23.01.2022 Many wear masks at present. Don't allow the external pressure of this current demand to override basic needs. Remaining well-hydrated is a vital one. I've recently had an influx of patients presenting with headaches, linked to dehydration. Masks can be lowered to drink. It is more vital to survival. ... #osteopathy #handson #manipulation #injuries #chronicpain #painsolutions #treatment #osteowangaratta #stayhydratedfriends
23.01.2022 The amount of sleep you get, the quality of your sleep and even when you sleep have a big impact on your health. Cortisol, the stress hormone, is released to help us deal with stressful situations but not getting enough quality sleep can cause overproduction of this hormone which negatively affects our health.... Aim to get seven to eight hours of sleep each night. This is especially important to maintain during busy and stressful times of year - like right now. It will help you be at your best during the day. #osteopathy #handson #osteowangaratta #wangarattapractitioner #goodsleephabits #sleepwellness #cortisol

When Hands On reopens in January, Lenore will be fully operating in Wangaratta, which she is most excited about. ... This means additional days for treatment will be available! Keep an eye on our socials for appointment days and hours. #osteopathy #handson #osteowangaratta #wangarattapractitioner #northeastvictoria
21.01.2022 : I came across this blog by Ultimate Performance which provides some great points on the benefits of weight/resistance training for women. It's not only for fat loss and body shaping but also builds a stronger immune system, stronger mind and stronger bones. 20.01.2022 Fear is an emotion I see regularly in consultations with patients. Largely, this is likely due to the patient’s fear of the unknown including what is causing their pain, how is it causing pain and why, and when will the pain subside if at all. When a patient's fear around the diagnosis and management of their musculoskeletal condition is not discussed and addressed, anxiety can build which induces particular responses within the body.... All human emotions are valid and important, including fear. When you consult with me, you are in a safe and private space where you can express your fears and concerns if you feel comfortable doing so. It is an important part of the overall treatment process. ~ Lenore explains prognosis fright in further detail in her recent article on the subject. 19.01.2022 Love this recipe! Can prepare it ahead of time to organise yourself for the next day. 1 cup rolled oats 2 tsp white chia seeds ... 2 tsp manuka honey 2 tbsp your fave protein powder 1 cup milk of preference or water 100g of fruit (banana/blueberry/strawberry work well) Mix oats, chia seeds, honey and protein powder. Add milk and refrigerate overnight. 18.01.2022 Waiting for the ‘right’ moment to start eating better or resolving your pain issue only delays the health benefits you will gain by acting now. So ask yourself, ‘What am I waiting for?’ Why not make a start today, even if just a small step? Try swapping lunch for a more nutritionally dense option. Baby steps. Take a short walk.... The hardest part is always starting. So if you aim to do just one small thing today, you will have got over that hurdle and be on your way to the best version of yourself. #osteopathy #starttoday #changeyourthinking
17.01.2022 While much is said about maintaining our physical health, looking after our mental health is just as important if we want to achieve total health and wellbeing. 14.01.2022 Recently, I completed a mentorship with Osteopath Dr. Daniel Kirkbride. The Principles of Rehab & Performance Mentorship is a 10-week online mentorship for manual therapists, coaches and personal trainers. It delves deep into the fundamental principles of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, exercise prescription, training principles and programming. I want to extend my thanks and deep gratitude to @dr.daniel.kirkbride... The course was SO thorough and informative. The Mentorship really bridges the knowledge divide that exists between manual therapy and some in the fitness industry. The growing awareness is so vital to providing the highest quality care and results to those seeking an out from their pain. Ensuring we have sound knowledge of PRINCIPLES of anatomy and physiology COMBINED with those of training and programming is paramount. Understand the WHY and the HOW. I can't wait to adopt more of a hybrid approach with all my patients! Dan sums it up perfectly: "Your job title / description matters not. We're all in the business of dealing with the health and performance of human beings". If pain is stopping you from doing what you love, get in touch and find out how we can assist you. Bookings available via website link in bio. #osteopathy #patientfocused #wangarattapractitioner
14.01.2022 It’s definitely been a bit chilly outside lately! This can make it more difficult to maintain your exercise regime but it’s really important that you continue to move your body during the cooler months. Changing up your routine can help to keep you on track. Instead of solely outdoor activities (which are easier to put off if the weather is a bit nasty), maybe opt for something indoors like a gym or fitness class.... For that extra bit of motivation, join with a friend or colleague so you have an extra reason to commit to action! #osteopathy #exercise #movement
12.01.2022 : Between the hip and the foot, the knee is the connection. Forces from the ground upwards and the pelvis downwards influence the knee's biomechanics. 11.01.2022 & -- Practice this abdominal breathing method before sleep for a good night's rest and first thing in the morning during meditative practice to start your day right Abdominal breathing can be achieved by breathing DOWN into the lungs (imagine air filling crumpled paper bags in your chest; they fill and expand downward as you breathe in). Try not to breathe into the upper chest, where the shoulders rise. When performed correctly, the abdomen rises s...lightly, with mild outward expansion of the ribs. Breathe in deeply/inspire for a count of 4 seconds. Hold for 2 seconds. Breathe out/expire for 4 seconds. This breathing method quietens the sympathetic response (fight/flight response) in our bodies, stimulating parasympathetic activity (rest/digest response). This produces a greater sense of calm. In particular, it reduces heart rate and blood pressure. #osteopathy #osteowangaratta #wangarattapractitioner #northeastvictoria #breathingexercises #breathwork

08.01.2022 : ' Ground reaction force derives from Newton's 3rd Law in Physics, which basically states that if a force (an action) acts upon a body, an EQUAL and OPPOSITE force (a reaction), must act upon a body. It is also an important concept in biomechanics and is the force exerted by the ground on the body in contact with it. A person standing statically on the ground exerts a contact force on the... ground equal to the person's weight. There is also an EQUAL and OPPOSITE ground reaction force (GRF) exerted by the ground on to the body upon it. The GRF will also have a component parallel to the ground, for example when the person is walking a motion that requires the exchange of horizontal (frictional) forces with the ground. Knowing this reciprocal force distribution, the SURFACE we spend much of our time on matters too, as does how long we are on our feet for. It's important to consider this as we move towards more time being spent on our feet at sit-stand desks in administrative roles. Back pain associated with work is about twice as common in employees who stand compared to those who usually work sitting, according to studies. Other health implications include bunions, varicose veins and knee/hip/ankle joint issues. #osteopathy #handson #manipulation #patientfocused #bodyfunction #muscletension #painmanagement #chronicpain #painsolutions #paineducation See more

04.01.2022 In clinic, I aim to provide a patient-centred, biopsychosocial approach when treating patients. Biopsychosocial considerations are taught in osteopathic training; it is a view of a patient's presentation that encompasses biological, psychological and social factors. This focus is founded on accepting these factors and their impact on the body and, in turn, the body's impact on these factors. With this knowledge, I treat the whole person, not just their signs and symptoms. Me...dically, it is a vital part of my osteopathic practice. The need to understand my patients at their presentation, and beyond this, is very high. Their current health, and all the ways in which it may become optimal, is a priority. Take care, Lenore Want to know more? Email or dm me and I'd be happy to answer your questions. 04.01.2022 Lenore has completed training to apply visceral techniques. Viscera derives from Latin: viscus = "inside of the body". Visceral technique is a form of indirect osteopathic technique used to treat organs (viscera). This manipulation technique, combined with osteopathic principles and philosophy, can be beneficial for treating a number of visceral conditions including period pain and associated musculoskeletal symptoms. ... 04.01.2022 : The elbow joint is a hinge joint that provides great stability and range of motion for performing activities. Muscles that extend across the elbow joint bring about actions like flexion, extension, supination and pronation. We use the hands/wrists and shoulders several hundred times a day and, as such, they are common regions where musculoskeletal issues may surface. The elbow provides the connection between these important parts that make u...p the upper limb it's the quiet middle-man that soldiers on without complaint. Now imagine trying to complete movements of the upper limb without your elbow. Imagine there was little to no range of motion available. This would make things very difficult! The elbows need care after a day of repetitive use. Use the below stretches to lengthen and strengthen the flexors and extensors of the arm. Flexor stretch: Hold the palm of one hand with the other hand, while keeping your elbow straight. Pull your hand back gently to feel a stretch in the forearm. Hold the stretch for 20-30 seconds. Extensor stretch: Extend one arm out with your elbow straight. Use the other hand to grasp it at the side of the thumb and bend the wrist downward. Hold the stretch for 20-30 seconds. #osteopathy #injuries #chronicpain #painsolutions #treatment #patients #patientfocused #osteowangaratta #wangarattapractitioner #flexor #extensor #elbowpain
