25.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS Those who know our instructor Warwick know hes a pretty humble guy. He has recently mastered the one handed cartwheel. At seventy-something. He trains in martial arts for ~8hrs a week. And has done so for decades. But not many people know that he was the FIRST Australian to earn a black belt (one of many he now has) under the Australian Hapkido Association, waaaaaay back in 1983. Two of his old students, Master Matt Geister and Master Ron Rees now head up ...the Australian Hapkido Association. And when they came to our school to train with us last weekend, they noted that although it was over 30 years ago when he earned his first black belt under the AHA, the quality of his teaching and his understanding and technical knowledge of Hapkido has unknowingly run parallel with the association for several decades. So after 30 years apart, we have now come full circle. Thanks to Warwick and Russell - for their enthusiasm, knowledge and sheer passion for Hapkido. And to Master Geister and Master Rees for welcoming us so enthusiastically, we are delighted to announce that Hapkido Hosinsul has now officially joined forces with the Australian Hapkido Association #FullCircle

24.01.2022 This week we were honoured to welcome back Sensei Darren on the mats for some more ground defence Street Style. Sensei Darren has an extensive martial arts background and is currently an instructor at Tohkon Ryu Ju Jitsu here in Brisbane. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with us Sensei and we hope to see you back on the mats again soon!

23.01.2022 Classes recommence tomorrow! Monday 13/07 at 7pm. And we cannot wait

23.01.2022 TWO Hosinsul-ers have been spotted out and about in the wild! They are an incredibly rare sight in Tasmania and were captured in a single frame by the nature-cam along the shore of Dove Lake. No one is really sure what Russ and Ali were doing all the way out here so far from home, but some believe they may have been learning stealth-like defence techniques from the original drop-bear, the Spotted Quoll...

23.01.2022 She only went and did it! Huge congratulations Junna on your new blue belt! Well deserved

22.01.2022 As you may have seen, we recently joined forces with the Australian Hapkido Association and we were thrilled to join them down in Sydney for their Black Belt grading over the weekend. Grand Master Matthew Kim was on the panel along with Warwick and the other Masters of the AHA, and it happens to be a 30 year reunion for Warwick and Grand Master Kim which was an added bonus to the trip! Congratulations to all of those who graded - those stripes were well deserved over 4 tough ...hours. You all did extremely well and it was fantastic to be able to join in and assist with your grading. And a big thank you to Master Matt Geister for your warm hospitality. It was a brilliant weekend all round, making new friends and catching up with old ones

21.01.2022 75 years young, and still showing us how it’s done! Happy Birthday Warwick

21.01.2022 If you're curious about Hapkido but aren't too sure what to expect, we shot this video of short snippets from some of our classes to give you a flavour of Hapkido Hosinsul. To get a real feel for what we get up to though, you're more than welcome to come along and see for yourself. And if you fancy joining in, the first two classes are free! Mon & Wed, 7-9pm Rainworth State School, Bardon.... www.hapkidohosinsul.com.au https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8mJ9lFa_4I

20.01.2022 We love it when old students pay us a visit. Especially the ones who drive for 8 hours to come train with us! Rach started her Hapkido journey with us back in 2014 and graded with us to blue belt. Then her career took her south of the border where she continues training under Master Ron Rees at Central Coast Hapkido and under Craig and Mick at Redhead Hapkido. She drove up from Newcastle to pay us a visit and although the majority of the club hadnt seen her for over 4 years..., it was like shed never been away. See you next time Rach! (And although it looks like a friendly embrace, Ali is pretty sure shes lining her up for a minor outer reap into a choke hold... shes been trained well )

19.01.2022 Happy birthday to the legend that is Russ. Without you, its safe to say there would be no Hapkido Hosinsul. Thanks for being an all round awesome instructor and an inspiration to all your students. We cant wait for the world to resume normal services, and all get back on the mats again. Even if that means the Five Minute Warmups become a weekly regular again. Secretly? We miss them. Happy birthday

19.01.2022 Another Hosinsul-er has been spotted out and about! This time, it was Charlotte at the Oberaletsch glacier in Switzerland. Its becoming clear our tees and hoodies like to travel far and wide!

18.01.2022 Before the Enter the Dragon, and Above the Law; there was Billy Jack (Tom Laughlin) - trained with Bong Soo Han, instructor of the U.S. Green Beret detachments ...in Hapkido (Korean martial arts) during the Vietnam conflict. This is a groundbreaking movie. A timeless classic, the first pacifistic martial arts action drama film that was the first independently produced into main stream movie. Distributed by Warner Bros. Billy Jack is a great movie and a great hero of and for American liberties. Billy Jack (Mr. Laughlin) embodied what it means to be a true martial artist. See more

18.01.2022 Them: Wooooo! More petrol! More petrol! More petrol! Also them: Look at those flames!! LOL!! But no one is crazy enough to actually jump through that!! James: Hold my beer.... Them: .... If ever anyone questioned the practical use of a jumping cat roll in the real world. #DontTryThisAtHome

17.01.2022 Happy Birthday To Us!! Nine years ago Warwick and Russ decided to join forces to create Hapkido Hosinsul - a self defence based martial arts school built on decades of their martial arts experience. For those there from the beginning? That’s nearly 2,000 hours on the mats! And what better way to celebrate things than with a session at @urbanxtremeoz!... Thank you for 9 epic years of training Russ and Warwick, and here’s to the next 9 See more

15.01.2022 Well! Thats a wrap! And what an epic year it has been. From road trips around the country; to a heap of brilliant gradings from our students; to welcoming guests and new friends on the mats; meeting up with old training buddies; and joining forces with the Australian Hapkido Association. What a year! But, its time to air the doboks for a few weeks, ice and rest up, and recharge for 2020!... From our extended Hapkido family to yours, we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a very happy new year! See more

15.01.2022 Wow! What a weekend! We were delighted to share our mats with Master Ron Rees, Master Matt Geister and Melissa Rees this weekend for EIGHT hours of black belt training! They flew up to Brisbane and we spent our time sharing our knowledge of Hapkido and exchanging ideas... whilst building up a big sweat and getting a good workout. Thank you for spending your weekend training with us guys. We had a fantastic time and youre most welcome to come back on the mats any time

14.01.2022 Flashback... Thursday? Well, we couldnt wait to share this little nugget! When we say our instructors at Hapkido Hosinsul have a lot of experience, this is what we mean! Full on, legitimate and extensive experience that spans nearly 40 years for Warwick alone. Taken sometime in the early 80s this is Warwick (and Grand Master Matthew Kim) back in the day when jumping cat rolls and whip throws were done on wooden floors, and no one had really heard of Hapkido. Th...is is a moment in time, right back where it all began here in Australia. Thanks to this gang, a lot more people know about Hapkido today. And thankfully nowadays we are offered an inch of foam to slightly soften the falls. See more

13.01.2022 We love it when our old students are back in town and swing by and say hi. As always Shannon, it was great to see and train with you again! Youre welcome back on the mats any time

13.01.2022 Hapkido Hosinsul was on the road again! Awesome black belt session with Master Geister last night down in Murwillumbah Hapkido! Thanks for having us!

13.01.2022 A bit of fun for a Flashback Friday - some 540 action circa 2018 curtesy of Sean. We all cannot wait for the school to open again. But till then, keep moving, stay healthy, and have a think about some skills you can practice in your back garden. If youre keen, there are some pretty cool 540 tutorials from various martial artists and stuntmen / women on YouTube - ping us a PM if you need some inspo

12.01.2022 Afternoon everyone, Hope that everyone has been enjoying coming back to Hapkido. Todays video is covering the low spinning heel kick.... Firstly, Master Geister will be demonstrating the first version of the low spinning heel kick while Master Tamanini will be covering a slightly different version of this kick. 11.01.2022 COVID restrictions are still in place in Qld, but some modified bootcamp-style hapkido training in the park is allowed. So Russell is improvising and has been keeping us motivated for the past few weeks. Something is most definitely better than nothing for the time being! Saturday mornings 0900, Frew Park. Everyone (and their dogs!) welcome. ... Normal classes look likely to resume 13th July. And. We. Cannot. Wait.

11.01.2022 Master Matt Geister and Master Ron Rees exchanging their knowledge with us in Brisbane, one of the many advantages of being part of a larger group.

10.01.2022 Specialist Workshop - save the date! Wed 13th Feb We are delighted to welcome Sensei Darren back on the mats, this time to host a workshop on practical self defence in vehicles and car parks.... There are often distractions in car parks like Where did I put the ticket? and a shopping trolley with one wheel that is determined to go left. All of which may mean we arent fully aware of our surroundings and may leave ourselves a tad vulnerable. We talk in class about defending ourselves with the added complications of things like tight spaces and no easy escape routes. Well, not wanting to give too much away, but this workshop will be held in the car park.

09.01.2022 Merry Xmas from Brisbane Hapkido Hosinsul

09.01.2022 Adapt to your environment - something thats important in Hapkido. So we did. Our car park safety workshop was rained off last night, so we pivoted, adapted, and took it indoors instead. (The workshop that is, not the car!) Sensei Darren modified our class and focussed on close contact and defending yourself appropriately if someone comes inside your fighting arc. In Hapkido we like to keep our distance. But on the street? People dont play by the dojo rules. Another awesome workshop and we really appreciate you imparting your knowledge Sensei Darren! Hope to see you on the mats (or in the car park!) again soon!

09.01.2022 Our Kwang-jang nim is also now officially a Sensei! Warwick’s fresh belt may be practically invisible against his black uniform, but it was earned over a 10 year period with Tohkon Ryu Jujitsu, Brisbane. His grading was performed over several nights and included written submissions - it certainly was an epic achievement and his knowledge and experience in Jujitsu most certainly enriches our classes at Hapkido Hosinsul.... Along side him here is Shihan Mark Haseman (principal instructor) with Second Dans, Walter and Jack. Massive congratulations Warwick. Your new belt was VERY well earned

08.01.2022 Its true. We cant quite believe it. But we are stoked that we will be resuming training next week! Its been a very long 4 months thats for sure... There will be a few minor modifications and protocols to follow as per government guidelines, and well be keeping a close eye on those things to ensure were all safe and training responsibly. (And by that we mean with regards to COVID. If you want to cat roll over 5 chairs on your first night back? You go for it! )... But we will be back on the squeaky clean mats on Monday. And we. Cant. Wait. Where? Rainworth State School, Bardon When? Monday 13th July, 7pm for a 7:15 start See you there!

07.01.2022 If youre curious about Hapkido but arent too sure what to expect, we shot this video of short snippets from some of our classes to give you a flavour of Hapkido Hosinsul. 07.01.2022 Were on. at last!

06.01.2022 A huge thank you to Senior Instructor Dom and our AHA family down in Mullumbimby for inviting us to join their Black Belt training session this weekend. We haven’t seen these guys for 12 months due to COVID restrictions here in Australia, and it was great to reconnect with our friends and fellow instructors from several dojangs along the east coast. Lots to learn. Lots to share. And lots of sweat! Thank you for a great morning and hopefully see you all again soon!

05.01.2022 Based on current government advice to help flatten the curve, Hapkido Hosinsul will be closed for the next two weeks.
