17.01.2022 The number of people that tell me they can’t cut their own dogs nails always surprises me. COVID lockdowns are the perfect opportunity to start desensitising your pup to a variety of things. This is my beautiful boy, Koda. He doesn’t love getting his nails cut but we have the mutual respect and trust to get it done safely and calmly. Start by practicing handling your dogs paws when you aren’t cutting his/her nails. Start simple and build up to the task. Practise doing practical tasks when you don’t need them, that way when you do need them - there won’t be any worries (or maybe just a little bit less of a worry)!

17.01.2022 As a dog trainer, it is completely ok to not understand all techniques at certain points in your career. Neuroscience, behaviorism, emotional states are all thi...ngs I had zero (and I mean ZERO) knowledge of in the first 7 years of my career. There was also a certain point in my career, even if presented with evidence, I would have vehemently opposed and challenged the work. At the time, I couldn't comprehend the information because I hadn't heard of, seen or imagined such a thing to be true. But that didn't make it less factual or true. It was just my limited understanding of such. This is a current issue, or plague if you will, that is torturing the dog training profession at the moment. The ignorance and complete misinformation that is spewed can be overwhelming. There needs to be a serious crash course entry into this profession in order to put your hands on a dog and say you're a trainer. When you refuse to grow and learn new things, especially when it has slapped you right in the face with evidence, you really need to take a step back and reevaluate why you are training dogs. Is it to actually help them in the best, kindest, effective, most humane way possible or is it for your own ego and/or money?

10.01.2022 As a dog trainer, you can never stop learning! Any dog trainer that says they know it all is someone to steer clear of. I had the pleasure of attending a weekend clinic at Kaden’s Working Dog School in Warwick. If you are out that way I would definitely recommend going there and seeing Denise! Now for my dogs and myself to rest our feet and brains. Picture is of the very good boy Larry holding his sheep.

09.01.2022 This is not my photo but I saw it and thought it’s such a great and easy way to give your dog some enrichment! You don’t need to break the bank account with fancy enrichment items, just get creative.

08.01.2022 Quarantined? What a great time to brush up on your dog handling while you have so much free time! Loose lead walking, impulse control and retrieval are just a few things that you can work on in your own home. Stay safe and positive everyone and remember, if you feel sad and overwhelmed - give your dog a cuddle!

08.01.2022 Monday is Doggy Day Care day! Guess which are the two old timers that I taught to pose for the camera.

07.01.2022 I think this is definitely applicable to Labs!

07.01.2022 Training tip - the best way to get a good stay is DONT recall every time. I will usually recall about every 10th stay, maybe less. This is Bear showing how it’s done!

06.01.2022 Two of my new clients - Brock and Candy are 7 month old Great Danes. Brocks head is already at my chest so I think he is going to be the biggest Dane I’ve ever seen! Absolutely beautiful dogs with very dedicated parents that are wanting the best behaved giant breeds that they can be.

05.01.2022 Public Service Announcement - this is scientifically accurate.
