24.01.2022 The difference in seeing whales from a headland and whales from a boat! Join me in Port Stephens soon! Contact me for bookings.

24.01.2022 If you are ever in the bush and hear so many bird calls coming from just one spot and know that that couldn't possibly be right - here is the culprit!

23.01.2022 During the Covid lockdown earlier this year I designed 26 days of cool nature facts with the 'Do you see what I see' series. Lots of people responded and told me how much they enjoyed the series. Now my small business needs your help. I have not been able to operate my tours since March but the bills keep coming in. I am running my first tour for the summer season on Monday, 7th December 2020. It will be a Rock Pool Spotlight Tour designed for adults (more family ones to come... during January). It is just $10 per person and I am really hoping that you will support me, and have a great time as well! Bookings are essential. It will be held on the evening of Monday 7th December. Please phone 0414 414 291, or email: [email protected] Hope to hear from you!

22.01.2022 This Australian Giant Cuttlefish is being evicted from his home crevice by a couple of aggressive neighbours: a pair of White Ear damselfishes. He flashes them,... changes colour, makes himself look bigger, but in the end retreats. He’s one of the very few Giant Cuttlefish that have survived this year’s mating season, he’ll now have to find a new home. See more

22.01.2022 Bowerbirds create elaborate structures to attract potential mates and place a variety of bright objects they collect in and around a bower, spending many hours arranging the collection. They are interior design undergrads.

21.01.2022 Striking image of a recently burned tree, exposing its vascular tissue, the xylem and phloem. A tree’s vascular system carries water and minerals from the root...s up to the leaves, and photosynthesized food back down to the rest of the tree. Interesting fact: Trees have no muscles (or nervous system) so all of this movement is powered by turgor pressure, which is controlled by stomata in the leaves that open and close as needed. 14.01.2022 Did you know? A wombats pouch faces backwards. This is to prevent the pouch and the young wombat inside from being choked with dirt when mum is digging and clea...ning out the burrow. Wombats give birth to live, tiny and under-developed young, that have to crawl through their mothers fur to the pouch. The baby wombat stays in mums pouch for about 5 months. When the young wombat does get large enough to leave the pouch, it will still hide back in the pouch from danger or to nurse from mum. ***No, this wombat isn't giving birth - the joey is peeking out of mums pouch which faces backwards. Great photo by Strathewan Wildlife Shelter, Vic.

14.01.2022 The Ladybird Spider, one of Britains rarest spiders out of the 600 plus species in our country. In the Early 90's there was only 56 of these spiders left alive..., now they are making a slow and steady comeback!! If you see one, please do not kill it! They are totally harmless. If you are lucky enough to see one anywhere, please let me know guys!! See more

04.01.2022 Did you know that a swarm of Ladybugs is called a Loveliness, A Loveliness Of Ladybugs. With a name like that, no wonder Ladybird is believed to bring good luck, and when one spies one, is a reminder to count your blessings.

01.01.2022 Hello, WHALE DREAMERS! A whole new Festival is taking shape to celebrate the whales this year and YOU are needed to make the blueprint! Due to not knowing if... we will be able to gather physically for our 2020 Festival, the organisers - Colette, Nikki, Roberta and Jeannie - are asking the community to express their own individual celebration of the whales and share it with us on the Whale Dreamers Facebook page. Here’s how it works: From 8th May to 8th June submissions will be accepted on our Facebook page of your artworks, poems, stories and photographs with the theme ‘I love whales because ’ We are currently investigating the possibility of a live-streaming event on 5th July which will include selected items from the submissions we receive from you, along with music, guest speakers, etc. Further details of this event will be released soon. Guidelines: - No more than 6 photographs per submission - Stories must be kept as short as possible - By submitting you automatically give Whale Dreamers permission to publish your works on the Facebook page and also at the live-streaming event if selected. You will retain copyright and will be acknowledged as the contributor. - All submissions must be received by 8th June (World Oceans Day) - Works chosen for live-streaming on 5th July will be random, and no correspondence with contributors will be possible beforehand. We hope to hear from you! Please share this with your networks. Jeannie Lawson (Enquiries to: [email protected])
