25.01.2022 Terry Willis talks about Queensland Fruit Fly on Main FM. Have got your male monitoring traps ready? Are your fruit trees pruned to a manageable height? Have you thought about fruit fly netting?

24.01.2022 Simple message for our native bee population. Plant as many flowering plants as you can. This year we planted 300 Late-flowered Flax-lily (Dianella tarda) to help local Blue-banded bees.

22.01.2022 Thanks Jaara Elder, Uncle Rick Nelson for sharing this story about Leanganook.

17.01.2022 ‘Ten ways to improve the natural assets on a farm’ booklet Sustainable Farms is delighted to launch their new booklet, ‘Ten ways to improve the natural assets on a farm’. The booklet highlights ten discrete projects that farmers can undertake to improve the health of natural assets such as dams, shelterbelts or riparian areas on their properties. The booklet highlights how one small change on a farm could create new habitat for native animals and lead to increased stock p...roductivity. The publication is underpinned by 20 years of long-term research into biodiversity on farms. It also represents a knowledge collaboration that’s occurred over two decades between the farmers who are undertaking management practices, and the ANU ecologists supporting farmers’ observations with science. http://sustainablefarms.org.au/ten_ways

17.01.2022 Great news for Harcourt on the fruit fly front. Weed fruit trees are to be removed from a number of road reserves in the area. Big thanks to Mount Alexander Shire for taking seriously the potential threat of Queensland Fruit Fly to backyard fruit trees and commercial orchards in Harcourt Valley.

16.01.2022 Citizen scientists keep your eyes peeled for Bogong Moths.

11.01.2022 Remember the three Ps - prune, so trees are a nettable height, pick up fallen fruit, and protect with monitoring traps or incursion netting.

10.01.2022 Great turnout at our October working bee at the wetlands near the round about. These trees were planted with the help of Harourt Valley Primary School students last year. Most plants have done well so we are now putting larger guards on. Just a reminder - you don’t have to be a member to come along and help out at working bees. We are a friendly bunch and welcome new members.

09.01.2022 Pippin Court Tree Planting An ambitious project to beautify the creekside and surrounds of Pippin Court saw members turn out on a splendid Sunday morning in late July. Working bees are enjoyable at any time, but it was wonderful to see young and old busy planting and socialising under COVID-19 conditions. Families and neighbours worked together perhaps for the first time. Project organiser, Vanessa Chiang, said, ‘The project, funded by the North Central Catchment Authority, will continue over the coming year, to complete the planting to make a healthier creek. Before we began, we consulted with the developer. Once we had approval, we letter dropped the residents in Pippin Court to let them know the plan. We were pleased that some were able to attend this first working bee.’
