25.01.2022 Tonight's project - a large, shallow dish. At 23cm diameter, this is the largest size bowl my lathe can handle. A few extra photos of the process. After cutting a rough circle out on the bandsaw, the piece gets mounted to the lathe. Initially the blank is rounded to make it a perfect circle, then the bottom half of the bowl is shaped. Finally a mortice is put on the bottom of the bowl to allow it to attach to a chuck. After flipping the bowl and putting it on the chuck, the process of hollowing the dish begins - a fairly long process which creates an absolute tonne of shavings and dust but all worth it for the final product. @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

10.01.2022 Harris Woodworking joins Pens for the Troops Started between a small group of woodturners, Pens for the Troops is a community based project to show our respect for troops serving overseas and at home. For the first time, Harris Woodworking is joining in to donate our time and resources to make 20 Slimline pens to be distributed to our troops as part of Remembrance Day in November this year. 02.01.2022 'Galaxy' Gold Fountain Pen Edit - the pen has been fixed and is absolutely perfect! Check out our latest post for more information This pen was a rollercoaster that I unfortunately fell of the end of. My first blank exploded in the latter stages of turning (last photo). Second blank turned beautifully and the finish is spectacular but unfortunately I misread the Atrax instructions and have been left with a 3mm gap between the cap and the pen. ... Live and learn!
