hence improved business for small coffee farmers, while also allowing better access to education and health services for locals. The maintenance of the roads is done by local residents that live along and near to the roads, providing them with much needed paid work. Education for the next generation is a key concern for the farmers. This is not surprising when you consider that only 50% of Papuans have had three or more years of education. The Okapa region has often been overlooked by government for basic health and education services due to its remote location. Over the past few years HOAC have been working to rectify this by investing Fairtrade Premiums into purchasing textbooks and desks for community schools as well as building new schools for different communities. To date, HOAC have built 4 permanent elementary schools and teacher accommodation. If you want to get your hands on this amazing coffee, please contact our team. #bennettscoffee #bringingyoutheworldofcoffee #certifiedorganic #australiancertifiedorganic #AOAM #organic #greencoffee #coffee #paupanewguinea

21.01.2022 In 2018 the Rainforest Alliance and UTZ joined forces to build an alliance to create a better future for people and nature by making responsible business the new normal. The Rainforest Alliance works in more than 70 countries at the centre of business, agriculture and forests. By bringing diverse allies together they are making deep-rooted change on some of our most pressing social and environmental issues. Rainforest Alliance is all about changing the way the world produces,... sources and consumes. Together with farmers, forest communities, companies, and consumers we can create the positive change we all want to see. Let’s work together towards a future where ‘positive consumption’ is the new normal, by engaging with consumers to make a change in their lifestyles and commit to making better choices a habit. #RainforestAlliance #FollowTheFrog #WeThriveTogether #ActOnClimate #bennettscoffee #bringingyoutheworldofcoffee #greencoffee See more

19.01.2022 Continuing Australian Organic Awareness Month, we are showcasing two great Organic Coffees from Honduras. We have both honey and natural process coffees from Finca Liquidambar, in the San Marcos municipality of western Honduras. The farm spans 56 hectares; 28 of which are planted with established coffee in production, and 14 hectares with new plantings and prunings. The remaining 14 ha is under natural forest. The farm is organically certified and cultivates pacas, catuai, i...catu, pacamara, parainema, and IHCAFE90 varieties. All the coffee is handpicked during harvest by trained pickers, careful to only select ripe fruits. It is then transported to the house of one of the owners of Finca Liquidambar for processing. Coffees destined to be pulped and washed are done at the house, and the next day it are taken to a drying plant to be dried on raised African beds. This process takes between 12 to 15 days depending on the ambient temperature. The natural processed lots are taken straight to the drying station where they are dried either a patio or raised African beds for 25 to 35 days. When the coffee has reached the desired moisture level of 12 percent it is sent to Beneficio Santa Rosa to be prepared for export. All of the processes undertaken at Finca Liquidambar are managed with environmental responsibility. The coffee waste is re-purposed to make organic fertiliser and the water is treated before being released back into the environment. The farm employs 18 permanent workers and 12 seasonal workers. All employees are provided with fair working conditions including housing, sustenance and healthcare. #bennettscoffee #bringingyoutheworldofcoffee #certifiedorganic #australiancertifiedorganic #AOAM #organic #greencoffee #coffee #honduras

18.01.2022 Did you know that tree frogs are an indicator species? The presence of the frog is a positive sign that a natural ecosystem is balanced and thriving. That’s why our products carry the Rainforest Alliance frog seal. It shows that the producers we work with are taking steps to make their products more sustainable, creating a better future for people and nature. #RainforestAlliance #FollowTheFrog #WeThriveTogether #ActOnClimate #bennettscoffee #bringingyoutheworldofcoffee #greencoffee

16.01.2022 This month we received two special small lots from farmer Nelson Soza in Honduras. The first, Finca El Aguacate was established 25 years ago by the producer Tomas Soza Calderon and his family. In 2017 after the death of Tomas Soza, the farm was divided among his four male children, generating four lots of land and retaining the name of El Aguacate in the lot now owned by Nelson Soza Euceda, one of the four children, the plantation contains tress that are10 years old, and av...erages an annual production of 60 qq of dry parchment. The parcel of land is just 1.4 hectares, and situated at 1600 metres above seal level. After hand picking the cherry is processed and slowly over 10 days in solar dryers. The farm being some distance from Nelson’s residence means that carrying materials and organic agricultural practice is more complicated and expensive, especially during the rainy season. While the coffee is not certified organic, Nelson makes use of the coffee by-products, such as cherry skin, to make his own natural fertilizer, reducing waste and saving on costs. The farm is maintained to organic standards. The farm is located about 3 kilometers from the Nelson Soza’s residence, in a community called Las Aradas in the municipality of San Jerónimo, Comayagua, Honduras. Nelson was born in the late 1970’s, and (along with his wife) has fathered four boys, currently aged 18, 14, 11 and 5 years respectively. The cultivation of coffee for this family represents their heritage and livelihood, since more than 90% of their income depends on the sale of coffee. Nelson Soza has been an active member of the COAPROCL cooperative since November 2017, where, in agreement with his brothers, he took the place of his father Tomas Soza Calderon, who unfortunately died in October of that same year. Nelson currently serves as vice-president of the COAPROCL board of directors. #bennettscoffee #bringingyoutheworldofcoffee #honduras #specialty #greencoffee #coffee

16.01.2022 As part of Australian Organic Awareness Month, we thought we’d highlight some of our great Organic Coffees. This organically certified Uganda Bugisu has been grown and harvested as part of the Sipi Falls Coffee Project. The project was first initiated in 1999 and has grown to incorporate more than 5,000 smallholder producers who tend an area over 2000 hectares in size. Through training and extension services offered through the project, producers are encouraged to improve ag...ronomic practices in order to increase yield and improve quality. Producers practice intercropping to improve coffee quality and foster income diversification. Sipi Falls is a series of three waterfalls that lie on the edge of Mount Elgon National Park in Eastern Uganda. The areas surrounding the falls are well known for the cultivation of Bugisu Arabica, the most renowned of the Ugandan Arabicas. The coffee is grown on the slopes of Elgon mountain range in three distinct areas, namely the Mbale, Sironko, and Kapchorwa Districts, and is thus found at varying altitudes, ranging from 1300 metres in the South, climbing up to 1900 metres in the Central and Northern Districts. #bennettscoffee #bringingyoutheworldofcoffee #certifiedorganic #australiancertifiedorganic #AOAM #organic #greencoffee #coffee #uganda

07.01.2022 Today we take you to Honduras as part of our journey during Australian Organic Awareness Month. Both Fairtrade and Organically certified, AMPROCAL is an association which was set up by women to strengthen the presence of female producers in the local coffee culture. This is giving the chance for women in Honduras to showcase their highest quality coffee and take control of their own business in a country which has seen much gender inequality and strife for woman. In addition,... AMPROCAL provides teacher salaries, supplies to schools, and supports communities with sports programs via uniforms and monies to build fields. These activities really help the local communities to grow and give children fun activities to learn about teamwork and leadership. The group supports its producers with sustainable coffee production and good agricultural practices. They support producers by offering technical assistance so they are able to turn the pulp and honey water waste products into organic fertilisers and foliar sprays through fermentation. They provide producers with credit for farm maintenance, new plantations, renovation, and advance payments for coffee at accessible interest rates. This is vital for the continued growth of female coffee producers in this region and goes a long way to promote sustainability and to empower women in the region. AMPROCAL is the first in the region to be carbon neutral; they produce biogas from the waste waters of coffee which is used to power their office. AMPROCAL has over 60 members all of whom are female, they produce both wet and dry coffee processing, as well as pre-dryer, solar dryers and dry clean storage to guarantee the superior quality of coffees. This lovely women produced coffee is currently in stock. 04.01.2022 On the cupping table today we have Ethiopian Sidamo Grade 2 and Grade 4 both certified Fairtrade Organic from the OROMIA coop, landing in Australia later this year. Continuing our journey through Australian Organic Awareness Month we take a closer look at the work being done by this great group. Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (OCFCU) was founded in 1999 by 35 small certified organic co-operatives. Its members are indigenous farmers located in the vast Oromia Stat...e of southern Ethiopia. The farms are located in mountainous, rainforest areas at altitudes of 1500 - 2300 masl. The OCFCU achieved Fairtrade Organic certification in 2002, and has since grown to become the largest Fairtrade Organic coffee producer in Ethiopia. The union has over 102,000 members. Dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability and social justice within their communities. The goal of the organisation is to foster economic self-sufficiency amongst its members, to ensure that families can feed themselves when the harvest fails and famine threatens. It aims to maintain the quality of coffee production, while increasing income for farmers and strengthening the capacity of the organisation so that members are less vulnerable to external forces such as price volatility. Women hold a prominent position within all facets of the organisation and have funded the construction and operation of four local health clinics and established 56 clean water supply stations for coffee-growing communities. All members cultivate their coffee in bird and forest-friendly conditions and employ organic agricultural techniques, such as intercropping with food crops to enhance soil fertility. The ripest coffee cherries are selectively handpicked and processed to ensure superior quality. We currently have in stock Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Grade 2 from OROMIA, please get in touch for samples or stock enquiry. #bennettscoffee #bringingyoutheworldofcoffee #certifiedorganic #australiancertifiedorganic #AOAM

04.01.2022 Don’t forget! Today, 7pm: how to keep a positive mindset in these uncertain times! IWCA wants to connect, empower and advance. And since we are all struggling at the moment with these uncertain times and some even with stage 4 restrictions, we teamed up with Caterina. Caterina, a personal coach, offers a discussion for all IWCA members and friends on how to keep a positive mindset on Wednesday 19/08, 7pm. We hope that session can help you to ask any questions you have, exchange experiences and gain new inspirations for the current COVID situation. It is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice and should not be relied on as health or personal advice. But we hope it can bring you different perspectives and some motivation in these challenging times.

01.01.2022 Our second lot from Nelson Soza is grown at Finca Cerro Bonito consists of 2.8 hectares of coffee planted in 2012. The farm has an average annual production of 120 qq of dry parchment coffee. It was established by the producer Nelson Soza and his family, who is a third generation coffee producer, since his father and grandfather were engaged in the same field before him. The farm is located about 7 kilometers from the Nelson’s residence in a community called Las Aradas in ...the municipality of San Jerónimo, Comayagua, Honduras. This parcel of land is just 2.8 hectares in size, and situated at 1550 metres above seal level. After hand picking the cherry is processed and slowly over 10 days in solar dryers with multi level screens.
