25.01.2022 A reminder to all, registration is now open for the WA State hang gliding comps in 2018. Entry fees have been held steady for 2018 at $110 for entry and $350 for aerotows. This is a non refundable early bird entry fee if paid before Christmas. After 25th December the price goes up to $160 and $400. The comp is open to all hang glider pilots (ground tow and aero tow) and we normally run a ground tow weekend prior to the comps.... This year we are hoping to see a team from the new SW club. The more the merrier. Come on up and join in the fun. More info can be found at http://www.goldfieldsdustdevils.com/infomation.html and the entry form can be found here http://www.goldfieldsdustdevils.com/register-here.html . Richo

25.01.2022 Registration is open for the WA comps. All info can be found on the link below. The comp dates are 25th February 2017 till 4th March 2017. Good news is we are offering aerotowing again this year with Gavin Penfold and Simon Shuttleworth. Again significant savings are offered if you register and pay before Christmas. Do not worry if you do not have a team. Just register. We always seem to find a home for everybody.... For myself I see the comps as a great opportunity to spend 8 days flying cross country with your mates, to learn more about hang gliding and to get some much needed airtime. See you there. http://www.goldfieldsdustdevils.com/register-here.html

23.01.2022 Hi Guys and Gals, Earlier this year HGAWA purchased a defibrillator for Mount Bakewell. It is also expected that it will be borrowed for fly-ins at Albany, Geraldton and Westonia. If needed the defibrillator can be found on Lou's front porch. Lou will take it inside at night for safe keeping and bring out if people are flying. As nobody would go up the hill without first checking in with Lou this should be a foolproof procedure. Richo

21.01.2022 WA Comps Pre Practice Day Friday It’s a bit of a trike fest up hear with 4 trikes in the hangar. A few of us early birds lined up for a tow behind Gavin and Simon. A task was set, Datum Merredin Hynes Hill. The most important thing to note is that I made goal and beat Jason Kath who landed at Merredin. This may be the last time I beat him during the comp so I may as well let everybody know. Richo... Practice Day Saturday It was a bit breezy but the wind dropped off giving everybody a chance to fly. We finished a couple of ground tow endorsements and 2 novices, Michael Cassells and Paul Broad had very good flights. We had an early nomination from the Perth Dusties for the Boguki award. Their driver drove over 300km for a 30km retrieve. When entering GPS coordinates into the GPS it is very easy to make mistakes which can be big. Day 1 Sunday The trough is directly overhead and strong wind is forecast. The task committee is optimistic and call a 79.4km task heading SW from Datum RDBEND SROAD Emu Fence. Rolf calls the day at 1:30. The weather for Monday is looking windy the rest of the week is looking good.

21.01.2022 Christmas for hang glider pilots. Is your partner asking you what you want for xmas? The answer is registration at the WA hang gliding championships. I want to spend 8 days cross country flying with my mates and its cheaper if paid before Christmas. Go to http://www.goldfieldsdustdevils.com/register-here.html to register. And have a great Christmas. Richo

20.01.2022 Victor Hare has just flown 334km from Cater Farm to Ravensthorpe. A new WA state record. On the way he also picked up the declared goal record, 265km, and a huge PB.

18.01.2022 Pootanup aerotow week The Pootanup aerotow week will be held 19th 29th September. This is your best opportunity to gain an aerotow endorsement or simply shake out some rust coming into the warmer weather. There will be 3-4 tug pilots present, as well as SSO’s to help you get that aerotow endorsement. Many of us will just drive down and have a fly.... The event covers 2 weekends as well as weekdays so why not come on down, get your endorsement, enjoy the flying, enjoy the scenery of the Stirling Ranges, and some great company. This year HGPAWA is supporting the event so tows will only cost $15 each. This is another fun flying event brought to you by the HGPAWA and the Albany Hang Gliding and Paragliding Club.

17.01.2022 STOP PRESS Major new prize at the WA Comps. The Sport Class Champion in 2017 at WA will receive sponsorship from Moyes to compete at Forbes in 2018. This sponsorship will be for entry fee and aerotows and is worth at least $700. Go here to enter http://www.goldfieldsdustdevils.com/register-here.html Many thanks to Moyes Gliders. A major sponsor for WA 2017. And many thanks to Vicki Mannering for organising this.

13.01.2022 A reminder to all. There is a defibrilator stored at Lou's at the bottom of Mt Bakewell. In the unlikely event it is ever needed it can be found on Lou's porch to the left of where you enter the gate. This is another HGPAWA safety initiative.

03.01.2022 Parachute repack night, If you are interested I will pass on the numbers to Aussie. Hi everyone, I am organising another Parachute Workshop for January this year, and trying to work around other comps and activities. I propose the date of Wednesday the 18th Jan for the evening, which the venue will be the Ernallidayhttps://www.dsr.wa.gov.au/camps/locations/ern-halliday basketball courts at Hillarys. There is a possibility that we may be able to run the flying fox and practis...e deployment of chutes, though through their duty of care responsibilities, they will need to supply a supervisor for this which, of course will come at a cost. We will see how it pans out. So, I envisage that we will set up a screen of some sort and have some u tubed videos to demonstrate the packing of your chute, and hopefully some experienced blokes will show up and assist others in the deployment and repacking of our chutes (Shaun and Simon were particularly helpful in this regard last year). This is not a night where you can show up, and expect to get your chute packed for you and you go home feeling all ready to bail out at wondrous heights. Its about learning about your chute, inspecting it, getting all touchy feely with it and packing it back . The more times you do this, the easier it will become. So, if you'd like to become chute savvy, or share your knowledge and experience with those of us who are limited in that area please give me an indication of your availability on the 18th. If that night is too inconvenient for everyone, we can look at another, keeping in mind that no one night will never please everyone All the best and safe and happy flying Aussie 0427503169
