24.01.2022 My tribe, my why, my gifts, my babes. These 3 not only wake me up early, but they wake me up full stop! From the instant each one was born my Universe expanded and I was burst wide open. From early on in my role as a Mum I realised I was their whole world and this made me extremely passionate about how I showed up for my kids.... Did practice what I preached? Did I follow through on my word? Did I love and back myself 100%? And the answers were a hurtful no. So I got to work on that sh*t, and am still doing so, but I made sure they saw me loving and respecting myself 1000% and forgive myself for my imperfections. So my wish for you, my 3 Angels, is that you learn to love your whole selves as early on as possible. To explore your spirituality and you keep being curious about what makes you tick. Do more of what lights you up. And always come home to Mamma for cuddles and chats, 'cos my heart is always open and unconditionally in love with you. 24.01.2022 Your Parasympathetic Nervous System is your new best friend, trust me! Last Week I asked you all if you knew the difference between your Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Nervous Systems and more than half of you didn't and were curious for more. So I made these little windows of powerful info for you to save and refer back to As a busy Mum of 3 and business owner I am often triggered into my Fight or Flight response (think paper aeroplanes being thrown at your head, todd...ler splitting an eyebrow open, raspberries squished into your beige couch, classes being planned at 11pm etc). I have learned how to marinade in my breath through almost every situation I find myself in. From giving birth to kids vomiting in my car, my most potent tool has been my ability to breathe deeply, slowly and surrenderingback into my Parasympathetic Nervous System before my body loses too much energy preparing to save my life - which is usually a dramatization of a situation let's be honest, there's no real danger in my life Tell me what triggers your Fight or Flight mode most frequently?? If you don't know,maybe pay a little attention and see when it kicks in over the next day or two... and simply B R E A T H E your way back to a calm state. 23.01.2022 G O D D E S S { pose } You are her and she is you. Without an inch of doubt, I know deep down that inside, every Woman is a Goddess. I see it in your eyes when I pass you in the street. I see it in your smile when a cheeky thought flickers in your mind. I see it in the way you move your body, floating and gliding your way about your day, running errands, changing nappies, cooking dinner, putting on your lipstick, taking care of others, sliding into bed after a mammoth day, an...d every moment in between. Yet we rarely recognise that WE are ALL Goddesses! We seem to prefer using the term to describe some exquisite being with lustrous hair, long limbs and deep green eyes we saw in a movie once. She is no more of a Goddess than you are, you just forgot about it, or turned down your volume!! So I want you to stop for a moment, close your eyes, inhale deeply - taking the breath deep into your lower limbs, visualise yourself atop a cliff....the wind blowing gently on your skin, the Sun rising slowly and illuminating your face. Your feet firmly planted in the Earth and your Heart is open, light and strong. Say to yourself 'I am a Powerful Goddess full of potential and vibrancy.' And if you can, try and hold this pose for 5 full breaths, which helps connect to the inherent inner goddess, finding a common space with the powerful feminine energy. Just like us adults, they have their emotional rollercoaster and overwhelm when it comes to their perceived challenges. It's up to us as their parents and caregivers to equip them with as many tools as possible to help them navigate the ups and downs.... . Practicing any or all of the following will go a long way to helping your child develop their self-regulation . Yoga - mindful movement Breathing exercises Meditation - guided or silent Massage - gentle or firm touch Journalling - writing down some thoughts and feelings Gratitude practice - talking about their abundant blessings. Self-reflection - recognising how they behaved and what energy they put into their day. . Practicing and building these skills together with your child is wonderful, but perhaps you haven't got the time or are unsure about where and how to start?? . That's where I can help! 20.01.2022 This is me. Brie Quartermaine. I am the face behind Half Moon Kids Yoga but I no longer want to just be known as that, because it is only part of what I do. Hence the name change. You could say that I am ready to invite you all in a little more to the rest of my wonderful life. I am real, fun, honest, warm and very much in touch with who I am and what my values, desires and talents are. I love to dance, practice Yoga, cuddle, connect, talk, play, perform, move my body and... encourage others to move theirs and to get to know themselves a little deeper through spiritual practice I really love kids, in particular my own 3 rugrats I have been obsessed with green since I can rembember I don't wear make up 363 days of the year I am married to a beautiful, humble man who holds me steady when I drift off somewhere I am an extremely loyal Capricorn who holds her friendships in the highest priority and you know I cherish you and am thinking of you because I tell you and check in on you often There's a lot more but for now I am honoured you are here as part of my community and hope that getting to know me a little better will allow me to help you and your children connect a little more, play a little more and love yourselves a little more, just the way you are. 18.01.2022 I get asked this question a lot! And as far as I know, it can be either. When I teach my mini Yogis to chant the sound of the Universe, I explain it as A U M because it allows us to stretch it out, sing it slowly and synchronise our voices, pitch and tone together so that we sound like one person singing. There's such a sweet spot and it vibrates your heart, your lips and your head. It is like a magic pill that leaves you feeling alive, clear, inspired and calm all at the... same time! When we chant 'Aum' we consciously tune into our connection with all other living beings, nature and the Universe. Sound a bit far fetched? Maybe you're a little curious? Well it's worth a try because the magic is available to everyone! It's right there waiting for you to taste it, or in this case feel it vibrating your cells. 16.01.2022 Ain't that the truth and oh so relevant right now? I have been really focusing on this with my children lately and today I had a moment where I felt I may be getting through to one of them! It's very easy to blame others for our feelings. ... Teaching kids to control their inner world really means being able to understand that thoughts and emotions come and go within seconds. They can learn not to attach to them and to use their breath and awareness to regulate their emotions. Sure, they are kids and will still experience a vast array of powerful emotions every day, but with practice, they can learn not to become stuck in a place of fear, anxiousness and overwhelm. Observing the monkey mind and it's ability to jump around is a great practice to bring awareness to the natural fluctuations of the mind and to begin to detach from thoughts and emotions. May I suggest you sit down with your child and spend 2 or 3 minutes modeling this by closing your eyes and imagining your mind is like the beautiful sky above. Each new thought that pops into your head, wrap it in a fluffy white cloud and let it roll on out of your head and off into the distance. Continue to enjoy this mediation as often as possible to encourage the art of letting go of that which does not serve us. And rememeber it's the Long Game as a parent, and every now and then we have will have little breakthrough moments and feel overcome with joy and pride! 14.01.2022 Does the amount of screen time and sitting in chairs at school worry you about your child's developing posture? Have you noticed round shoulders and a certain lack of core strength in your kids? Doctors are seeing more and more children for neck and back problems than ever before! Poor posture can become a bad habit, which is good news as good posture can be taught and maintained for life! ... The stretching and strengthening that comes with practicing Yoga Poses and sequences ensures correct anatomical alignment (posture) and core strength to maintain good posture. To check and build Core Strength: Ask your child to do a 'Boat Pose' for 10 seconds and check their core strength (see pic above) ie. can they hold it? are they shaking or do they collapse on their back without being able to hold themselves up? How to do Boat Pose Sit on the floor Lift your legs one at a time in front of you, knees can be bent or straight but make sure they are together. Bring arms up parallel to the ground Keep your chest up, don't round through your lower back Hold for 10 seconds breathing slowly Repeat 3 times every day to build core strength May I suggest you do it together? 09.01.2022 It's time to look at the Stats.... I got a little caught up in this report from the Australian Government and it made me think of my kids' little friends faces and how some of them may be experiencing overwhelming feelings of Anxiety and Sadness and Fear behind closed doors. I wanted to give them all a big hug and teach them how to Breathe their feelings through their body. I can only imagine what 2020 has done to these rates....can't you?? ... Then I remembered I am here on a mission to help as many little souls develop their skill set so that they can face their every day challenges and sometimes overwhelming emotions. So that they can feel true freedom and joy in just being kids for kids sake! And so now when I lose a little of my motivation I am going to think of all the little faces I know, have taught, have seen around schools and the World, and I'm going to keep working hard on my teachings so that they can all have the chance to be kids and do and feel kids stuff. Not big scary adult things like Stress and Anxiety. Our children deserve to feel SAFE, LOVED and that they are ENOUGH, just the way they are. A better example for our kids. Despite cultural conditioning about Vulnerability being a weakness (it's time to blow that one way out of the park) it takes deep courage to even start to open up, even to those close to you who love you for YOU! But you must. In owning your imperfections you give your chi...ld permission to do the same with theirs. This makes them feel 'safe', 'worthy' , and 'whole', just the way they are. 02.01.2022 I believe in teaching children from a young age to listen to their body when it speaks to them, because it's always speaking! From the moment a baby cries for its Mother's milk to the time a toddler throws itself on the floor in a tantrum because it is feeling overwhelmed, our body is giving us signals and asking for what it needs. . Somewhere along the way kids can lose their ability listen to their own desires, instincts, inner creativity and voice. Instead they become eas...ily influenced by what appears to be the 'right or popular' thing to do, and they follow suit. . As parents and educators I feel we need to encourage our children and students to pause and spend time connecting with their inner world's. To learn about the way their mind and body work together to create their life experience. To teach children how to nourish their WHOLE selves and develop their skill of listening to their own callings. 01.01.2022 That moment of impact. When the sunrays first kiss your face and you instantly feel illuminated and expansive.
