24.01.2022 Our body changes as we age, becoming more rigid as we collect candles on our birthday cake. Think about newborn babies. They have ultimate mobility and flexibility but very little strength. As we age, we gain stability but begin to lose our flexibility and mobility. As we follow the flow and arc of ageing, the forms of exercise that we need change as our body undergoes physiological shifts. We moved from needing yang exercises when we are young to build strength. We find a ...balance in our thirties and then transition to needing more Yin forms of exercise to increase mobility as we age. We offer daily Yin classes to help stretch out the connective tissues and help increase and maintain mobility in the more mature body. 23.01.2022 After all the muggy summer weather, I have noticed my Pitta getting a little overactive. Pitta is the fire element and the embodiment of rajas. When Pitta is balanced, we experience vigour and luminosity, which keeps our minds bright and sharp. When Pitta is Is overactive, we can become irritable, inflamed and restless. Too much dynamic action, busyness and striving can aggravate Pitta. Add in hot and muggy weather and you might find yourself feeling a little out of so...rts this summer. Yin yoga is the perfect way to ground your fire and create the stillness to bring you back into focus, clarity and peace. The slow pace and long holds allow the body to sink deep and the mind to quiet. Come try out the beauty of Yin yourself

22.01.2022 Exciting news! I have been completing Chakradance training for the past few months and it’s time to make my demo video to submit as my assessment! The following YouTube video shows a mini class. The actual class is more like 60 to 90 minutes long. ... During the course of the night, participants will have the opportunity to join in an opening Meditation based around the chakra, the seven chakra dance, the focus chakra dance and have the opportunity to produce a piece of Mandela art. All art supplies will be provided. I will be running at class centered around the base chakra and are looking for volunteers to participate at the studio at 7 pm on Wednesday night. It will be recorded but fear not! The only people who will see the video of the two assessors (and they are only watching for my facilitation skills) So Who is game for an amazing dance/transformation experience this Wednesday night? 16.01.2022 Linda shared this beautiful reading at the end of class on Thursday and I thought I would share it wilts your all.... I love this analogy! You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere. Why did you spill the coffee? ... "Because someone bumped into me!!!" Wrong answer. You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup. Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea. *Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out.* Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It's easy to fake it, until you get rattled. *So we have to ask ourselves... what's in my cup?"* When life gets tough, what spills over? Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility? Anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions? Life provides the cup, YOU choose how to fill it. I’ve committed to the practice of staying home on a Sunday and slowing down, spending time in silence and yoga practice to recharge for the week. I have a range of little rituals that bring peace to my heart and soul. Chanting while I mop the floor, blessing my food with love while I cook and of course, indulging my deep love of poetry and books. ... Self acceptance has been a journey of learning what is right for me, even if it looks very different to what my loved ones, friends and family are doing. It is a magical balm mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Often it isn’t until I feel the deep exhale of peace that I realise how much I was holding an inhale of stress. ... Pytoncides are chemicals that are released by trees that have been scientifically proven to boost the immune system and lower stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol. Getting out in nature is an amazing way to clear your head on the days it can feel a little more challenging to breathe. With the school holidays just around the corner, why not plan a little adventure to one of our beautiful local natural spaces and feel the magic of nature happen? 02.01.2022 In his book The miracle of MindfulnessThich Nhat Hahn advocates setting aside an entire day a week for the practice of mindfulness. During this day, every task is done slowly and with conscious attention. A meal is cooked slowly and each part of the process is as valued as the end result on the plate. Tidying your house becomes a meditative act and an opportunity for gratitude on all you have been blessed with. It is very difficult to maintain this level of conscious engag...ement with every moment! I find my mind is so easily distracted and craves the easy stimulation of music, books and media. Yet I know first hand the benefits and peace of persevering through the initial resistance to the joy beyond. This little passage from one of the Sufi Greats is a perfect meditation on the breath to accompany such an intention for the day- Praise to God for his bounty, Every breath we breathe in prolongs life. 01.01.2022 The most beautiful aspects of the human experience are best learnt with stillness and time spent inwards. Meditation was hard for me when I first started. I began my practice with five minute intervals and it was difficult to maintain patience even for that long. It was a source of frustration and irritation with the occasional glimpse of beauty and ease. Now my meditation practice is one of my favourite parts of the day. It is not always easy and it’s not always peaceful ...and yet I would skip brushing my teeth before I would skip meditating in the morning. Just for the record I never skip either Both are very important! You can start simply- Even a one minute practice has benefits for calming the mind. Set the timer on your phone for one minute and try to follow your breath Knowing when you’re breathing in, and knowing when you’re breathing out. It can be helpful to count the breath. Breathing in one. Breathing out one. Breathing in two. Breathing out two. Aim to make it to 10 breaths without losing the awareness of your breath. This is a very challenging practice! 01.01.2022 Playing acro yoga with the lovely Tammilee from Booty and the Beast fitness. I’ve missed having the opportunity to do partner based yoga because it is a beautiful opportunity to build trust, co-operation and friendship. I think there is a vast potential for utilising partner based exercise/Yoga to combat bullying in schools. Research demonstrates that punishing children for bullying is not effective. The key to reducing bullying in schools lies in helping disconnected child...ren develop deeper relationships with their peers, establishing the understanding of and capacity for empathy. Connection is key and fun,co-operative and engaging play is a fantastic way to build it. I can’t wait until times in the future I when we can incorporate more of this amazing and super fun style golf yoga/movement into our workshop programs. Until then... I’ll keep practicing with my friends

01.01.2022 On Finding Balance, Yogi style Recently I have been keenly learning about and applying the principles of Ayurveda to help resolve some persistent physical, emotional and mental imbalances in my system. Ayurveda is the sister science to Yoga and one that I have studied/ touched on as part of various yogic trainings. However it wasn’t until I started studying Samkhya philosophy and the Gunas that I really began to understand some of the fundamental principles. ... Samkhya philosophy teaches that there are three attributes to all physical energy/manifestation. The three attributes are Satva (light, pure, clarity, essence) Rajas (dynamic movement, action, passion, transformation) and Tamas (static, inertia, cohesion, matter) Keeping the Gunas in balance is one of the keys to healthy living and transcending our stuck patterns of behaviour. Understanding how the three primordial energies interacts can be a key to inviting balance in your life. Where are you feeling imbalanced? Is your body and mind running franticly? Likely your rajas is overactive. Balance it with some Yin yoga and meditation (The energy of Tamas- stable and inert) to bring back your Satva (light and clarity) Feeling stuck and heavy? Too much Tamas- try a Hatha/Vinyasa yoga or a Pilates class to get you moving (Rajas) to bring back your essence (Satva) Feeling great? Chances are that you are already in a Satvic state. Knowing that we move through the other gunas as part of a cycle is the key to non judgment when we fall out of flow- it’s all part of the dance of the gunas, keeping us in balance.
