24.01.2022 The long list of toxic ingredients that make up a standard nail polish have frightening implications on our health and on the environment! Yikes It’s my mission to keep sourcing and creating safer alternatives to mainstream beauty products, and to find a way to make Hanami products even better - and I believe we have well and truly done that with our latest formula 'Plant Polish'! When Hanami first launched in 2016 our polishes were '7 free' meani...ng the seven harshest ingredients in nail polish were stripped out of the formula. In 2017 we removed even more of the troubling chemicals and introduced a '10 free' formula, but I still dreamt of finding a way to make Hanami nail polishes 'greener'and now we have it! Hooray for an eco polish that is gentle on you, and on the earth. Made from 82% plant derived ingredients (such as corn, cassava, cotton and sugarcane) it has a perfect 2 coat coverage, super fast dry time, and comes in every colour of the rainbow! 11.01.2022 Why should you use an acetone free remover on your nails? Acetone is a very powerful solvent and is very effective in removing nail polish, however it is a very harsh chemical to use on you nails and skin as it removes a lot of natural oils. It can have a bleaching effect on skin and nails, and cause the skin to dry out (leading to very brittle and weak nails) It is also a harsh skin, eye and lung irritant. ... Whilst there are plenty of acetone-free removers on the market, most of them still leave nails dry and brittle (due to the use of ethyl acetate in their formula) - but ours is different! How? Well, our main ingredient it.... WATER! We’ve also added moisturising agents (glycerin, vitamin e and aloe vera) to minimise any drying out effects. Instead of stripping the nail, as acetone based removers do, it rehydrates and nourishes. It's also free from the full-on odour of traditional nail polish removers, instead it smells like french vanilla! As our formula is much lower in the toxic chemicals used in other brands, you’ll need to work a little harder to remove polish from your nails. We recommend holding a remover wipe/cotton bud soaked in Hanami remover to the nail for 7 seconds, then wipe from base to tip, and repeat. And remember to always wash your hands after use.

09.01.2022 If you're new here, welcome! I'm Hannah, a self confessed coffee snob, popcorn addict, mum to a small person (and a chonky rescue cat), and I live in Melbourne's north. Since before I can remember, I've had a deep connection and concern for the welfare of animals and for the environment. I started Hanami in 2016. After spending over 10 years working in healthfood stores and clinics as a Naturopath, I realised that so many products on the ‘green beauty’ mar...ket were: made a very long way away from here (clicking up some serious carbon miles!) no cruelty free or vegan certification full of suss ingredients that could potentially be very harmful to both our health and the environment .....and so I set out to make what I couldn’t find! Bright, bold, fun and classy colours that also ticked all of the ethical boxes that are super important to me (and to you, I’m sure!) Hanami is run on land traditionally owned by the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. We have committed to pay 1% of our profits to 'Pay The Rent' 100% of this donation goes directly to Aboriginal people in Victoria. We also proudly donate a portion of our annual profits to Humane Research Australia (HRA), a non-profit organisation that challenges the use of animals in experiments and promotes the use of more humane and scientifically valid non-animal methods of research. 07.01.2022 Do you know the difference between cruelty free and vegan products? Cruelty Free No form of animal testing at any point in the products development or creation or final product. BUT sadly (and frustratingly) it is quite common for a company to not test the final product on animals, but to have tested the ingredients on animals along the way by a third-party. ... Vegan No animal ingredients in the product (such as lanolin, beeswax, honey, collagen, albumen, carmine or silk)... You'd assume that a product listed as vegan would also mean that it's "cruelty free" as well, right? Well, no - because the term "vegan" is not regulated, it's possible the products or the ingredients have been animals. Confusing huh? Look for official logos on the packaging like Choose Cruelty Free, PETA, and Leaping Bunny as well as thoroughly reading through the ingredients list for any animal ingredients.
