25.01.2022 At PI MotoGP in 2017, Broc Parkes subbed for the unwell Jonas Folger on the Tech 3 Yamaha. Same marque, different discipline for Parkes last weekend where he teamed up with Gino Rea and Axel Maurin on the Wójcik Racing Team R1 at the EWC 24 Heures du Motos. 7th place overall was enough for them to take out 1st place in the EWC Dunlop Independent Trophy for non-factory teams.

25.01.2022 Night Moves ...

25.01.2022 Flashback February 2019 and Bautista gets ready to stir the pot as he introduces the Ducati V4 to WSBK with a bang. Fast forward to the middle of the 2020, his first season on the new Fireblade and maybe he's starting to make some real progress with the Honda. There's a good post-Aragon interview with him on GPOne... https://www.gpone.com//bautista-reckons-the-honda-has-the-

24.01.2022 Another one from WSBK Round 1, 2019 at PI. Watching the top guys drift through Hayshed is seriously impressive and here's Chaz Davies keeping it neat and just a little bit sideways on his run from Siberia towards Lukey Heights on the Aruba.it Ducati.

24.01.2022 John Britten was well known for his magnificent pink and blue creation. Less well known, at least outside of NZ, was his conversion of the former Mona Vale horse stables into his home and workshop. Badly damaged in the 2011 earthquakes, the buildings have undergone an absolutely amazing renovation. To celebrate this, Tim and Isabelle Britten have produced a magnificent limited edition book 'The Britten Stables' (https://brittenshop.com/) and I was lucky enough to have this photo of Andrew Stroud on the mighty Britten included in the section on John's legacy. What a nice way to end a weird year. Happy New Year to y'all, thanks for dropping by even though I haven't had much new to share through the year.

23.01.2022 Great Britten. I've posted it before and I'll probably post it again just because ...

22.01.2022 Shooting drifts under lights at Eastern Creek was something different for a change. Thanks to Thomas Pappin for the invite!

22.01.2022 Start Line Dancing...

21.01.2022 Back in 2017, Franky Morbidelli, seen here at PI, took out the Moto2 title on a Kalex before stepping up to MotoGP at the end of the season. 2020 marks his second season with Petronas Yamaha and, after his maiden premier class win at Misano, he's currently in 7th spot just 19 points behind Dovi who leads the standings with 7 rounds raced and 8 more to go. MotoGP heads back to Circuit Marco Simoncelli for a second hit out this weekend.

20.01.2022 Eastern Creek, Turn 2, Lesson 1 - The Inside Line

20.01.2022 Another great weekend of racing at the 2020 St George MCC Dunlop Sydney 5 Hour weekend is done. The weather didn't play entirely nicely but who doesn't like a wet track? Oh yeah... Photos of the weekend will follow. First I need coffee, lots of coffee.

20.01.2022 Glenn Allerton turning and burning on the Next Gen Motorsport BMW. The team took out the 2020 Dunlop 5 Hour on Sunday with Adrian Pelegrin sharing riding duties. Will post a photo of Adrian later, it was an epic effort by a clubbie to slot into an ASBK class team and for them to come away winners...

20.01.2022 Very nasty looking crash in World Supersport Race 2 at Aragon took out two front runners, Cluzel and De Rosa, at a point where Locatelli was having to work harder than he has done in a while. The crash gave Lucas Mahias #44 the opportunity to bring the Puccetti Kawa home in second place. Fingers crossed Cluzel wasn't injured in the crash but it did look like perhaps his leg took a hard hit... Update: as per Cathy's note in comments, it's confirmed that he has broken tib & fib :-(

19.01.2022 Daisy Cutter. Got to love these longer evenings and it was good to take advantage of it to shoot the S1000XR Carbon BikeMe have on test at the moment. Not sure the Scharnhorst grey does it for me but the bike itself looks supremely capable. Boris will give you his thoughts on it in due course ...

19.01.2022 Michael Ruben Rinaldi, seen here at PI WSBK Test back in February, has been making solid progress in 2020 but the Teruel round at Motorland Aragon has given us an idea of what he's really capable of. Lead the timing charts through practice, scored second on the grid in qualifying and blew the field away to lead by 6 seconds at the finish of Race 1. Great effort from a young rider and an independent team.

17.01.2022 Can't have a Phillip Island WSBK Retro without Nicky .. #forzanicky

17.01.2022 WSBK kicks off the back half of the abbreviated 2020 season with a second weekend at Motorland Aragon. Loris Baz has announced that he's in talks for 2021 with both his current team, Ten Kate, and the factory Yamaha team who have a vacant seat with Michael VdM's departure to BMW. His decision isn't as straightforward as it might seem and, if Ten Kate can secure the same bikes as the Pata team, there's a good chance that Baz will stay where he is.

17.01.2022 For the second weekend in a row, Aragon hosts a round of WSBK and this one's being called the Teruel round after the Spanish province where the track is. Corentin Perolari is 5th on the World Supersport ladder and whilst he's out of reach of the title, he's only 4 points off Oettl in 4th and still within shouting distance of Lucas Mahias in 3rd so he'll be looking for a strong showing for Round 5.

16.01.2022 Reposting from St George MCC: ORANGE CAPED SUPER HEROES REQUIRED We are in desperate need of more Super Heroes for the upcoming Dunlop Motorcycle RR Endurance Series Rd1 Sydney 5 Hour Weekend 19/20 September Sydney Motorsport Park Without enough Super Heroes, we cannot make the event happen. Can I please ask all riders and teams to ask around to see if you can find some super heroes who are happy to don an orange cape for a day or the weekend... In return, you will get to attend the races, get the best seats in the house guaranteed, get plenty of food and drinks through out the day and they will be adored by all. To be apart of the Orange Caped Super Hero Community, please send an email to [email protected] Many thanks to all for helping spread the word and ask the question. See more

16.01.2022 99.9% of the content I post on Half Light is my own but once in a while, I make an exception. Here's one of those 0.1%. Very proud to be a little part of seeing Eastern Creek come alive after dark. Mega kudos to St George MCC, ARDC and everyone else who's made this real. Video: Steven Lam , Strider Media Sydney

16.01.2022 Congratulations to Adrian Pelegrin who shared riding duties with Glenn Allerton on the Next Gen BMW to take out the 2020 Dunlop St George MCC 5 Hour on Sunday...

16.01.2022 Classic PI. Sunshine at the front of the bike, rain at the back. They should have a different weather forecast for each corner. Leon Haslam had a solid debut year on the WSBK Fireblade in 2020; here's hoping he builds on that in 2021 and gives Honda, and new team boss Leon Camier, something to smile about ...

15.01.2022 Examination at full res suggests there is at least 2mm of wheelie happening here. In WSBK, MIE (Moriwaki) Racing and Althea Racing started 2020 with a joint effort running the new Fireblade. At the end of August, the collaboration ended, apparently amicably, with Althea leaving and MIE running Takumi Takahashi as the sole rider for the rest of the season.

12.01.2022 St George Sydney 5 Hour Race Weekend Day 2 and I'm not liking the sound of rain outside. Beau Beaton really rocked the stealth look on the North Coast V-Twins Pani yesterday. And they were quick...

12.01.2022 Didn't get to shoot the fireworks last night so here's some Matt put on for us at Eastern Creek back in July ...

10.01.2022 2014 Moto2 World Champion, Tito Rabat, seen here at PI on the MotoGP Honda, is moving to WSBK for 2021 and joining Barni Racing. Barni had a challenging season in 2020, losing Camier to injury early in the year and not finding any answers with the riders that replaced him, including Melandri who came out of retirement. Hopefully Rabat will give them some much needed experience and stability...

10.01.2022 Absolute highlight for me at PI WSBK for the last couple of years has been shooting for Toprak's social media. Really hoping that we get WSBK here again soon. Be great to shoot for him again but even if that doesn't happen, he's still a spectacular rider to follow!

10.01.2022 Rinaldi and Redding both come out of Day 1 at WSBK Round 5 in good form. Rinaldi, seen here leading the Aruba.it man out of the Hayshed at PI earlier in the year, topped the timing sheets in FP2 at Motorland Aragon with Redding around half a second back in 5th spot. Filling out the top 5 in FP2 - Rea, Davies and Bautista.

10.01.2022 Benny Baker holding the line...

10.01.2022 Life's been a little bit sideways for most of us in 2020 hasn't it?

09.01.2022 What a great weekend of WSBK racing at Aragon. Rea's consistency sees him establish a 36 point lead ahead of Redding, Lowes battled gastro to put in a 6-6-5 set of finishes and it wasn't a good weekend to be on a Yahama as Toprak, VdM and Baz all struggled. Man of the weekend was Rinaldi. No podium finishes coming into the Round, three of them including a win as the circus heads to Catalunya for Round 6 in two weeks...

09.01.2022 Aiming Point...

09.01.2022 Xavi Forés is having a tough season in WSBK but Kawasaki Puccetti Racing Team were on a high last year with Toprak. Hopefully Forés will make progress in the back half of the season. How good is it to see the independent/factory supported teams like Petronas, Pramac and LCR in MotoGP and Puccetti, GoEleven and Ten Kate in WSBK fighting for podium finishes?

09.01.2022 Marco Melandri's return to WSBK is over after 4 rounds. He retired at the end of 2019 but returned to replace Leon Camier, who had been released because of his ongoing injury problems, at Barni Racing. Melandri, seen here back in 2018, struggled on return and has admitted that he's physically unable to ride at the level he'd want to. He and the team have parted amicable, his place will be taken by Samuele Cavalieri at Barcelona.

08.01.2022 How good was it to see so many novices out there racing over the St George 5 Hour weekend?

08.01.2022 Did I change up to sixth? Or only fifth? Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself.

08.01.2022 Spotted! Weather gods played nice for us at Day 1 of the St George MCC Sydney 5 Hour Race meeting. Fingers crossed we get more of the same tomorrow...

07.01.2022 Waiting for a mate. Riders Yanni Shaw and Beau Beaton and Team Manager Jono Colovos waiting for Kane Hibberd to come in for a rider change. The lads placed a well deserved 3rd in the 5 Hour race. Great work lads. And a huge shout out to the bloke stalking the pitlane just to the right of Beau. Mick O'Brien has done so damned much to make the 5 Hour meeting what it is (bloody awesome) and as a photographer, I couldn't ask for more in the way he supports and looks out for the guys and girls with cameras...

07.01.2022 With Andrea Iannone still ineligible to race in 2021, Aprilia are on the hunt for a replacement for The Maniac in MotoGP and Chaz Davies is emerging as a real possibility to take the seat...

06.01.2022 Battle Ready...

06.01.2022 Aidan Hayes. Quick in the dry. Quick in the wet. Just quick...

05.01.2022 Note to self: Take less photos, you'll spend less time going through them afterwards. Here's a bunch from the 5 Hour weekend. There will likely be more to follow when I don't hate Photoshop quite as much as I do right now. Photos are hosted on SmugMug here: https://tinyurl.com/y2tmcvau

05.01.2022 MT Promises. Lovely day for an early morning dash out of the city to shoot the MT10SP for BikeMe. Sounds great, looks better than the original and has everything you need for some supernaked fun. Report to follow in due course on BikeMe...

04.01.2022 Looking forward to WSBK 2021, another talented South African, Steven Odendaal, takes over the prized Bardahl World Supersport seat left vacant by Locatelli stepping up to Superbikes. But what of the long term prospects for the class with the new CBR600RR being a Japan-only model and Yamaha re-classifying the R6 as a track-only bike for 2021?

04.01.2022 Kawasaki BCperformance checking the bike over after a rider change at the Sydney 5 Hour...

04.01.2022 I didn't know Neale Brumby well but when our paths did cross, he was always friendly, welcoming and appreciative of the photos I pushed to him for Heavy Duty magazine. It's only a small thing but some journos will treat the bloke with the camera like a hired help (OK I am just a hired help but that's not the point) but not Neale. Last time we met up was at the Metzeler Cruisetec launch last year and it's very sad to report that Neale passed away this week after a long battle with cancer. The tributes he's received from those who knew him much better than I did show how well he was regarded within and outside the industry. RIP Brum.

03.01.2022 2019 World Supersport champion Randy Krummenacher signed for MV in 2020 but split from the team after one round. The Swiss rider, who celebrated his 30th birthday this week, is back in WSSP for 2021 on the EAB Racing R6. He's also teaming up with Gino Rea and Sheridan Morais on the Wójcik Racing Team R1 for the EWC 24 Heures Motos at Le Mans in April.

03.01.2022 Thanks to the Shark Helmets Retro Superbikes races that ran on the dance card at the St George MCC Sydney 5 Hour meeting this weekend, we got to see Aaron Morris on the immaculate '78 TZ750 ...

03.01.2022 Just a quick time out from the Sydney 5 Hour. I'll come back to that later and probably post a gallery before the day is done.... In WSSP, Andrea Locatelli has been completely dominant. Race 1 at Catanlunya was the first time he's not been on the top step of the podium at the end of a race. He was back in the groove for Race 2, took the win and that was enough to earn him the 2020 World SuperSport championship. Will he step up to Superbikes next season?

03.01.2022 World Supers Wheelie Wednesday. Can anyone take Rea's crown this year?

02.01.2022 I was lucky enough to meet and spend a bit of time with Pierfrancesco Chili a couple of years ago at International Festival of Speed and he really is one of the nicest blokes to be around. Really sad to hear that we won't see him on a bike again, he announced yesterday that he was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease a while back but has only just now gone public.

01.01.2022 Whilst Toprak was Yamaha's top performer in WSBK in 2020, it was satellite rider Garrett Gerloff who was called up, and impressed, as a possible stand in for VR46 who was at risk of missing the European GP. Why didn't Toprak get the call up? Apparently a sponsorship clash was a deal breaker. Given that the Turkish gun is a billboard for Red Bull and the Yamaha team is sponsored by Monster Energy, that might be the problem right there...

01.01.2022 Cutting through the fog. Our shoot of the Phil Tainton enhanced Katana was cut short when Boris' back tyre copped a puncture. But all's well that ends well and the review is up online now - https://www.bikeme.tv//phil-taintons-racings-2020-suzuki-k

01.01.2022 Well bugger. Logistics and what looks like an incoming dose of really crap weather meant that tomorrow's scheduled night practice at Eastern Creek had to be called off. Put 11th December in your diary as the next night session and head over to St George Motorcycle Club FB page to take a look at next year's race calendar. WSBK might not be at PI last weekend of February but Round 1 of the St George Endurance series will be.
